SUPERSTITIONS MAKE ME LAUGH

Team-mates have all sorts of ways to get fired up

IT'S been great to see all the new pre-match superstitions this season.

Rob 'The Body' Edwards likes to do his little balancing exercises with his shirt off in the changing room. I don't know who he's trying to impress but it seems tow work for him.

The manager likes to play Eye of the Tiger in the dressing-room just before we go out. If we win, he'll do similar things in training the week after.

Steve Kabba always likes to listen to his own music - maybe because no-one else would want to!

Some of the lads shout at each other to get themselves going, while there are others, like Shaun Barker, who just like to have a laugh and a joke.

Problem

I've tried all sorts of things. At Brentford, I used to eat a Mars bar two hours before kick-off (not recommended by Arsene Wenger).

I've also tried coming out of the tunnel last but that became a bit of a problem when two of my team-mates had the same superstition!

Nowadays, I put my right shin pad on first but that's about it.

My old strike partner at Brentford, Lloyd Owuso, would talk to himself when we were in the tunnel to get himself fired up, while Stephen Hunt was so full of energy that the boss, Steve Coppell, was always trying to calm him down.

Punched

At Hull, Stuart Elliott would pray just before we ran out, while Jason Price would be dancing around cracking jokes.

The tunnel can be a quite an intimidating place. One of my first games in League Two for Hull was away at Boston and one of their players punched himself on the head and screamed 'Come on!'.

Some opponents will hat a chat with you, especially if they're old team-mates, while others won't even look at you.

Now that we are forced to shake hands with the opposition before the game, some try to squeeze your hand really hard or eyeball you. It all seems a little sad to me, but if it helps get a result then who am I to argue?

Whatever we did, it worked yesterday because we managed to beat Barnsley. We created loads of chances and Steve Kabba scored a terrific goal with a 30-yarder.

It was important to beat a team who will probably be around us in the league come the end of the season! It also sets us up nicely for a tough week that sees us play Burnley and Birmingham away
