FABIO CAPELLO WOULD NEVER PUT UP WITH THIS

My training session ends in disaster after four-hour nightmare

I WONDER if Fabio Capello or Jose Mourinho has ever had to put on a coaching session with players who have already been training for nearly four hours?

That's exactly what I faced this week when I was doing the second assessment on my coaching course.

I was the second to last to perform my session by which time the youth team, who were our guinea pigs, were both completely knackered and fed up with being ordered around.

Up I stepped full of enthusiasm and explained that my session was on playing the ball out from the goalkeeper and defence. The response was muted to say the least.

We work with one team and use the other as the opposition. My session was going quite well until the 'opposition' completely lost interest. I think their left-back fainted through exhaustion!

My feedback from the assessor was that I should have motivated the opposition more. I pointed out that they had been training for nearly four hours and not even Red Bull injected into their veins would have jolted them.

Random

He said I should have told them to pretend it was the last 10 minutes of the FA Cup Final and they couldn't afford to concede a goal. I'm just not that good an actor!

Our defender Danny Coid is in his 10th year with Blackpool and part of his testimonial year included a fans and players quiz night on Monday.

Each player was given a table of supporters, which isn't too bad if they like you! I was on a very good table but we came nowhere near winning.

It's probably the most random quiz in the world, including questions like: How many carriages are there on the big wheel on the pier? How many bookies are there on Lytham Road? What is the 27th listed building in Blackpool?

The final section was 10 questions on Danny, but they must have been tough because he only got six right!

We finished the night by auctioning off some signed photos of the great man. To say the bidding was slow was an understatement. At one point Coidy made a bid himself!

Despite the ribbing we give Danny it's great he has stayed so loyal to the club. I think sometimes being at a club that long means you can get taken advantage of when it comes to picking the team and Coidy is often sub when he should be playing, because it's easier to drop him.
