Chambers set a personal best of 6.51sec over 60 metres at the trials in Sheffield on Saturday to match the fastest time in the world this year.
It confirms the 30-year-old as a firm favourite for gold in Turin early next month, where he also hopes to break the British record of 6.46 held by Jason Gardener. Chambers is banned from most meetings after his two-year ban for failing a drugs test in 2003.
He said: "I'm very pleased - it's an indication of what I can do when I'm allowed to run. Now I can just concentrate on trying to win the title. I had the flu and I'm only at about 70 per cent so there's a bit more to come."
Chambers' task was made easier when main rival Craig Pickering was disqualified for a false start in the semi-finals of the trials, which double as the UK Indoor Championships.
Tyrone Edgar and Simeon Williamson were second and third, and Pickering's only hope is that the selectors take pity on him.
