Arsene Wenger ready to make move for Manchester City defender
ARSENE WENGER will make a £7million raid for England defender Micah Richards.
And sources close to the Arsenal boss claim he is supremely confident of landing the unsettled Manchester City star.
Wenger has been a huge admirer of Richards since the 20-year-old burst on to the Premier League scene three years ago. And he had been sizing up a swoop before Richards signed a new five-year deal 12 months ago.
The idea of Richards going for as little as £7m would have been unthinkable then but a poor run of form has left City looking for experienced top-class defenders in the transfer window.
Wenger believes he can resurrect Richards' career - and his 2010 World Cup hopes with England - at a price that does not break the bank.

Micah should join the gunners, we want him, he likes the club, Arsenal are in the champions league, Man City are in a relegation battle = all good points for him to join.

These are some of the most ill-informed comments regarding a story I have have ever had the misfortune of reading - the vast majority of which do not make any grammatical sense at all. Richards is obviously a good player who is going through a very poor spell of form. Arsenal would do very well to get him, particularly for £7m.

He is quick, young, strong and agile...what's not to like?? Arsenal lack strength and resilience at the back and with Richards Wenger has the opportunity to craft a first class centre back, something he has been akin to over recent years....

I will rather AW add the 7 million pounds to meet up the asking price for Arshavin instead of wasting the money on a player dat lacks the kind of quality player Arsenal needs now . Except AW is not interested in the league title and a silverware for the season then he can go and waste money on Micah. We need a player with high level of skills and intelligence not just a player brawns and muscles. THINK WENGER!!!

They criticise Arsenal for not having much money to spend while they have been bailed out by Arab money. We are a club who have survived on the revenue that we have generated and should be proud of the fact. Used to think that Man City were the classy club of the two. Looks like I was wrong....

You don't need the money and we dont have it, so it comes down to the players desire or the clubs resolve. Citeh have a great chance of the Fa C.. No, The Carli.. No, the leag.. Arsenal do their business with class and sense and are still towards the top of the league, why should they be held to ransom and let the whole world know they'll pay silly money for average players? The Sheikhs don't even know who Richards is... just someone dropped by England and part of a defence who's conceded a shed load of goals - his value has depreciated.

Having said that Richards has potential and probably worth more than £7m but nowhere near £20m+. Still it's a week before the window closes and a million transfer stories will be made up before then, most likely similarily to this one, so get used to it..

Frank - you're mad mate! - Wenger is a great manager, but his record with defenders is awful! - He inherited the 'Arsenal back 4' and since then has only bought one truely great defender to the club in Sol Campbell who was the finished article anyway...
His record with 'nurturing' the following quality defenders will prove my point - Senderos, Upson, Luzhny, Stephanovs, Cygan, Hoyte etc etc
Ps - If Wenger is planning to play Richards at Centre Back then he's as mad as Frank! WE NEED SOME HEIGHT!!!! HANGERLAND PLEEEEASE!

7mil for that 'big and daft', is it any wonder you cant see Uniteds front row on the squad pictures for silverware, there gonna have to put em on a platform for 09/10 -Quadruple, World club and Charity Shield - meanwhile the worlds richest club and their once nearest rivals squabble over Micah Holyfields valuation.

I wouldnt worry about it too much if I was a city fan. Arsene Wengers form of late has been to dither and haggle over a couple of million. Ironic that he could have had Alonso or Barry for 17 million, dithered and haggled over the price, and lost out....and look at the season those guys are having? Now the club is haggling over Arsharvin for a similar figure and are probably going to lose out there too. Fergie would just go and get what he wants. Richards is worth more than 7 million. City wont sell for that price and Arsenal wont pay much more. So it just aint going to happen...much like Arsenals season really.

What all you Man City fans seem to forget is that Micah has on more than a dozen ocassions stated that the team that he loves and supports is Arsenal! Also all the money in the world won't buy you the title in the Premier League when you'll be fighting in the championship next season and all the oil money will be gone along with Robinho and whoever so called "star" you've bought

I don't know whether the rumours are true but one thing i know is that due to excess of cash man city have any player they currently have is available at basement prices, unless they are globally recongised (robinho only!!!). As a gooner i welcome the link to richards and i hope this move happens and inturn i wish all man city fans the best of luck in the future as we all know money always buys success ( blackburn 1 title and chelsea 2 titles) Good luck!!!!!

He's going nowhere. Man City's Right Back for the future. He was moved back to RB (where he always should have been) last game and his "form" suddenly re-materialized. He's worth 15 mill EZ (we just paid £17 m for Bellamy!), but he's City through and through and I reckon he'll stay.

Its called negotiations. You dont go into any negotiation showing all your pennies. You test the waters. Wenger knows he wont get him for that, but he wants to see their reaction, and from there he would have a decent idea as to how much more to put. If you go in offering 10Mil for example, Man City may hold out for more than if you offered 7Mil initially.

toure has been out of form slightly as well, but only one of them has been in a champions league record holding defence and won any trophies!
any of you that think richards is worth 20m plus are completely insane, somewhere between 7 and 12m may be about right and thats only on the generous assumptilon that he cancome somewhere close to fulfilling the hype.
then again that is coming from fans ofa club that pay 17m to sign a player 6 months early, value bellamy at 14m and bridge at 12 so maybe citys valuation would be somewhere near there!

Since i heard about Man City will sell him. I knew that somebody will link him with Arsenal. Wenger said that he dose not look for defenders at the moment plain an simple. Wenger is looking for AM (Arshavin at the moment) & then DM. Finally, £7m is too much for him at his current bad form.
