And sources close to the Arsenal boss claim he is supremely confident of landing the unsettled Manchester City star.
Wenger has been a huge admirer of Richards since the 20-year-old burst on to the Premier League scene three years ago. And he had been sizing up a swoop before Richards signed a new five-year deal 12 months ago.
The idea of Richards going for as little as £7m would have been unthinkable then but a poor run of form has left City looking for experienced top-class defenders in the transfer window.
Wenger believes he can resurrect Richards' career - and his 2010 World Cup hopes with England - at a price that does not break the bank.

20% of any fee that Man City get goes to Oldham . City bought him from their youth set-up.

Micah should join the gunners, we want him, he likes the club, Arsenal are in the champions league, Man City are in a relegation battle = all good points for him to join.
Didnt Kaka also mention he would like to Join Arsenal, maybe we should bid for him as well?

Hahaha 17m plus Toure.......you moron !!!
By ????.. Posted January 26 2009 at 1:38 PM.
These are some of the most ill-informed comments regarding a story I have have ever had the misfortune of reading - the vast majority of which do not make any grammatical sense at all. Richards is obviously a good player who is going through a very poor spell of form. Arsenal would do very well to get him, particularly for £7m.
By Dwain Trevin.. Posted January 26 2009 at 3:24 AM.
Dream on city funs 10-12m or 17m plus Toure for Richards you wish!!!!
would rather have Michael Johnson he is more promising than having another Pascal Cygan

Dream on city fans 10-12m, 17mplus Toure!!! Hez not even worth more than 5m
wouldn't mind Michael Johnson for 7m he is more promising than another Ciygan
By watie.. Posted January 26 2009 at 12:03 AM.
He is quick, young, strong and agile...what's not to like?? Arsenal lack strength and resilience at the back and with Richards Wenger has the opportunity to craft a first class centre back, something he has been akin to over recent years....

Micah can be natured into one of the England's best, if only he can come to Wenger. Very strong and fast defender, and the best is, he is still young and can learn. Let him come to the teacher of soccer.
By Gunnerabroad.. Posted January 25 2009 at 6:02 PM.
yes buy him aswell as arshavin, those 2 wud be gr8 signings for arsenal
By thedon.. Posted January 25 2009 at 5:26 PM.
I will rather AW add the 7 million pounds to meet up the asking price for Arshavin instead of wasting the money on a player dat lacks the kind of quality player Arsenal needs now . Except AW is not interested in the league title and a silverware for the season then he can go and waste money on Micah. We need a player with high level of skills and intelligence not just a player brawns and muscles. THINK WENGER!!!

Overrated, average player. You could spend 7mil more wisely overseas. As for Man City fans, how quickly they have become arrogant (like the London blues). They criticise Arsenal for not having much money to spend while they have been bailed out by Arab money. We are a club who have survived on the revenue that we have generated and should be proud of the fact. Used to think that Man City were the classy club of the two. Looks like I was wrong....

mr arsen at least 2-3 more experienced players for the gunners..

All these Blackb... No Chels... No Man City fans have to realise is that they are nothing but cash. You don't need the money and we dont have it, so it comes down to the players desire or the clubs resolve. Citeh have a great chance of the Fa C.. No, The Carli.. No, the leag.. No. Just a small club with money. So run along and join the also rans that have had money and won a trophy or 2 and then disappeared into the realms of hiring Sam Allardyce.

Luke, the name of the poster is at the end of the comment - check where the dotted line is before posting next time..
Arsenal do their business with class and sense and are still towards the top of the league, why should they be held to ransom and let the whole world know they'll pay silly money for average players? The Sheikhs don't even know who Richards is... just someone dropped by England and part of a defence who's conceded a shed load of goals - his value has depreciated.
By Mustard.. Posted January 25 2009 at 10:42 AM.
We should copy Spuds and spend untold money on big names like Bentley, Bent etc. It's clearly a much better policy, just look at the respective league positions. Come on Arsene get your cheque book out!
By Clarky.. Posted January 25 2009 at 10:48 AM.
Having said that Richards has potential and probably worth more than £7m but nowhere near £20m+. Still it's a week before the window closes and a million transfer stories will be made up before then, most likely similarily to this one, so get used to it..
By Mustard.. Posted January 25 2009 at 10:51 AM.
Frank - you're mad mate! - Wenger is a great manager, but his record with defenders is awful! - He inherited the 'Arsenal back 4' and since then has only bought one truely great defender to the club in Sol Campbell who was the finished article anyway...
His record with 'nurturing' the following quality defenders will prove my point - Senderos, Upson, Luzhny, Stephanovs, Cygan, Hoyte etc etc
Ps - If Wenger is planning to play Richards at Centre Back then he's as mad as Frank! WE NEED SOME HEIGHT!!!! HANGERLAND PLEEEEASE!
By richthegooner.. Posted January 25 2009 at 10:10 AM.
7mil for that 'big and daft', is it any wonder you cant see Uniteds front row on the squad pictures for silverware, there gonna have to put em on a platform for 09/10 -Quadruple, World club and Charity Shield - meanwhile the worlds richest club and their once nearest rivals squabble over Micah Holyfields valuation.
P.S Can anyone recommend a silver polish product, we're using buckets of the stuff !!
By Irwell2Sicily.. Posted January 25 2009 at 9:16 AM.
I wouldnt worry about it too much if I was a city fan. Arsene Wengers form of late has been to dither and haggle over a couple of million. Ironic that he could have had Alonso or Barry for 17 million, dithered and haggled over the price, and lost out....and look at the season those guys are having? Now the club is haggling over Arsharvin for a similar figure and are probably going to lose out there too. Fergie would just go and get what he wants. Richards is worth more than 7 million. City wont sell for that price and Arsenal wont pay much more. So it just aint going to happen...much like Arsenals season really.
By Gunnerberealistic.. Posted January 25 2009 at 8:49 AM.
What all you Man City fans seem to forget is that Micah has on more than a dozen ocassions stated that the team that he loves and supports is Arsenal! Also all the money in the world won't buy you the title in the Premier League when you'll be fighting in the championship next season and all the oil money will be gone along with Robinho and whoever so called "star" you've bought
By John.. Posted January 25 2009 at 9:08 AM.
mark hughes should go 2 plattfields park and he would see lads playing football with more effort than most of citys so called big shots and keep the only good eye he has open and watch out 4 a future superstar DANNIEL C.
By patsy.. Posted January 25 2009 at 9:09 AM.
Let us the statement is true.I always see micah in the mould of sol cambel, i think if truely arsene want him, he should grab the opportunity and he will bring a lot of sanity in the central defence. Weii, i hope it is true, because anything can happen if it come to transfer issue in arsenal
By Dattijo Aliyu.. Posted January 25 2009 at 7:26 AM.
i think arsenal want the service of micah. ok then lets get real now . micah is worth more than that, thats my opinion.
By senator.. Posted January 25 2009 at 7:33 AM.
MICAH, should utilize this golden chance awarded to him!!! B'se most of the successful defenders in England have passed through Arsene Wenge's hands, do play for their national teams. I believe he's good manager for defenders, so he should think about the future..
By Frank.. Posted January 25 2009 at 6:30 AM.
gooners dream on, chelsea tried to sign him and bid a hell of a lot more than you paupers could ever bid and offered the player more money than any arsenil player would ever get paid. he will get pots of money and trophies at man city, he will win nothing and get paid peanuts with a team of paupers who sell their best stars and make derisory bids for other teams tops stars......arshavin and richards to name but a few !
By sad arsenil.. Posted January 25 2009 at 6:29 AM.

Mustard how is he City through and through when he supports Arsenal..lol
By Luke.. Posted January 25 2009 at 2:54 AM.
Richards, finally a possible replacement for adams!!!
I don't know whether the rumours are true but one thing i know is that due to excess of cash man city have any player they currently have is available at basement prices, unless they are globally recongised (robinho only!!!). As a gooner i welcome the link to richards and i hope this move happens and inturn i wish all man city fans the best of luck in the future as we all know money always buys success ( blackburn 1 title and chelsea 2 titles) Good luck!!!!!
Gooner 4 forever
By heane the gooner.. Posted January 25 2009 at 2:46 AM.
He's an Arsenal fan and has already gone on record as saying he would like to play for Arsenal one day. Hughes is looking for another defender too
By Mustard.. Posted January 25 2009 at 2:25 AM.
He's going nowhere. Man City's Right Back for the future. He was moved back to RB (where he always should have been) last game and his "form" suddenly re-materialized. He's worth 15 mill EZ (we just paid £17 m for Bellamy!), but he's City through and through and I reckon he'll stay.
By Micah Donaghy.. Posted January 25 2009 at 1:51 AM.
im a redlad i hope wenger gets him but dont offer 7mill he isnt worth that offer 3 hundred thousand payable after he plays 1000 games for arsenal and if city dont agree tell them to keep him
By patsy.. Posted January 25 2009 at 1:13 AM.
HAHA, kolo+a few mil? are u serious!? ur as inflated at the english transfer market! just because the guy is english doesn't mean he's worth more than a seasoned, mettle tested and medals won veteran of defense. but hey, maybe we can give them senderos + 10 mil. and see if they like that!? I rate Micah...think he is an outstanding talent and will be utilized greately in the future. C'mon city, let him go to the Emirates. Arsene will make him into a class defender the premiership and ENGLAND will come to admire and respect. C'mon Micah, to London you go now.
By str8goon.. Posted January 25 2009 at 1:15 AM.
think he will leave the blue moon ,as he more like a boxer now than a footlballer my 6 year old could knock the top heavy mupett off the ball and all for about 7 million squid . makes me laugh, keep the red machine rolling fergie
By steve.. Posted January 25 2009 at 1:14 AM.
Funny to see all the snide comments from all the City fans.
And what happens to Richards once a few £30-40m replacements have been brought in? You'll all be calling for him to be shipped out then as cheap rubbish...
By John.. Posted January 25 2009 at 12:51 AM.
Its called negotiations. You dont go into any negotiation showing all your pennies. You test the waters. Wenger knows he wont get him for that, but he wants to see their reaction, and from there he would have a decent idea as to how much more to put. If you go in offering 10Mil for example, Man City may hold out for more than if you offered 7Mil initially.
By Phil.. Posted January 25 2009 at 12:47 AM.
toure and a couple of million HAAHAHAHAHA
toure has been out of form slightly as well, but only one of them has been in a champions league record holding defence and won any trophies!
any of you that think richards is worth 20m plus are completely insane, somewhere between 7 and 12m may be about right and thats only on the generous assumptilon that he cancome somewhere close to fulfilling the hype.
then again that is coming from fans ofa club that pay 17m to sign a player 6 months early, value bellamy at 14m and bridge at 12 so maybe citys valuation would be somewhere near there!
By dan.. Posted January 25 2009 at 12:47 AM.
Since i heard about Man City will sell him. I knew that somebody will link him with Arsenal. Wenger said that he dose not look for defenders at the moment plain an simple. Wenger is looking for AM (Arshavin at the moment) & then DM. Finally, £7m is too much for him at his current bad form.
By Dan.. Posted January 25 2009 at 12:00 AM.
Not a chance he's the best english right back out there he's just been played out of position through neccessity micah's staying put.
By Robinhosthumb!.. Posted January 24 2009 at 11:43 PM.
cant believe wenger has the cheek to bid only 7m for richards wats that for his right ******* i know he had a bad season but too bid that for him its like someone offer him 15m for fabagas he would laugh at the bid i think wenger should bid at least 10m-12m or give city toure and a couple of million at least
By kev roche.. Posted January 24 2009 at 11:14 PM.
£7M I don't think so... maybe £17M & Toure - dream on Arsene
By Mr Bluesky.. Posted January 24 2009 at 11:19 PM.
Just 20 million short then!! Don't think micah would fancy having his felt at any price arsene
