KATE SUFFERS INJURY AGONY

My wife bears the brunt of me being out for two months

I'VE been waited on hand and foot this week by my wife, Kate, and she's going to have to get used to it - I'm injured and will be out for at least two months.

I injured the medial ligament in my right knee when someone landed on top of me during our 2-1 defeat against Coventry last week.

I should have stayed down and waited for the stretcher but all I could hear was my dad's voice ringing in my ears: 'Try to run it off, son.' That's what I did but I then had to suffer the derision of the Coventry fans as I hobbled from one side of the pitch to the other before coming off.

Being injured can be very lonely. I was in agony in the changing room, with my knee in ice, but was still trying to guess what the cheers and groans from the crowd meant. In my head I had it down as a 3-2 win for us - I wasn't far off as we had two goals disallowed.

I went to training Monday on crutches. I have never had an injury on my right knee so its weird using the crutches the other way. I keep forgetting which leg to hobble on!

The most concerned person was my boot boy Steve, who kept asking how long I would be out and whether I would play again this season.

Nice of him to be concerned, I thought...until he said: "Will I still get paid even though you aren't using your boots? Cause I got bills to pay."

Cheeky sod, but it looks like he could be polishing my crutches for a bit.

Hopefully, I'll be back playing before the end of the season but, until then, I'll be relying very heavily on Kate. It's her that deserves the sympathy, not me.
