Sport of the World has learned that City offered less than £5m for the Toon's Republic of Ireland keeper, 32.
The mega-rich Eastlands club are prepared to offer Given around £60,000 a week but have stopped short of offering him a five-year deal like the one he has at St James' Park. City are now preparing a move for Chelsea No 2 Cudicini, who would be a cheaper alternative than Given or Juventus' Gianluigi Buffon.
City midfielder Michael Johnson or defender Nedum Onuoha could be used in a part-exchange deal for Given.
Newcastle boss Joe Kinnear knows he has to sell in order to strengthen and is prepared to let Jose Enrique leave.
Atletico Madrid have offered striker Luis Garcia in a straight swap for the Spanish defender.

Given is not the 1st to say he wants to leave Newcastle after what has gone on with Ashley and Keegen etc.and who can blame them. Owen will go in the summer, no doubt followed by any others who are good enough for the Premership!. Given has been loyal to Newcastle for 11 years and if he thinks that he can win something with another team before he has to pack the game in why shouldnt he try for a move.If Man City want to pay £10 million for him at his age Newcastle should take the money and spend it on outfield players which they need. They have a replacement goalkeeper in Harper. Whos to say Man City wont win anything in the next few years, look what happened to Chelsea after they got money.

If Given wants to go and City are prepared to pay 10 million for him Newcastle should take the money and spend it on outfield players which they need, they have a replacement keeper in Harper already.
Given isnt the 1st to say he wants to leave, Owen will go in the summer and no doubt others will follow.Whos to say Man City wont win anything in the next few years, Chelsea only started winning things when they got an influx of money and City have only just started spending it.

Mick, give us proof when city have been dirty during play? zabaleta is one but other than that it is city who have been hard done, glory hunting? we have no glory to hunt, if you look at the city crowds all there is there are proper mancs, not cockeys or americans like salford utd, money is what matters in footy nowadays and it wont be city who will cause the trouble it will be the greedy clubs demanding more more more (eg valencia is NOT worth 15 mil, Santa is NOT worth 20 mil and Arshavin Is Certainly not worth 24 mil)

mick.. how are city fans glory hunters? i think uve got the rong side of manchester there!

So, Citeh want to sign Shay on the cheap, the stingy gets. I would not blame Shay for going, as he has been so loyal to the Toon and good luck to him, but why would he sign for fellow strugglers Citeh (Manchester mackems).
With all your money, you'll still be the second best team in Manchester. Come on Citeh & Howay The Lads. Happy New Year guys.

if shay thinks he can better him self at city then he should go. newcastle have been very loyal to him, the fans adore him and he is well paid. Lets build a team around footballers who want to play for their club and not chase glory or salaries. If attitudes were right then newcastle would have a great team as on paper they have potential. unfortunatly egoes and salary chasing is affecting glory.

so they wont pay 11 million for given and think they will get cudicini, who just signed a new deal fact , for less than 12 lmao, what a bunch of plastic glory hunting idiots running that club, they wont win anything because they dont have a jose or fergie or a rafa or a wenger at the helm, they have a man with no tactical experiance other than to tell his players to kick seven shades out the opposistion !

Shay is a good keeper, but he's not worth 11m, any player Man City are interested is going to bump the value up, because of their billons, let him go and give Harper his long awaited chance.

Why on earth are City looking for a new keeper when they already have Joe Hart??
By Andy.. Posted January 11 2009 at 10:35 AM.
Darren Robson you must be nuts! How can you build a team around a goalkeeper, who is 32 for that matter. I take it you must be a Newcastle supporter talking from the heart not using your noodle!
By Alex.. Posted January 11 2009 at 10:22 AM.
shay is worth a great deal of money when he has saved the toon time and time again from going down he shouls be given the capatains arm band and a team should be built around him
