TOUGH START FOR NEW REGIME

We looked great against Wolves - and rubbish against Torquay

IT'S hard to explain our form since Christmas - two goals and a draw against League-leading Wolves, followed by a 1-0 FA Cup defeat by non-League Torquay.

Our new management duo Tony Parkes and Steve Thompson have started well. The more training sessions we have, the more we see changes from the previous regime, none more so than the set-pieces which got us both goals against Wolves.

But our squad has been decimated by the opening of the transfer window. Just over a week ago, we had a big squad and by Thursday we needed the kids in to make up the numbers. That's because we lost eight players, who'd been here on loan and have now gone back to their clubs.

Adding to the team will be the first major test for Thommo and Tony. Finding good players on a shoestring budget was probably Simon Grayson's biggest strength.

I had my usual crazy New Year's Eve again last week.

I sat at home and watched TV, desperately trying to stay awake till midnight, while kept ringing me from the pub revelling in the celebrations.

You hear about players getting sent off before Christmas so they are suspended for the festive games and so get some time off but I can't say that's happened to anyone I know. Most footballers are too thick to work out when their suspension would start.
