The song 'Womanizer' is digitally produced with a lot of sound effects, if she were to have sang the song live, it would have sounded awful. She would have received WORSE press attention for that.

Simon should ask for a refund, you dont give blank cheques for a performance like that. After all the hype it was a amature performance compared to people really singing like Ruth who got voted off (wrongly), and Alexandra. Britney would have done well to watch those two perform and sing live.

I thought Britney looked great.Of course she mimed, she had to, you couldnt sing live to a song like that, she would be way to out of breath for one! And the show is about putting on a performance which she did, she is a fab performer.Xfactor isnt just about the singing if u cant dance u have no chance.The song needs a dance routine like that.It would look rediculous if she was stood on the spot with a microphone.It was great, fun and entertaining. I'd Dont get me wrong i cant stand xfacor but watched it just to see Britneys performance.

Can I say 1 thing to all you stupid idiots that are complaining that she didn't do a masterclass.
The reason she didn't do it was not that she was stuck up it was because she was in America Monday/Tuesday in Germany Wednesday/Thursday then France Friday and she only arrived in the UK in the early hours of Saturday and left the UK in the early hours of Sunday - Please someone tell me when she was meant to do the masterclass!!!
Time travel would be a great thing!

This was the first time this year i watched X Factor as i gave up a few years ago but i thought i'd watch it to see how Britney Spears was, couldnt believe how bad she actually was, it was cringe worthy, and as its the first time i have seen this show i couldnt believe how amazing the girls voice was who got voted out! She was jaw droppingly amazing, she oozed talent and her voice was so amazing, to bill Britney as the star of that show is an absolute joke.

It was hideous...the dance routine wasn't even that challenging so definitely no reason to mime!! She seems to be so "out of it" these days and the whole routine looks so stiff and awkward!

It's a refreshing site to see Britney back in full-flow again after her own personal ordeal over the past 3-4 years.

However, her 'performance' was just that. There was clearly no singing from a so-called singer superstar and if anyone can dis-prove that theory I'd be happy to hear it. Through all of that dancing, I'd be surprised if she could breathe properly, let alone sing without a single mistake made in pitch, tone etc.

Marcel Marceau could have sang better than Britney last night.

well its quite obvious what people thought of her disgraceful performance from the comments left.

I really really wanted her to do great, and when she came out miming i was screaming at the tv in disbelief. All the contestants have no problem doing a great performance 'not miming'. No comments were made about the contestants as she didint even watch them b4 hand- with all the money paid to get her there, thats what she did! DISGRACEFUL

I thought Mariah was up her own arse and wanted all the red carpet treatment, Britney has set new standards!! At least Mariah Knew the contestants and do the masterclass.

Yes she mimed, that is fine, she always does, but before she had the excuse of being dancing affects . Last night she didn't dance, the performance was as bad as the VMAs no so apparent because of the routine, and here she only walk around the stage, too slow for the music. When she was behind the judges I though she was having a fit. And fine, she didn't do a master class to the contestants one her vocals to her songs have no secrets, so no point, the she flew on the morning had to change the routine and for her that performance was more important that for the contestants, not to watch the contestants fine if she had said she was getting ready but out of despise, c'mon Brit, who do you thing you are?All of them perform better than her. And banned them from the stage? even the judges? Mariah Carey, Take that, Celine Dion they were all interviewed. So far she is a drunk with the biggest Cinderella complex in history and has a lot to prove.

What a total waste of time after the big build up all during the programme i was made to feel the performance of the year was on the way .I could have understood if it was someone who was an icon , but brittney spears come on. I felt sorry for the contestants who werent exactly spoiled for choice with brittney hits. But what I found insulting was she didnt even seem to have a clue about the contestants neither had she bothered to watch their performances. Ruth and alexandra made her look like one of the bad auditions from the begining of the series. James Cordon said he could have listened to the cd if he knew she was gonna mime he didnt hold back at last someone who wasnt afraid to tell it like it really was ,even the other contestants clapped him. Brittney is no class act just still trailer trash.

Absolute farce ... Yet again it shows peoples faith in trailertrash. So what if she went mental, lost her kids then came back.. has she come back.. No? - No really. Miming through your most recent release shows that she isnt that talented and hopes you poor idiots that buy her singles wont notice.
With the sheer talent on offer such as Alexandra on the show. She doesnt deserve the limelight, either for her bad mindless pop music or her laughable results at being a mother.

1) Britney probably wouldn't have anything to offer in a masterclass. She doesn't appear to know what she's doing as a rule.
2) The thing that ****** me off wasn't the miming, but the fact that she didn't have a clue what was going on there, she was completely self-obsessed and didn't have the decency to acknowledge the contestants properly. Did she even know they were doing her songs? Ugh.

she flew in that day
she had performed in germany on thursday and france on friday. her performances there were much better because the stage was bigger nd they had a big ball tht she got on top of. because the x factor stage isnt that big she obviously had to change the routine within hours....
as for the miming there are people saying she did and some saying she didnt, mariah did nd i dnt see people moaning... i still thought the performance was one step closer to old britney im certain to buy her album and see her tour...
as for not watching the contestants, if i was her i wouldnt care less id rather think about nerves and the way the u.k constantly cristises her.
i thought she gave the best guest performance there has been.

I thought the contestants were much better. If I wanted to watch dancing I would be watching BBC one. I know she has gone through a great deal but why invite someone onto a show who doesn't want to be there clearly! I felt uncomfortable watching the mime- watch it back and you will see her fumbling through her words!!! They have good speakers now days. I just didn't understand the hype to someone who went through troubles last year coming back and then dancing on a stage and not giving the contestants any advice or the chance to meet her due to her tight schedule. I am not sure how convinced the UK will be with her half hearted performance.

Yes she mimed... but who doesn't nowadays. Her singing is reasonably good but not good enough to sound exactly like the album version. No-one sounds like their album versions! Plus her vocals have quite a lot of effects and cutting up to create the "cool" sound on her last couple of albums (listen to the tracks again to understand my point).

And when they mime they usually do sing... they have to move their lips in time with the backing track and it does look false if no sound is coming out your mouth.

Not a disaster show at all... but if she's trying to conquer the world again... should she not be singing live???

I have always been a Britney fan, but I feel let-down after her "live performance" last night. I still don't think she's ready to be back and she seemed very nervous when Dermot O'Leary spoke with her at the end. Dear Con of Cons,
probably she was singing as well as "dancing", but the song we all heard at home was recorded at it was quite easy to spot since she wasn't miming on time.
I love Britney and I'm glad she's trying to move on, but honestly I was expecting more.
She had ONE, only one song to sing and dance, which kind of performer is somebody who doesn't even manage to sing and dance at the same time for three minutes?
I would be more understanding if she actually danced, but she just walked up and down, she didn't look natural at all!
And it would also have been nice if she had watched the show or at least been informed what the show was about. She really did look like a spoiled child, but after all the shit newpapers threw against her in the past year I think she deserved a bit of undeserved admiration.

Other singers whose songs have been covered have talked to the performers and taken a bigger part in the show. It seems that Britney mimed and showed no real interest in the whole event.

It is outrageous that there are people out there who actually think miming is perfectly acceptable.

We demand honesty from our public officials and politicians, so why do we not demand it from our stars and entertainers? Just look at GMTV. They will be grilling a politician about his or her lack of honesty one minute, then they will cut to an act blatantly miming their way through a performance.

James Corden has gone up in my estimation for his remarks on Britney's miming on the Xtra Factor. Britney fans might by OK with her miming, but the viewing public should not be treated to such deception.

The producers of the X Factor should watch out. This shameful performance follows on from Same Difference's blatant miming last week. If this practice continues, viewers will desert the show in droves. It is not fair to the contestants who work hard all week to put in great authentic performances.

What an anti-climax!!!! I cant say that I'm a massive Britney fan but after all the bad press she's had in recent years, I believed she deserved her chance to come back and blow everyone away....she didn't do herself any favours. She is a singer, so if she belives that she wanted to concentrate on the dance routine she was very wrong. She should have been more gracious towards the contestants, who were fabulous, by giving her some one-to-one time just like every other star who has appeared before her. If Britney needs assistance in her recovery, she should start by putting two feet firmly on the ground!!!

Britney was rubbish! The whole routine was pants. It's scary to think that she mimed so that she could concentrate on her dancing. What dancing? She walked back and forwards on the stage and threw her hair about. That's not dancing! Prancing maybe. Anyway it was a shambles and if Britney thinks she did a good performance, she needs to back to therapy. What a disgrace. X Factor judges should be ashamed.

IT BRITNEY BITCH! wot u gonna do? she cant avoid the spot light, shes tried. She's puttin on the show that everyone wants to see, and i doubt she is happy, givin in to what WE want. But she smiled, she looked great, and did what she does best, PUT ON A SHOW. She is the princess of pop, she is stunning, she didnt look stupid (my fear!!) and im proud that she has managed to get this far. This is all part of the plan to be old Brit again, and old Brit had her kids!! Best of luck to her. My opinion is clearly that i was 110% impressed. She is THE entertainer and she entertained me, alot more than any of the xfactor contestants, no one does it like Britney!!

Miming was just wrong.

But she mimed to focus on her dance routine? Come on, the dance routine was insipid, limp and performed with no energy.

omg,britney was crap,dance routine,what routine,she was really awful but the contestants knocked her into fits.She no longer has that spark and i remember the days when her dance routines used to be one of the best performances,not no more.

What annoyed me was her outfit I'm sorry but who in their right mind thought that was a good look. Don't care about the lip-synching it was Britney she's been doing that since the start of her career. Personally if I'd been britney i'd have watched the performances just for sheer curiosity as they are her songs.

I'm sorry, I'm not expert, but anyone could see she was miming!! It was awful. I really wanted her to do well but her costume and performance really didn't do her any favours!
She could have taken an interest in the show and other contestants too, but obviously didn't have a clue and was only on it for her own benefit. Very poor!

Terrible .. no wonder her minders didn't let her watch the show from her dressing room she would of been in meltdown realising the contestants were actually better than her and could go out there and sing there hearts out live in front of millions. Obviously she isn't ready to go on stage and be able to compete with the likes of the contestants on X factor as they can put on a show singing and dancing in the matter of months ..

Thats the problem with a lot of these over hyped stars they don't deliver but people get fed all the hype and excuse her. I think its disgusting the way pop acts cheat the public and mime and then still get the applause. Even Girls aloud sang live, badly but they still sang live. Using the excuse that dancing would ruin her singing performance is weak. I have seen Will young perform in concert recently, singing live as he always does and he was bouncing all over the stage and not once did he drop a note. The woman is pathetic and the show was just a hyped up bit of nonsense to boost her and Cowells ego's

Diabolical performance. And why wear a microphone if your'e going to mime? Did she honestly think she could fool us into thinking she was singing live? She's the one who should've been voted off the show, not Ruth. Very disappointing.

I thought Britney was terrible. We were planning to get tickets for her concerts in London but no way am I now. It was really awful. The contestants took some knocks last night having to sing her songs and she comes out and gives that performance. If I was Simon, I'd be looking for my fee I paid after that. Her performance was one word- CRAP!!
