The lads want to follow in the footie-steps of NEW ORDER, the LIGHTNING SEEDS and, er, the SPICE GIRLS.
They're in talks about doing the official song for our 2010 World Cup campaign and I reckon Gary, JASON ORANGE, HOWARD DONALD and MARK OWEN are a great choice to ring out in South African stadiums next year when ROONEY and co take on the world.
My TT spy told me: "Gary's really excited about it. He wants to make it a real belter that'll get the England fans on their feet."
The band are still to put pen to paper on the deal, but an insider told me: "The Football Association have had approaches from lots of acts. But Take That are the obvious choice."
Sadly, the last couple of official England songs have been awful. ANT & DEC's We're On The Ball for the 2002 tournament in Japan and South Korea was dismal. But not as bad as the Spice Girls, who, along with OCEAN COLOUR SCENE, ECHO AND THE BUNNYMEN and SPACE, were responsible for 1998's (How Does It Feel To Be) On Top of the World.
So give it your best shot, Gary.

Listen to Come on Sing for England, it is simple, catchy and memorable, Take That should Take That and record it properly.
