Will Verne win?

Three weeks already, and tonight's the final.

Verne's still the favourite, and has been since the start. There's a touch of Pete Bennett from BB7 about this. Pete was the favourite even before he went in, stayed that way for thirteen mind-numbing weeks, and won easily.

One had Tourette's and the other is 2ft 8 inches tall. But there is more to both of them than that. Yet for every person voting for Verne because he's cute, and funny, and patient, and doesn't complain about his condition, there's another voting for someone else because they don't think that those are good enough reasons. If Verne weren't a dwarf, would he be in with a chance? Would he even have been chosen?

What about the others? Terry's settled in pretty well and I can see why he's second favourite. He's the nice, knowledgable, good-humoured bloke. But has he been challenged? In a way, he's had it too easy. He took against Ulrika pretty quickly, the rest of the guys followed suit, and he's had an easy ride. I enjoyed his nominations, and how he hasn't taken it all too seriously. But is that enough?

The same goes for Coolio. He's entertained, and behaved like the Big I Am, and been at the heart of the lot of the drama. But the one thing we ought to remember about him is that he said, many times, that it was his intention to win this game by driving the rest of them out. Let's take him at his word. Mutya walked out. Let's make the connection: Coolio drove Mutya out.

A guy like that doesn't deserve to win.

What about Ben? He's a nice chap. For a celeb, he's pretty unassuming ( but then, he's got a lot to be unassuming about ). But he is a bit wet, isn't he? I'm sure we all wanted him, just once, to lose it. Just once. If he'd done that, he might have won. If this were the longer thirteen week series he might have done a lot better. But in three weeks has he really done enough?

Finally: Ulrika. She's the last surviving woman. She is high-handed. She scowls a lot. She says a lot of sarcastic things that could hurt and then insists "It was only a joke" a little too often. She really does think she's better than some of the others.

Maybe she is. I dare say if I ended up in BB, I'd spend a lot of time rolling my eyes at the inane conversation, the childish attention-seeking, and the generalised crassness of the whole thing. But then that would be a reason for voting me off. This is an entertainment show, and Ulrika's being paid to be there.

There's still a case for her. She's taken a lot of sniping from the guys, has been up for eviction every single time, and tried to hold her head up high, in spite of the fact that she'd really rather be back home with the kids.

There have been other, less deserving winners or BB than Ulrika.

So, who'll do it? If I had to stick my neck out I'd say Terry to take it by a nose. BB likes a surprise ending, after all. Not that it really matters anyway, as there isn't even a prize. But one thing I think we can all be sure of: it'll be a lot closer than the bookies are having it.

Tommy coming sixth with almost ten percent suggests a very even spread. So, I reckon whoever comes fifth will get about 15%, and whoever comes first will get about 25%. In a five horse race that really is very close.
