HELMUT: Susan prefers him to TV Piers

SUSAN has a secret love, the News of the World can reveal.

She became besotted by grey-haired widower Helmut Glaser after meeting him at a prayer group.

And she is so infatuated she would like to spend the rest of her life with him.

But sadly for the Hairy Angel, Helmut has REJECTED her advances.

Helmut, 66, is 18 years older than doting Susan-who is also smitten with TV judge Piers Morgan. Helmut told us: "She had a crush on me last year. We met two years ago at a church group. She's lovely but I'm just too old for her. "Susan expressed her feelings towards me but I had to let her down gently and remind her that I was old enough to be her father. I'll be 67 on my next birthday.

"Susan understood and called me up afterwards and apologised. It was fine and we had a laugh about it. I lost my wife in 1988 and I'm too old to get involved with anyone."

Lovely

But that didn't stop Susan asking Helmut, like her a devout Catholic: "If I make any money from singing, will you come to Rome with me?"

Helmut, who was born in Germany, added: "I'd love to go to Rome but I'm not sure I'd go with just Susan in case she got the wrong idea and thinks I'm keen on her. I should stress that she is a lovely woman and I am so proud of what she has done."

Helmut, who lives in West Lothian's East Calder a short distance from Susan's Blackburn home, spoke warmly about the woman he considers "a very good friend" and revealed he is worried about the strain of her stardom.

He went on: "There's a lot at stake for Simon Cowell. But Susan's mental health is more important." Susan is now faced with a future of incredible fame and fortune, but Helmut is convinced she will remain the same person.

He said: "Money won't change her. She will give it away, that's the real problem. She will give her last penny away and she's got to be protected from doing that.

"She is a wonderful person. If anyone deserves a little success it's Susan."

Helmut admits he has witnessed Susan's temper, which famously boiled over in her altercation with fans this week.

He said: "I've been with her when she's been frustrated. Usually it's when she's been cooped up in the house for too long and she has to go for a walk.

"That's what will have happened this week.

"The best thing you can do is put her back in her own surroundings with her cat and give her time to come back to normal.

"Just let her go home for a breather for a few days and say, 'As soon as you're ready to make the album just pick up the phone and we will do it.' "

I'm not impressed with Helmut. Get over yourself Helmut. Please! Gossiping about Susan behind her back to the whole world,not much of a friend. Its good for Susan that you turned her down, I'm glad for her that she escaped spending the rest of her life being your nurse. Yeah Susan! You don't need Helmut . Susan Boyle is a rare treasure that should be cherished and nurtured. Her innocence is a breath of fresh air in today's society. She is warm,funny and incredibly gifted.
Helmut ,you seem like a lovely man. Please look out for Susan. She will need genuine friends now.

What a truly lovely man. I really hope no one does take advantage of Susan and that she has strong support, and a financial adviser to protect her money so she's set up for life and isn't tricked into giving it all away.
