Dr Who Tennant 'to stay'

Star David in talks for 2011 deal

DAVID Tennant is in talks to stay on as Dr Who until 2011, the News of the World can reveal.

The negotiations mark a stunning U-turn for the 37-year-old actor who had planned to walk away from the BBC role after filming four specials next year.

But, following pleas from BBC chiefs and fans, Tennant is now considering continuing as the telly timelord.

Insiders say TV bosses are prepared to offer him a big increase on his current £1 million deal.

So far Tennant, who recently appeared as Hamlet in London's West End, has stopped short of signing because of a potential Hollywood film deal and offers from rival TV channels.

But an insider said: "The BBC is determined to make sure David doesn't go without a fight. He is an integral part of the series."

I thougt they already had a replacement picked out?. Tennant has been great for Who but they need to look beyond him, he won't stay forever.

By Roj Blake.. Posted October 20 2009 at 12:23 PM.

If David really does leave Doctor Who I don't think it will be interesting any more. he is the best doctor ever and I would hate to see him actually leave the show.

By tara.. Posted September 29 2009 at 11:38 PM.

Please don't leave 'Doctor Who' David. You're my No.1 favourite Doctor ever and you play the part so brilliantly. Please come back, we all love you playing the Doctor because you're the best Doctor Who ever.

David Tennant is the best man to play the Doctor. He's funny, charming, keen and he's takes things seriously. That's why I like him.

Hm. I seem to remember that Timelords only regenerate 12 times. Does anyone else remember that?

David, don't go!

By Mystery.. Posted July 27 2009 at 3:00 AM.

If David does not come back, I will simply stop watching the show. Period. I have watched Dr. Who in the U.S. since I was a child (having to deal with tinfoil antennae in the days before cable) and he IS the Doctor.

Anyone else is a death sentence (for the loniest man who cannot die). Without David, the BBC will need to find a new show to replace it. Good luck.

Not being nasty to Matt Smith (the one who was/is meant to be the next Doctor) but me personally I really don't like his looks I'm sure he is a really friendly guy etc but the way I see it he looks like he is trying to look a bit like David Tennant probably trying to replace David Tennant but he will never replace David Tennant as David is and always will be the good looking Doctor and he is also a posative man that makes me think posative when I'm really negative

hi david i love you and you should stay in dr who intill 2011 your a great actor and i love ya so

By melissa creme.. Posted June 12 2009 at 6:54 PM.

If David Tennant departs Dr. Who, that will be the end of my support for the show. I love the show and the plot is amazing...but Tennant IS Dr. Who and without him...well...the good Dr. does not exist.

By Donna.. Posted May 31 2009 at 6:45 AM.

i heard that you think of saying as the timelord intill 2011 you should ecause you are just fantastic and i love you

By melissa creme.. Posted May 14 2009 at 4:21 PM.

DT has been the best ever Dr Who and has brought Dr Who in to the next generation, it would be great if he stayed, and it would certainly please my youngest boy who loves DT.
If he does stay, it would bring happy smiles to so many people, including me!!!
We love you David...please keep going just for a little longer!!!

DAVID TENNANT RULES STAY AS DOCTOR U SEXY BEAST

By beth.. Posted March 2 2009 at 9:34 PM.

David tennant and Tom baker are my favorite doctors. The new series is terrific. However, no schedules are available from the scifi station here in Tucson. I am also a great fan of Torchwood, don't even get that here but have the season 1+2 dvds,

In the episodes "The Stolen Earth" and "Journey's End" the BBC left us all in suspense when they did the regeneration scene as to who was going to be the new Doctor. The same thing has been happening ever since David Tennant announced that he was going to leave the role. Now that we all know he's still in talks about staying, the suspense keeps happening like a domino effect. Personally I'd like to see DT stay as the Doctor for a while longer. He's indeed the best Doctor I've seen since Tom Baker. If he decides to leave, then hopefully we don't get to see with him what has happened with previous Doctor actors that once they leave the role, they haven't been able to find anything else to make them more famous. This is known as the "Doctor Who Curse". LOL

David Tennant is the best dr.who so far in the past 7-8 years i've been watching dr.who and i really think he should stay. when i heard he was leaving dr.who in 2010 i started to cry and couldn't sleep for days, maybe even weeks!!!
i have all of his DVD sets and am getting season 4 on DVD soon!
i must say that i have to be one of his biggest fans.
and like Lyn said earlier, he really adds the sex appeal!

By stacey.. Posted December 23 2008 at 1:42 PM.

I have long had a massive passion for Tom Baker-he really was the ONLY Doctor until David Tennant came along. I am not fickle, it took a few episodes before I revised my opinion and now I would be devastated if he left. Mr. Tennant's Doctor is just as witty, wild and wonderful as my dear Mr. Baker but, dare I say it? Mr. Tennant adds sex appeal!

YAY DT is THE BEST Doctor ever and I would be o sad if he left...

By bec.. Posted November 17 2008 at 8:04 AM.

I love David Tennant, so this is good news. Looking forwards seeing him as Dr Who in December.

By Kannie.. Posted October 18 2008 at 10:17 PM.

DT is the best. Me & my son think hes ace

By Steve Chapman.. Posted October 18 2008 at 9:13 AM.

David Tennant is simply- one of the best Doctors since there has been in lets just say- a while. I hope he does stay, he has been the best since the show went of air, despite Christopher Eccleston reviving the show. David Tennant is absoloutly fantastic and should stay on. The BBC are lucky to have him working for them. Mr David Tennant has got my vote to stay on as the TVS greatest Timelord- DOCTOR WHO

By Nathan Mullins.. Posted October 17 2008 at 6:04 PM.

In no way has DT been my favourite Doctor, and in many ways his performance has disappointed me. His first season was largely a let down, the second a vast improvement, and the latest, not so bad. Mind you, he has done so much for the show in terms of popularity. However, I would like a new Doctor.

By Michael.. Posted October 17 2008 at 1:29 AM.

With the possible exception of Tom Baker, no other actor has embodied Dr. Who as completely and wonderfully as David Tennant. He's whimsical, lovable, plaintive and all around adorable. I hope he stays! Not enough of his stuff Stateside.

By de.. Posted October 16 2008 at 5:10 AM.

Oh i so hope David stays!! He is THE best Doctor and nobody will ever be able to replace him so please stay David!!! We love you!!!

By Bexfactor31.. Posted October 14 2008 at 7:49 PM.

DT rocksssssssss! XD

By wahhh :D.. Posted October 14 2008 at 7:24 PM.

I think it's time DT moved on to be honest. Series 4 was a big let down , especially the finale (what a cop out!). I have loved DT's doctor and he has been great in the role. I just think the show needs a complete overhaul. The production crew is changing, and I think it is time for a re-generation. I don't think much more can be done with tenth doctor. The great thing about the show in the past has been the constant re-generatioins to keep things fresh. I think DT runs the risk of getting stale as the greatTom Baker did in his last few series. Changes is not a bad thing

By stewart.. Posted October 14 2008 at 1:42 PM.

whoo hoo! :D

im happy.

By :).. Posted October 14 2008 at 6:29 AM.

Who cares..its a tv show.

By dennis.. Posted October 14 2008 at 1:02 AM.

Oh i hope this is true i adore David Tennant as the doctor he is just a brilliant actor and plays this role brilliantly, please let it be true he can play a scene with just his facial expression, genius.

By janet .. Posted October 13 2008 at 11:58 PM.

i was waiting for my train when this came up on the big screen i hope its true as David is the best Doctor and hes a Drawcard for the kids and grown ups but what ever he decides to do id be happy

By pauline buckingham.. Posted October 13 2008 at 6:26 PM.

i hope david stays on because h was the best doctor who ever

By chris.. Posted October 13 2008 at 3:57 PM.

I hope that David makes a good jugement call on his future as he is the Dr the best one so far. If he decides to stay, though I hope that he dose do the Dr Who film as it might progress into more fun filled adventures for all us fans to see. I cant wait untill the christmas 2008 the return of the cybermen.Good luck David im sure you will do the right thing.

By Tessa Bryant.. Posted October 13 2008 at 2:52 PM.

The lipless squeezer is a pin-necked ****. I'd still give him one though.

By Arthur Penrice.. Posted October 13 2008 at 11:17 AM.

You realize David that you'll be the very first actor playing the Doctor to actually had been run after with a raise for you to stay.;) I'm happy! I like when you play some of the Moffat stories!

By Marquise.. Posted October 13 2008 at 6:13 AM.

Considering this article can't even get their facts right over David's season with the RSC, I wouldn't go getting too excited yet. Hamlet hasn't even been to London yet, and won't until December. This is not hard information to discover.

By Amy Cannon.. Posted October 12 2008 at 10:30 PM.

lets hope this is true as notw and the sun have been way off in the past about doctor who speculation.

By Mark Davies.. Posted October 12 2008 at 5:15 PM.

no probs about it david tennant is the best dr who ever

By kevin.. Posted October 12 2008 at 2:46 PM.

*fingers crossed* that David signs on the dotted line and signs soon to end the speculation.

He has plenty of time yet in his career for other TV roles, but the Doc is the best! And he has GOT to be the film Doc - no substitutions!!!

By janine .. Posted October 12 2008 at 1:46 PM.

David, you have to stay!! Best Doctor ever, and have watched it since the beginning, but never as avidly as YOUR Doctor - the definitive! Certainly wouldn't bother if you go, no one can follow your superb interpretation of the role. Thanks for all your great episodes. By the way, do have the marvellous Jemima Rooper as your next assistant! I think you would have a brilliant rapport.

By Sue Bell.. Posted October 12 2008 at 12:38 PM.

Brilliant news about David Tennant staying on as Dr Who. I like many other women love David Tennant, and at the time was very disapointed about his decision to quit, but now he has changed his mind can look forward to the Christmas special and many future series.

By Christine Ray.. Posted October 12 2008 at 12:58 PM.

Yay and verily...

David has become a Doctor Who equalling any of the others in my book. If he does stay it will be no bad thing. He will be a tough act to follow either way...
