VILE pop paedophile Gary Glitter is in hospital after a heart attack, the News of the World can reveal.
He collapsed clutching his chest in the Vietnam jail where he is serving three years for abusing girls aged 11 and 12.
But although the attack left him terrified, fighting for breath and in agony... he survived.
The picture above shows the pervert, looking frail and with his trademark goatee now a full beard, recuperating in the garden of Benh Vien hospital, where he is under police guard.
We can also reveal Glitter, now 63, may be back in Britain within weeks.
British and Vietnamese officials have been in talks over his early release on health grounds.

Terrified
The Vietnamese are terrified he will have a second seizure and do not want him to die in their country.
It is also argued that the fallen star, who is not due for release until August, needs specialist care in the UK. He could be flown home to serve out his term or set free early under an annual Vietnamese amnesty next month.
Glitter, real name Paul Gadd, collapsed last Sunday after becoming increasingly sick over Christmas and New Year.
Prison sources say the former singer, diagnosed with high blood pressure a year ago, was found clutching his chest and struggling to breathe in the dormitory he shares with 18 inmates.
One warder told us: "We thought he might be dying and there was panic for a while as they tried to find a car to get him to the nearest hospital."
After watching Glitter's stroll in the hospital grounds, the News of the World spoke to his guards. One told us: "I'm afraid Mr Paul can't see you. He isn't well enough."
The nurse who takes Glitter's blood pressure every day told us: "Mr Gadd suffered a heart attack. He remains very frail and his blood pressure is still dangerously high. When he is well enough he will go back to prison but at the moment he is still a very sick man."
Though an early release to Britain seems more than Glitter deserves, we can reveal he is terrified at the thought since meeting British police and a child sex offender specialist 13 months ago to discuss how he would be treated here.
A friend of Glitter's lawyersaid: "He didn't like the sound of it at all and it made him determined never to settle back in the UK. He wants to go to Hong Kong, saying, 'It's a big city where I can go around without being noticed. I'll also be able to get English food'."
