CORRIE'S Reece Dinsdale is quitting the Street - despite being offered a massive pay rise to stay.
Stunned soap bosses wanted to up his £100,000-a-year salary by a THIRD so he'd carry on playing Gail Platt's pill-popping lover Joe McIntyre.
But Reece, 49, is turning his back on Weatherfield beacuse he's scared of being typecast. His character will be killed off next year when he takes an accidental overdose of painkillers.
Last night a Corrie source said: "Reece has been a massive hit and top brass thought they could strike a long-term deal. He was offered a massive pay rise but he turned it down.
"Executives were surprised. They wanted him to but he's wriggled off the hook."
Viewers have already seen kitchen fitter Joe get hooked on painkillers to cope with a back injury, and he'll soon go to drug dealers to feed his habit, turning on unlucky-in-love partner Gail.
Reece - who was in hit sitcom Home To Roost with John Thaw - joined Corrie in April 2008, saying talented actress Michelle Keegan, who plays his onscreen daughter Tina, was the reason. A Coronation Street spokesman said: "We wish Reece all the best."

Yep, you rarely see actors who complain of the typecasting again.
So, I guess you won't see him acting as a family man with children.
Strange how an actor like Leslie Phillips has gone on for years with his 'Ding Dong' persona.

My Wife is a Coronation Street fan, and I agree with her it is not nearly as good as the Ena Sharples days, far too much sleeping around, etc. it's as if when one couple come full circle, another couple starts.

Got to agree with the comments about his acting abilities - they're dreadful!
I can only pray that he takes wooden Rosie Webster with him, who has got to be one of the worst actresses to be gracing our screens at the moment!

It does seem that actors get restless with appearing in the soaps. Reese is a well respected and talented actor and will always work; however there is a tendency for actors and actresses to get carried away with the popularity of their soap characters. They then leave the soap on a high, then tend to disappear altogether. Very few have gone onto better things! I wish Reese all the best.

He's probably a nice guy in real life,but on corrie he's one of the few characters I've really got to hate...I'm glad he's going.

Reece is a good actor and if he wishes to take control of his acting career good for him for having the quality, confidence and guts to do so.

Are you serious???? This guy's ham acting is an embarrassment,and if I lost my pills as often as he does I would be sure to put them in my pocket and keep them there,instead of haphazardly looking for them as the pain struck. PLEASE,don't wait until next year....go.....now!!!!!!!!!!!! DREADFUL STORY LINE COMBINED WITH THE MOST AWFUL ACTING EVER.
