The singer - now mum to David Banda, three, and four-year-old Mercy James - was asked to pick from a dozen children who had been chosen for her by the Malawian government.
But a Channel 4 documentary says she chose David and Mercy instead despite them having families. Madonna, 50, was able to adopt Mercy earlier this month after successfully appealing a court ruling which refused her bid.
Mercy's grandmother Lucy Chekechiwa - whose 14-year-old daughter Mwandida Maunde died in childbirth - initially put a stop on Madonna adopting the youngster.
But after nearly three years of persistence from Madonna, Lucy relented.
She said: "As a family we had to sit down and reach an agreement. We agreed Mercy should go."
Madonna and Mercy: What Really Happened? will be shown tomorrow at 8pm on Channel 4.

Why does she always pick a child with a parent or family? Why not an orphan? Is it the thrill of the chase that fuels her, not love? We shall know a decade from now with a tell all book.

Excuse me but don't all adoptive parents choose the child they feel a bond with? I really dont think she picked her because she is cute either.
How many Hollywood stars spend their whole lives thinking about themselves? Is Madonna being picked on because she is a strong woman?
Leave her in peace you god-forsaken vultures!

Leanne:
"She's picked the cute, healthy kids, when there are loads more disadvantaged kids in every country without ANY family or relatives..."
I assume you are qualified to comment on Madonna's adoption plans by having adopted several 'disadvantaged kids' from 'every country without ANY family or relatives'. No? Thought not. Don't comment on something you know nothing about.

I think Madonna's intentions here are good, but it feels like they are 'designer adoptions' to me. She's picked the cute, healthy kids, when there are loads more disadvantaged kids in every country without ANY family or relatives...

well even if its true. you can't force Madonna to love every child, she obviously loved mercy and david and thats why she chose them. adopting is a serious matter, and adopting someone without the motherly bond there is a good idea.
