The Man Utd star, 23, forked out £70,000 on a diamond-encrusted Rolex for her.
And she bought him an £80,000 luxury Panerai watch after nipping to the same jewellers while he was in Japan helping his side win the World Club Cup.
Coleen, 22, knew Roo had bought her a SECOND £150,000 Bentley and a gold necklace - meaning the couple topped £300,000 on gifts for each other.
But they were unaware that they'd both been to upmarket jewellers Cottrills near their home in Wilmslow, Cheshire.
A pal said: "They wanted to surprise each other but ended up secretly going to the same shop. It wasn't until Christmas morning they realised what had happened. They loved their presents.
"They wanted to buy each other a special gift and thought it was symbolic they had the same idea for their first Christmas as a married couple."
Our source went on: "They knew a few of the gifts they were getting. Coleen already has a Bentley but she wanted the new version in a different colour.
"And she asked for a white gold necklace which spells out her name. She also has one of them, but it is in yellow gold."
BENTLEY dealers scored a Christmas hat-trick - selling luxury motors to three Man Utd stars.
Cristiano Ronaldo, Ryan Giggs and goalie Edwin van der Sar each treated themselves to £200,000 Bentley Speeds.
An Old Trafford source said: "The credit crunch doesn't mean anything to these guys. If there is a new supercar out there they just have to have it.
"Ryan Giggs has been a Bentley owner for years so it is no surprise he would have gone for the latest model and Cristiano has an ever growing collection of cars."
The powerful Bentley Speed can do 0-60mph in 4.3 seconds and has a top speed of 200mph.
It's bound to be good at taking corners too!

RE: Jordan's comment
I have both a Rolex and 3 TAG Heuer watches and there is no way that a TAG Heuer is a better timepiece, you have obviously never owned a Rolex, a Rolex is far superior and is one of the best priced in terms of quality that money can buy. TAG Heuer and the likes of Cartier are comparable, the latter is overpriced, and Cartier is no better than a TAG Heuer.
By Gary.. Posted February 28 2009 at 7:30 PM.
why have a Rolex when you can have a TAG Heuer
It may cost a little less but its a much better timepiece

When people can't afford football tickets anymore, footballers' salaries will come down. When people can't afford extras anymore, there will be no more endorsements for these people. The laws of economics will soon catch up for everyone if this recession continues for a few more years..

There are so many people blaming the Rooney's for spending money during the credit crunch - If you took the trouble to understand one of the main factors for the current economic slowdown is that people are reluctant to spend - in fact government is having to increase public spending to compensate for this. The likes of Rooney spending is what the country needs the most right now - 300k spending means 45k to government in VAT, the balance going back into the economy in wages, dividends payments and payments to suppliers etc. We should all be thanking them!

To be honest, footballers' wages aren't going to change no matter what, good for Rooney and Coleen, it's their money and they can spend it how they like. It is non of our business. The press is rubbing it in our faces, not them. Sure there's a credit crunch on, but earning as much as Rooney does, what does it matter? If I was earning that much, I'd fork out on a Bentley. A Rolex too. It's called jealousy.

To be honest if someone was willing to pay me £40k a month to write a column - i would be happy to take it. They earn their own money and are perfectly entitled to spend it in whatever way they wish. Yes, footballers are paid an extortionate amount but what Rooney earns is comparable with all the other footballers at his level so why have a go at him for how he spends it. Further - they are not pushing it in our faces - the media is. The likes of this paper are telling us about it otherwise we would not know - so again why criticise the Rooneys - I cant see what they have done wrong. I agree that this country is a mess financially but that isnt down to them - in fact they would appear to be doing a fair bit to help it out!!!

without rooney, colette could have been working at woolies. or not working at woolies, like the other 27,000 out of work staff. flash gits should tone it down whilst all this doom and gloom is going on.
By sarah.. Posted December 29 2008 at 12:23 AM.
To all the suckers who pay these people their wages week in week out - look at the result.
Absolutely disgusting!!!
By paul felps.. Posted December 29 2008 at 12:12 AM.
I think they are worth it, they do a good job. wish i was a footballer.
By Bob Stone.. Posted December 28 2008 at 10:25 PM.
disgusting, i'm about to be made redundant on tuesday and have applied for hundreds of jobs but no luck. footballers get paid too much money for doing too little work, it's outrageous. you would think they'd tone it down abit especially in this climate, but we're talking about the rooneys here, they like to go all out don't they? obviously the credit crunch doesn't affect them then, pffff.
By disgusted.. Posted December 28 2008 at 8:37 PM.
I am an Evertonian and he walked out on us but isnt jealousy a terrible thing there LUCK not ours doesn't make them criminals
By brian.. Posted December 28 2008 at 6:41 PM.
why spend 70,000 on a rolex full of diamonds i had one but it didnt cost that much.and why does she need 2 bentleys? talk about a credit crunch. why rub things in when so many people have to go without or rely on winning the lottery. its pathetic of them.they are scum the pair of them.
By dawn.. Posted December 28 2008 at 5:56 PM.
We should thank the Rooneys and the others for showing us the difference between taste and tasteless.
Money has never been able to buy style or class and hopefully it never will or it'll really get boring.

With the gap between the rich and the poor widening and with many decent, hardworking middleclass families now strugging to pay their mortgages because they are having to pay huge amounts of tax to support the benefits layabouts, these naff footballers should learn to be more humble and discreet about flashig their cash.
Footballers for a long time know that they can get away with doing anything from extramarital affairs, orgies, gang rape, to tearing down beautiful historic buildings in Cheshire to build disgusting, tasteless eyesores. It IS time that footballers were put down a peg or two, their wages are far too high for job they do. Carers of elderly people and sick children; hospital workers; anti-terrorist agents; school teachers and the street-level police etc etc etc all deserve more pay than they actually get. Top politicians and footballers receive huge, huge, huge wages and fringe benefits for what they actually do and achieve. Let's face it, football is a game. Saving lives is a very serious and stressful job. There is NO comparison.

Pity they can't buy dignity.
By emmy.. Posted December 28 2008 at 12:31 PM.
All the money prem clubs make players should get 30k to 120k .Some players playing for non league teams are on 700 to 900 a week and are playing in front of 500 people so any 1 playing in front of 75000 should be getting 120000k a week

While these jerks are spending their money on super presents just to boost their inflated egos millions of people are dying of hunger and disease all over the place. What a disgusting world we're living in!

I agree with most of the comments here - this blatant show of greed and money at a time when people are struggling to stay in their homes and keep their heads above water. They should be more discreet.
By Heidi B.. Posted December 28 2008 at 11:11 AM.
And to think there are soldiers risking their lives fighting terrorism and, protecting people like these for a pittance.Beckham has what it takes to carry this type of thing off and, does much good into the bargain.Rooney however, I hope will learn fast as, there are thousands of ex footballers doing it tough now, because of their(or wives)pomposity.
By bill gillen.. Posted December 28 2008 at 10:41 AM.
Why shouldnt footballers get great wages? Id rather see the best players at my club, getting the best wages. Football will never become a F1. Great players, high wages are here forever. Get ovet it, stop being jealous.
By paul.. Posted December 28 2008 at 10:14 AM.
CAP THERE WAGES TO 20 GRAND A WEEK TOPS.......
By david cannell.. Posted December 28 2008 at 9:54 AM.
No footballer is worth this amount of money, FIFA need to step in and cap players wages, else football, particulary english football will follow suit with Formula 1.
By UTD FAN.. Posted December 28 2008 at 9:36 AM.
I think it is obscene that when so many people are losing their jobs and homes these two are bragging about how much they are spending on each other at Xmas. They are scum.
By fred.. Posted December 28 2008 at 9:15 AM.
another waste of money for the rooney's
donate some of your money to poor, homeless and needy,or people that desperately need it
silly stupid overpriced gifts from stupid overpriced so called celebs
By phil.. Posted December 28 2008 at 9:03 AM.
This girl has no class whatsoever, and no amount of money can buy her that. Someone from her background shold be more humble and not waste money on items that cost obscene amounts of money esp in todays economic climate.
By Rafer Hudson.. Posted December 28 2008 at 3:34 AM.
Is any footballer worth this amount of money, and is she worth what people pay her, obviously they are. He is a footballer and she is a what??
