But with so much choice it can be more nerve-wracking selecting the right one than explaining to Auntie Ada why you aren't using the purple floral tea-cosy she gave you for Christmas.
SO we've asked I'm A Celebrity star and personal trainer CARLY ZUCKER to take the leg-work out of the decision-making by trying out the best of this year's bunch.
Plus we've got a competition with muscle-no less than 100 of Carly's favourite fitness DVDs to GIVE AWAY.

Thankfully superfit Carly, who's the fiancée of England and Chelsea footy ace Joe Cole, is a big fan of exercising at home. She said: "Trekking to the gym in the cold weather can be a real pain. So a home DVD is a great way to work off some of those Christmas pounds."
So read Carly's verdicts to discover which DVDs will get you looking fine in 2009 . . .

I REALLY liked Letitia's personality on the DVD-it shone through.
She was very friendly and talked about her former weight issues, so you could connect with her.
She looks in great shape after losing two stone and seven inches off both her waist and tummy, and she is inspiring.
You understand her instructions, and she seems as if she is enjoying it, so you trust her.
It was quite dance and aerobics-based, and had body-conditioning exercises that worked all of the body.
It had a bit of everything in it.
Letitia also gave a calorie-controlled eating plan, which was good because it's quite strict.
The only bad thing is the instructor, whose voice is quite hard to understand-it was quite difficult to hear the words.
But I definitely think people will get results with this one.

YOU'VE got to really love dancing to enjoy this-and having rhythm, balance and flexibility like Kelly and Flavia really helps too!
They talk you through the routines slowly beforehand. But not being a natural dancer, I still found them tricky.
You need to watch them several times before you can do them properly. I think it's more for toning and helping unfit but fairly trim people get fit. I don't think really overweight people could do it-it's pretty active and there's no eating plan either.
The sets are good-the DVD's well made and classy. Kelly is a great dancer, and she and Flavia look good together.
They are an attractive pair to watch-both have great outfits and bodies. Plus Kelly seems like a real girl who eats and has a curvy figure, so most people should be able empathise with her.

THIS had the most modern feel of all the DVDs, and Davina uses a good variety of workouts.
You can also choose which area of the body you want to focus on and then go straight to that bit of the DVD-which is a massive advantage.
Davina is her normal, bubbly, straight-talking self. She's suffered weight problems and had three kids yet still looks great. She lays it on the line what you have to do and how it helped her.
She says this is what I did, and if you do it then you will lose weight like I did-and that is inspiring.
She also explains about posture, which is useful advice.
The soundtrack is good, and this is the sort of thing you could do as a 20 or 30- minute blitz before work.
It is easy to follow but probably better for sporty people.
I watched this with a friend of mine who's had issues with her arms and muffin-top. She liked the fact you could skip to the relevant section and focus on those body parts.

PERSONALLY I thought this DVD was a bit boring, very complicated and hard to follow.
There's quite a lot going on-like loads of dancers doing the routines in bright costumes. That can be a bit off-putting.
But I would say this is probably quite good for teenage girls, who could do it with their friends -because it's like a pop video with a pop music soundtrack.
They'd probably like the outfits, too.
There are quite a lot of sharp head movements, so older people would probably be better off steering clear of this one.
Plus you do need a lot of space to do the routines in.
Anyone who is not very fit or properly warmed up could struggle with this because it is fairly strenuous.
So you need to be a fairly active person before you try it out.

THERE'S a bit of everything in this one-dancing, aerobics and body conditioning.
It was easy to follow and had advice on posture-which is so important when working out because otherwise you can injure yourself.
Coleen explained about eating healthily, things like it's bad to skip meals because your meta- bolism drops, and you should snack on fruit and nuts so your blood sugar levels remain stable. The set was white, so Coleen was easy to see.
And you don't need much space to follow all the routines.
The disco songs weren't bad but the cheesy music in-between the routines got on my nerves.

AS Jayne is an ice-skating champ, it's not surprising that this DVD is based on ice-skating moves.
Many of them involve sweeping your feet across the floor, which is difficult if you're doing it on carpet. And you need a lot of space.
My mum walked in while I was watching it and said it was something she'd like to try. I thought was a bit cheesy and repetitive, and the sequences were hard to follow. But on the plus side there is an eating plan.
Starz Home Entertainment, RRP: £19.99

DESPITE Camilla being Strictly Come Dancing's 2008 champion pro, this one's for beginners.
Compared with the others it's less energetic, so you probably won't burn as many calories. It is just basic dance routines, but I'm not a particularly co-ordinated person so it's a good dance DVD for me.
It's relatively easy-going and slow, so it was quick to pick up. The warm-up was easy to follow, and the moves were fairly low-impact. But it gets you moving, even if you're not a natural dancer.
I can see teenage girls or the over-50s liking it-my mum would definitely love it.
There are different levels, so you can progress gradually without being dumped in at the deep end.
But the costumes were a bit cheesy, like Camilla's top with "Camilla" written on it. And people wanting excitement might find it a bit boring.
