Beeb plan a new series of hit show

WHAT'S occurring? It's the return of the hit telly comedy Gavin and Stacey.

BBC bosses are thrashing out a deal with the show's stars and writers Ruth Jones and James Corden to bring it back for a new series.

There had been fears that the one-hour special on Christmas Eve would be the last after Ruth - famous for Nessa's catchphrase, "Oh, what's occurring?" - said they didn't want the show to become "boring and recycled".

But we can reveal the BBC1 sitcom WILL return. And the four main stars, who include Mathew Horne (Gavin) and Joanna Page (Stacey), are expected to get a 20 per cent pay rise.

A TV source said: "The Beeb do not want to let a hit like Gavin and Stacey go after just one series on primetime.

"They have had meetings with James and Ruth which have gone well.

"They are thrashing out the future for the show. Ideally, they want a new series but may get a few hour-long specials over the next few years.

"This show has the potential to become an Only Fools And Horses for the younger generation."

Gavin and Stacey was first broadcast on BBC3. It became a mainstream hit when it moved to BBC1, bagging two BAFTAs and best TV comedy at this month's British Comedy Awards.

BBC Vision director Jana Bennett confirmed the comedy was due to return. Star Horne said: "It's great news. We'll make sure we are paid what we're worth."

I think that it's a crackin' show. I watched the christmas special on Youtube and I wished I lived in Britian just for the soaps. In the states, we watch it on BBC America. Everyone is talking about it. I think there are no minor characters. Every character has a part for every storyline. Keep everyone or don't do it at all. Example, remember at the restaurant when everyone found Nessa was pregnant? Enough said..

Keith Price says get rid of Matt Corden - who's he? I know of JAMES Corden and MATT Horne but not Matt Corden! Get your facts right mate (or at least names!!) before you slag people off!

LOVE G&S! ...and all the great characters that make up the show. UNCLE BRIN FOR PM!! We have to download it over here and are chuffed to bits that we might be getting even more episodes. I was looking forward to the Xmas show with mixed feelings because I thought it might be the last but the news of more G&S episodes is a great Xmas gift indeed. Merry Christmas to all from your cousins across the pond!

Typical of the BBC to flog a show to its death...Gavin and Stacey isn't even that funny...I have no idea why its been elevated and lauded to the level that it has...perhaps if the BBC were to invest in more comedies as opposed to useless fare like Cash in the Attic then we'd be able to see shows such as Gavin and Stacey as being the mediocre offerings that they really are!

It is a crackin show. I have been watching the reruns and it just gets better and better!
All the actors are superb.
I love the Nessa , Gwen and Bryn and also the beautifully observed relationship between Gavin's mum and dad.

Keith Price, are you really serious about James Corden not being able to act? Not only has he co-written this brilliant, witty and charming series, he is an outstanding actor - have you ever seen 'The History Boys' for example? However, given a choice of cuddling him or Jo Page, I'd take Jo Page every time.
