BITTER Cardiff boss Dave Jones has slammed Glenn Loovens for lacking ambition after his £2.5million move to Celtic.

Celtic made it third time lucky when they completed the signing of Loovens yesterday.

But Jones hit out at Loovens saying: "He's joined a two-club league.

"I'm surprised that Glenn has left our division to play in Scottish football - that's the best way I can put it. He's gone to Celtic because he's looking at the Champions League but if you look at the Scottish Premier Division there are really only two teams in it.

"But that's Glenn's decision. That's what he wanted to do.

"His head was turned by the interest from both Celtic and Rangers. He served this club well and we wish him all the best.

"Glenn wanted to go. His agent said he would sign a pre-contract with another club in January but we were prepared to let that happen.

"If Celtic hadn't met our valuation, Glenn would still be here. But leaving Cardiff was always on his mind and he was looking to move on to what he thinks are better things. All he said was he wanted to play at a higher level."

Celtic had started the bidding at £1.5m for Loovens, but had to up the offer twice before Cardiff accepted £2.5m up front.

It's understood the 24-year-old defender has trebled his £5,000-a-week wage by joining Celts.

Cardiff chairman Peter Ridsdale said: "We'd been looking for £3m but we feel this represents good business. Glenn came here for £250,000."
