The veteran Gers stopper was devastated by the manner of the Romanians' 4-1 Champions League blitz. He said: "Against Unirea everything which could go wrong did go wrong.
"We did not keep possession of the ball well enough. We didn't defend well enough. We didn't work hard enough. You can go right through the card and tick every box because all the basics were wrong.
"We never got close enough to them to make a tackle and we contributed to every one of their goals.
"Maybe there was an element of bad luck involved in the way the ball hit the net because they got a couple of own goals but there was too much bad luck there for that to be the only reason. They worked hard for their luck, we didn't.
"After making a good start we let them back into the game far too easily."
Unirea's Tineretului Stadium failed its UEFA fitness test and their support of around 3,000 fans will be lost in the 27,000 capacity Stadionul Ghencea, a 90-minute drive away in Bucharest.
Weir insisted: "It doesn't matter if there are 10,000 or 100,000 there, there are three points at stake. It's performances which win games, not crowds.
"Regardless of who's watching, or what the surroundings are, we have to put in a good performance and do the right things. You can either beat yourself up over and over again or you can go out and win the next game.
"You have to think about the things you've done wrong, obviously, but you can't wallow in it and have it make the next one worse.
"People will be looking for us to trip up because that's the way things are here in this country. You're not allowed to have bad results at home or anywhere else.
"We realise there will be pressure on us in Bucharest and we have to respond to it. That's when you find out who can handle it and and who can't. All we can do is go back to basics."
