Stunning Hayley, 21, was thrown in at the deep end when she had to pose in a pool wearing a couture gown for the Living TV show.
But she had to be rescued by two divers when her fashion wig became entangled in a special head-piece made for the shoot which was fixed underwater.
Shaken Hayley, of Milngavie, Glasgow, admitted: "It really seemed like I was drowning.
"By the time I had dropped down to where the underwater head-piece was positioned, my breath had run out and I was struggling to stay down. Then my wig got caught and I started freaking out. Two divers had to untangle me.
"I never recovered after that. I lost my confidence and knew the photographer hadn't been able to get a good shot."
But 5ft 11in brunette Hayley, a fashion marketing student at Glasgow Caledonian University, revealed her dreams of becoming a top model are not washed up.
She added: "I've made it to the final of the Scottish Fashion Awards' Scottish Model of the Year - I'm delighted."
Britain's Next Top Model is on Living TV tomorrow at 9pm.
