A police insider told yesterday how scores of German visitors were taught the words of vile sectarian songs while drinking with Gers followers at a pre-game PARTY.
And dozens of fans of the Ibrox club obtained match tickets to stand alongside the Hamburg hooligans - who battled with cops and rival supporters before and after the Europa Cup tie.

The violence came after they had been welcomed to Glasgow by Gers diehards at a busy city boozer.
Our police source said: "It had been arranged beforehand for Hamburg 'ultras' to meet their Rangers counterparts at the Glaswegian pub.
"It seems they were able to buy scarves saying 'Hamburg: We Hate Celtic'. And it appears some Gers fans taught them the words to the Famine Song and other controversial chants.

"When the Germans started singing them at Celtic Park later on, it almost caused a RIOT. There's no doubt the Rangers fans enjoyed helping the visitors to goad their rivals."
The Germans, plus some of their Scottish hosts, caused CHAOS as they walked from Gorbals to Parkhead.
The police insider said: "There were skirmishes and violent disorder and they let off flares and fireworks. After the game there was widespread fighting around the Glasgow Cross area."

Now hardcore Celtic fans plan to get their revenge when the teams meet again in Gemany a week on Thursday. A Hoops casual warned: "Hamburg's fans were out of order. We'll give them a taste of their own medicine."
Meanwhile, Hamburg's city rivals are set to throw a party for Celtic fans in a notorious RED LIGHT district.
Supporters of St Pauli - who have long-standing links to the Hoops - hope to stage a rock concert in the Reeperbahn before the Euro clash.

Firstly I would like to say that the famine is over. I would also like to commend the Hamburg supporters for their pre match display, what a glorious sight! Can we please borrow your banner for Ibrox?

I would like to know who is responsible for organizing the union jack flag with no surrender underneath it,at the Hamburg v Celtic match. This was clearly organized by Hamburg senior officials to cause anger and reaction from the Celtic fans.I can understand if this came from Rangers fans but the levels of co-operation needed from around 2500 fans and club officials is a disgraceful act of ignorance from Hamburg F C at the highest boardroom level.

Celtic and Rangers fans should both rise above this pathetic 80s style violence and start supporting their teams. Rangers did it in Romania AND Celtic have started it at Parkhead against Hamburg. Its so sad, why do you want to waste money and fight? Losers!

Re: Gary B and Jimmy - Do not dare tar all Rangers fans with the same brush! Oh, and your club's fans are all angels? Don't make me laugh! I am proud to support Rangers without the need to cause trouble and it disgusts me that these thugs claim to support the same team as me.

Celtic are the angels once again..... Celtic started it, Clearly can't face that their mob are not rated as written in the NOTW a week or two ago. And the fact they got beat, Seems they like starting things when they get beat although they are the '' best supporters in the world '' What a joke of a club.

Don't Blame Rangers Fans for something they did not do!! I live here in Germany and I knew that there would be a hardcore of Hamburg fans coming to wind up the Celtic fans. I have seen it all here, and frankly its only a game of football. Some Celtic fans don't need wound up. They have enough paranoia in them to fill Parkhead.

I was at the game on Thursday and witnessed some disgraceful scenes involving Celtic fans, Celtic fans caused the trouble and launched attacks on the visiting German supporters.
We cannot blame this on other people, we have an element at our club that we do not need, And we do not need songs about the 1981 hunger strikers either or songs about British Soldiers being killed, my son is a serving squaddie and I am very proud of him, His colleagues get welcomed home by their clubs support, why can't my son recieve the same treatment at Parkhead.
I had flights booked for Hamburg, I will not be going now as I fear the Hamburg fans may seek revenge because of the actions of a few mindless cowards who will not have the balls to go to Hamburg and face the consequences of their actions on Thursday

So Hamburg fans "battled with rival fans" and you claim it was Rangers fans fault! surely this could also be interpreted as "Celtic fans battle with European visitors" obviously, as that doesn't have a dig at Rangers fans, it doesn't sell as many papers!
Celtic fans were fighting fact! probably due to going in a huff because Hamburg fans dared sing about Rangers!

We rejoice in your bitterness, we rejoice in your pain.
Your police informer whats his name Seamus MCTally who drinks in the Brazen Head.
Face facts your team got beat, your fans as usual got into a fight with opposing fans and you blame Rangers fans for it..
get a life

By bud. Posted October 25 2009 at 10:45 AM.
No suprise this happened.Rangers and Hamburg have been allies since the 1970's.
Hamburg Neo Nazis and a minority of rangers fans who were national front members have had a relationship where they have shared their racist and sectarian views.
You can go on Utube and see them sing songs about the pope and giving nazi salutes.

Fao - Archie
You need a mirror kid?
Do you remember Blackburn?
Do you remember The plane getting an emergency landing due to your fans behaviour?

So Mr Costello, did you report on your paper about the Clifftonville and Celtic game where they wher collection buckets outseide the ground for IRA prisioners?. Hmmm thought not.
Did you also miss one vital point in your article?. Yeap i think you did apart from living in fantasty land with your green tinted glasses, you forgot to add the Glaswegian is an OFFICIAL Hamburgh supporters pub also, and has been for a number of years.
Good to see you hurting though!

Another hatchet job on Champions Rangers by Peter Liewells puppets. As for your "police insider" its just a little voice in your head isn't it Mr Costello. I gave up reading when you claimed Celtc fans plan revenge in Hamburg. A job at the Beano awaits.
By Phil McGillivan. Posted October 25 2009 at 8:39 AM.
So the Rangers fans have done nothing wrong here? Why get involved?
Three posts and not one condemning such actions...you should be...Rangers can well do without this kind of publicity.
Instead, you deflect it on to Celtic.
Ban the Old Firm word...Celtic are NOT part of this!
By Sean McGarrity. Posted October 25 2009 at 8:34 AM.
Typical rangers fans, cant go anywhere without causing trouble, they werent even playing yet they cause disorder in glasgow, but i think the whole country has grew to expect nothing less from them. hail hail! oh and that rotten side of glasgow.....grow up.
By Gary B. Posted October 25 2009 at 8:24 AM.
I wonder why Mr Costello you havent written stories such as this when the Celtic fans have travelled abroad and caused chaos forcing aeroplane's to land because of their behaviour, stabbing each other and their love of singing in praise of IRA murder gangs.
Yet again the Scottish mhedia comes to the rescue of their beloved Celtic.
By Jane Pollok. Posted October 25 2009 at 8:14 AM.
sir i see your reporter"s i again showing their left wing based credentials in that the article in today's paper has no evidence at all to say that rangers fans caused any of the trouble at the midweek game in glasgow.
i heard no sectarian singing at all from the away end but did hear the usual irish republican chanting; glorifying terrorists from the home support. but as usual this is overlooked by your paper. being an ex soldier myself i find the singing and accepting of this in scotland today is to say the least gutrenching but as on wedensday this was overlooked i hope this comment is not.
yours a tax paying law abideing british citizen.

Yet another hatchet job on the Rangers support by another gutter rag.Your rage and hatred is about as transparent as cling film Mr Costello.Mr Liewwell must be paying handsomely these days.Lie down and grunt. No Surrender
