Sly Annette Daniel, 47, and crooked crony Jean McGovern lead a feared 50-strong crew who plunder stores in Scotland and northern England.
Their stealing sprees can net them £5,000 a time and they can strip a shop in just minutes.
Now ex-con Annette - caged in 2006 for theft - has spent part of her ill-gotten gains on a luxurious £400,000 mansion.
The exclusive property on the Wallacefield site in the north of Glasgow comes complete with double garage, drawing room, dining room and study.
A gangland insider said: "Questions need to be asked about how she has managed to move into a home like that. No doubt the property will be in someone else's name and the money trail will be hidden as well as possible."
Builders Cala Homes describe the estate as being perfect for "today's discerning family".
The underworld source added: "It's very flash and exclusive and I bet the neighbours will want something done about a Daniel on their doorstep."
McGovern, 42, has also snapped up a new property - a detached home in Springburn thought to be worth £150,000.
Our insider said: "They are laughing at the law with these houses."
The McGovern and Daniel families have an uneasy underworld alliance.
The McGoverns are headed by Jean's cousins Paul, 35 - who has served time for murder - and 44-year-old Joe.
They took over from Tony McGovern, 35, who was shot dead in 2000.
