A fire crew raced to the Hoops idol's swanky flat when his grill went up in flames following a party.
Lennon, 37, had thrown a small gathering on the terrace of his posh gaff in Glasgow's West End.
But the sizzling grill got out of control after the ace left it and went to bed - sending flames and thick smoke billowing into the penthouse.
Frantic Lennon called 999 fearing the fire was going to spread through his luxury pad.
The Strathclyde Fire and Rescue Service crew from Yorkhill rushed around to his £1million home at 6am last Saturday and quickly put the fire out.
One fireman said: "Lennon looked aghast. He was very worried and didn't know where to look or what to do when the guys came stomping through his house with hoses, wearing breathing apparatus and shouting instructions."
The blaze scorched floorboards and caused smoke damage to a doorframe at the plush Dowanhill pad which the ex-midfielder shares with partner Irene McLoy, 33, and their three-year-old son Gallagher. They are believed to have been on holiday.
Lennon was unavailable for comment last night, but another firefighter said: "We caught the fire early before it had time to do any real damage to his house.
"He is lucky considering how many of these blazes turn out to be serious."
