A TEEN pal of tragic schoolgirl Jodi Jones was last night fighting for his life following a brutal golf club attack.

Daniel Hamilton was dragged from his home and battered by two thugs after answering a 3am knock at his door.

The vicious yobs rained blows onto the 19-year-old's head and body before leaving him in the street.

Daniel - a close pal of Jodi's sister Janine, 24 - was found in a pool of blood by a horrified relative yesterday and rushed to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. Last night his family were too traumatised to comment and were keeping a vigil at his hospital bedside.

Daniel's mum Lorraine looked pale as she left the family home clutching a teddy bear.

A police source said: "He was given a savage beating and things are looking touch-and-go at the moment." Daniel's home is on a neighbouring estate to where tragic Jodi (left), lived in Dalkeith, Midlothian.

Evil boyfriend Luke Mitchell, 20, is serving life for the 14- year-old's horrific 2003 murder.

A neighbour said yesterday: "Daniel knows Janine very well and he knew Jodi too."

Another added: "Danny is only a few months younger than Jodi, they mixed in similar circles."

A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said: "Two men have been detained in connection with an attempted murder."
