CHECK OUT THE ESSEX BABE

HUDDLED around a microphone, shoulder-to-shoulder with soul diva Egypt and grime star Bashy, Pixie Lott is giving it some.

With the cream of Britain's urban talent - including DJ Ironik, VV Brown and Tinchy Stryder - clustered at mics either side, the girl with the greatest legs in pop tilts her head back and lets rip.

"I got soul," she sings, her extraordinary voice soaring towards the studio ceiling, no mean feat when your singing partner is the exceptionally talented Egypt. "But I'm not a soldier," she adds, in the kind of golden-throated tones that would make Brandon Flowers weep.

This is London's Metropolis Studios - where hits by the likes of Jay-Z, George Michael and Paolo Nutini have been crafted - and the occasion is the recording of Young Soul Rebels single I Got Soul, an all-star reworking of Killers hit All These Things That I've Done.

Expected to crash the Top Five today, just behind Cheryl Cole's Fight For This Love, it's designed to raise awareness of the work the War Child charity does to protect kids in conflict zones such as Iraq, Afghanistan, Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.

"I'm so glad we can do something to help," says Essex girl Pixie - who at 18 is already older than many of the youngsters press- ganged into military service in central and east Africa's guerilla armies.

"After hearing about the cause I researched it.

"It's horrifying to think that so many children faced with war are having a daily struggle with hunger, malnutrition and violence. I immediately wanted to be involved. And I'm a big Killers fan. I recently covered their song When You Were Young at a couple of shows."

Her Young Soul Rebels co-stars are already big fans. DJ Ironik told A-Listed: "Pixie is a great person. I met her ages ago at a Casio event and since then she has got very far, she's a star and already has her own name on a jet!"

But while her old pals Kid British hang out with the other War Child stars - including N-Dubz, Chipmunk and Frankmusik - Pixie's packed schedule means that, after she's sung, she doesn't have time to join the party.

Instead she's back out of the door racing towards the next event in her busy diary.
