HOW STARS WARMED UP FOR T IN THE PARK

T in The Park Preview

WANT to know which acts are on form ahead of next weekend's bash? A-Listed headed to Glastonbury to check out some of the acts who are destined to be this year's T highlights.

WE saw some cracking performances at Worthy Farm - but with the Balado crowd in full effect, it's guaranteed that what we see at T will be even better . . .

Lady Gaga

LADY GAGA, Main Stage, Saturday

THIS year's hottest pop phenomenon was one of the most talked-about acts at Glastonbury thanks to multiple costume changes, which seemed to consist of skimpier and skimpier outfits as the set went on. Expect her to do the same this weekend when she gets T moving to hits like Let's Dance and Boys Boys Boys. You'd be mad to miss the new acoustic version of chart- topper Pokerface - it's a cert to be a huge sing-song.

Blur

BLUR, Main Stage, Saturday

AFTER playing an incredible set on the Pyramid Stage that will go down in Glastonbury folklore as one of the best the festival has ever seen, Blur - playing the final date of their reunion - are likely to make their closing set at Balado even MORE memorable. Tender will have the fans in front of the Main Stage singing in unison and the harder, faster version of Parklife is likely to get everyone moving.

The Specials

THE SPECIALS, Main Stage, Saturday

"IT'S taken us 28 years to play Glastonbury," grumbled poker-faced frontman Terry Hall as the reunited ska legends took to the Pyramid Stage on the Friday night. But the Coventry favourites dazzled with a set full of fan favourites like A Message To You Rudi, the fantastic 'Too Much Too Young and the gobsmacking set-closer, Ghost Town. Even without founder member Jerry Dammers, expect The Specials to be one of next weekend's highlights. And who knows, 85,000 mad-for-it fans at Balado might even get a smile out of Terry.

Glasvegas

GLASVEGAS, King Tut's Tent, Saturday

THE Glaswegian gloom-rockers have been exhaustively touring their magnificent debut album for the past year. At Glastonbury, they proved they are a band with a future in the stadiums and arenas by playing a blitzkrieg of noise and reverb that blew away the hippies camped at the back of the Other Stage. Expect Flowers And Football Tops, It's My Own Cheating Heart and crowd sing-along favourite Go Square Go to unite the thousands of homegrown fans who will undoubtedly gather in front of the stage for their most triumphant festival show so far.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs

YEAH,YEAH,YEAHS, Radio1/NME Stage, Friday

ALREADY basking in the glow of having one of this year's best albums under their belts in the shape of It's Blitz, the New York hipsters brought disco fever to Glasto's Other Stage. Dressed in a natty flower-power catsuit and cape, singer Karen O had the crowd in the palm of her hand. Heads Will Roll and Zero - which saw an inflatable eye descend across the crowd - were pounding anthems and Maps made even the most thick-skinned souls shiver. Expect real magic at T.

Paolo Nutini

PAOLO NUTINI, Main Stage, Saturday

ON tour to promote his chart-topping album Sunny Side Up, the Paisley troubadour has proved himself to be a world-class performer. But last weekend he turned in an INCREDIBLE performance at Glasto's Other Stage that got everyone grinning from ear - including Paolo himself. Fans lucky enough to catch his acoustic set in the Green Fields, meanwhile, saw him breathe magic into favourites like Jenny Don't Be Hasty and Candy. When he returns to Balado on Saturday expect his band - including genius guitar player Donny Little - to step it up another gear again. A classic set in the making? Oh yes.

The Virgins

THE VIRGINS, Futures Stage, Saturday

THE one-time "coolest band in New York" - thanks largely to support slots with Sonic Youth and Patti Smith - are now one of the most hotly-tipped outfits on the planet. It's taken a little while for the charms of Donald Cumming's crew's self-titled debut album to filter through but after storming the John Peel Stage at Glastonbury in front of their "biggest-ever crowd" expect them to convert Balado to their Duran Duran meets The Strokes sound. Look out for lots of girls dancing to them.

Lily Allen

LILY ALLEN, Radio1/NME Stage, Sunday

EVERYONE'S favourite bratty little sister has got all grown up - and pretty sexy too. She pulled a huge crowd to the Pyramid Stage on Glasto's opening night, with a set drawn from her two chart-topping albums. Highlights included The Fear, Smile and even a cheeky cover of Britney's Womanizer. As she sang the "sun is in the sky" line in the chorus of a fantastic LDN - just as the sun was beating down over Worthy Farm - it felt like a proper moment. No matter what the weather at Balado, on this form we guarantee Lily will go down a storm.

Franz Ferdinand

FRANZ FERDINAND, Main Stage, Friday

THERE'S no doubt that Franz are the perfect festival band. At Glasto, their brand of sleek, sexy indie drew a HUGE crowd to the Other Stage. Lucid Dreams had thousands raving it up while a souped-up Take Me Out sounded as fresh and vibrant as we've ever heard it. The songs from the new Tonight album sounded incredibly impressive live too. Expect the Glasgow favourites to be the first to bring the party to Balado on Friday night.

Doves

DOVES, Radio1/NME Stage, Sunday

CLOSING the John Peel Stage on the first night of Glastonbury it was clear that the Manchester heroes were enjoying themselves almost as much as they were at their incredible Barrowland gig in April. "You are all magic people," declared frontman Jimi Goodwin as he walked off stage after a blistering set. Returning for an epic encore version of There Goes The Fear, the crowd responded by going absolutely nuts. But there was even better to come when they lit into a blistering version of classic club hit Space Face - dusted off from their Sub Sub days. On this form, it's clear that Doves will soar at T In The Park.
