Indeed, he was so foully abused that we defy anyone with a heart not to weep as you read the harrowing words in this newspaper today.
Alarmed at Haringey's child protection system, one brave social worker tried desperately to draw attention to her fears. Nevres Kemal's cynical reward was to be disciplined, sacked - and legally gagged.
It took 60 social worker, police and medical visits over eight months NOT to save Baby P.
Now, too late, we know that four government ministers passed the buck in a bewildering and futile merry-go-round when alerted to flawed child care in the borough.
The same council that failed tragic Victoria Climbie eight years ago-and promised not to fail children again.
Yet, even in the wake of the mite's barbaric torment, the council's smug social services chief, Mrs Sharon Shoesmith, insists they dealt with the case satisfactorily.
She boasts sickeningly of her blundering department meeting "perfor- mance graph targets".
She believes that no-one should be sacked and she doesn't have the decency to resign.
"The very sad fact," she says, "is that we can't stop people who are determined to kill children."
Well, yes you can actually.
And that's why you and the rest of your department incompetents can and must be prevented from allowing anything like this to happen again.
Poor, defenceless Baby P was callously betrayed in his brief life.
For the sake of every vulnerable child in the land the government cannot betray his memory by allowing the system to let another child die.

I feel complete rage towards these people who call themselves social workers, any every day mother would know, that something untoward was going on in that disgusting house, and as for that doctor she must be a complete idiot, to say she didnt examine him because he was miserable and cranky,so would she be if she had a broken back and suffered like that poor little boy, breaks my heart it really does. Sack them all and put them on trial for murder,this tragedy should not be allowed to happen ever again. We are supposed to be a ''civilised country '' please don''t let this little baby boy to have suffered and die at the hands of those despicable people be in vain, they must not be allowed to get away with this.

regarding Baby P. i have forced myself to read about baby p and have never been so disgusted with the human race.did nobody from the social ever pick this gorgeous child up? where were the grandperants? Never mind just sacking all involved, put them on trail for murder.that is what they are guilty of in the long run.

All those involved with baby p should be sacked on the spot, how can you disguise bruises with chocolate they should never be able to work with children again. the state and smell of the house they should of noticed something was wrong no loving parents would bring there children up in a house like that. the mother and stepfather should be pictured al over the paper not kept secret they are not the victim. when is this country going to get a grip it is a digrace and i am ashamed to call myself english!!!!

Never before have I entered into a debate via the internet but this time I just felt I had to. I agree wholeheartedly with everything you have said Carole. Shoesmith should certainly be sacked. Her superior attitude when she stated "I certainly will not be resigning" and her uncaring manner are not what is needed when caring for abused children. Finally, I am puzzled as to why the real father did not notice anything when he saw his son. All I have heard about him is that he loved his son very much.
