I'm on your side, not in your wallet

I KNOW how tough times are right now. Jobs, homes and businesses are being lost. People need help . . . and they need it fast. They want to know politicians are on their side-not the other side of the world.

And on your side is right where the Conservatives are. We will not stand idly by as people lose everything.

Here's what we'll do. For families who are struggling to make ends meet, we will freeze council tax for two years and take your home out of inheritance tax.

For small businesses with cash flow problems, we will let you delay your VAT payments by six months. And for people worried about their livelihoods, we will cut payroll taxes for the smallest companies. This will affect more than two million jobs.

All of these things are fully costed. All of these things could be introduced tomorrow. Lower taxes are in my DNA - it's one of the reasons I came into politics. I know it's your money and I know you want some of it back. And I want to give it to you.

If Gordon Brown had fixed the roof when the sun was shining, I could give you much more. But he didn't. So now the cupboard is bare and we're worse off than any other major economy.

Even worse, he's talking about borrowing even more. And what does that mean? The risk of higher interest rates-and mortgage bills-and higher taxes to pay off the debt tomorrow. Our proposals are based on responsibility. They won't need an extra borrowing splurge.

That's the choice. This government has maxed out our nation's credit card-and they want to keep on spending by getting another. We believe we need to get a grip, be responsible and help families now in a way that doesn't cost us our future.

JUST STOP SPENDING SO MUCH. It's not rocket science. All Cameron needs to do save our battered and broken economy is stop all this borrow borrow/spend spend public sector splurging. It's madness.

Cameron will look after, the well off. He will promise the world just to get into power.

About time someone started speaking up for tax cuts. I'm fed up of running to stand still to pay the bills for my family. I'm fed up of high taxes, fed up of public services I don't get (Police, please note!) after paying high taxes, fed up of quangos interfering, useless advice, fed up of ever increasing council taxes only to find my bin gets emptied once per week, fed up of lies and spin but most of all fed up of 11 YEARS OF BROWN AND HIS ROTTEN NEW LABOUR REGIME!!!!

Cameron might not be perfect, but he's trying and I'm willing to give him a chance at the next election.

As a retired working class man and home owner, I don't know anyone who is affected by inheritance tax.
Why do the Tories keep hammering on about it?
Because it affects their wealthy friends.
They then throw a few crumbs to the lower orders to keep them on side.
We know whose interests the Tories support and if you earn less than £60.000 a year it isn’t you.

Fergus,
A jobsworth is effectively unemployed anyway so
why pay them anything more than the dole?

Excellent comment Lance and totally spot on, the BBC makes more than enough by selling it's shows overseas they could also introduce adverts as another way of making revenue, personally I would prefer to sit through a few adverts than pay out £140 a year that I cannot afford it's even worse when like me you only watch one or two shows on the channels.

What a clever move, Mr Cameron, writing for the News of the World !! Have you tried the Sunday Sport too ??

…and, of course, you could make nearly every household in Britain £139.50 per year better off by making a manifesto commitment to abolish the Licence Fee, break up the BBC and privatise it.

I find it absolutely astounding that with families the length and breadth of Britain being forced into some serious belt-tightening, that people should be forced to pay a £140 per year tax to watch TV [£145 per year if, like me, you pay by Direct Debit and incur what the BBC calls a “small charge”].

What better way, Mr Cameron, for you to help ‘hard-working families’ and ‘people struggling to make ends meet’ than by getting rid of this hated tax. What a wonderful opportunity for you to show the working classes that you are, after all, on our side and are prepared to take on the powerful, vested interests of the establishment-elite on our behalf.

Should we be using the tax system [let’s make no mistake here, the Licence Fee is tax] to take money from the cash-strapped working poor and give it to millionaire BBC presenters like Jonathon Ross with their ‘£140-of-your-pay-comes-my-way’ attitude and their sneering condescension towards the values of the man in the street. Is it right that we do that?

Robert, who told you that about income tax? Do you REALLY believe it? Of course it isn't true. And if you sack a few million jobsworths - by the way, what do YOU do? - then you'll have to pay them unemployment benefit. Or are you going to abolish that too? Of course, if you cut Government spending to zero you can abolish taxes altogether. Wow!

By Fergus Pickering.. Posted November 9 2008 at 1:58 PM.

I read somewhere that you could abolish income tax if you returned spending to 2003 levels. Why not do that? Cut taxes by sacking a few million jobsworths. Get rid of all the Quangoes, stop Public Employees living high on the hog at taxpayers expense. No more luxury 4x4's for the Police and Highways Agency, £10million spent on flights by the BBC, there is an endless list of savings that could be made. Saying that you can pay your VAT bill a few months late is useless, especially while we watch the continued drunken sailor spending by the bloated public sector.
