As a student nurse I see why there is a big fuss about it. We have to uphold the integrity of our profession -- therefore no going around half naked! As nurses we get badd press without going out and trying to do so - Martin Chuzzlewick, Angel of Death etc. We are a respectable profession and it does not help our case that we are potrayed as some sort of Strippers! - Barbera Windsor and ^^ co.
By the way I'm not old - i'm turning twenty.
If you feel the need to strip - don't disclose that u r a nurse!
By Martha. Posted March 18 2009 at 11:01 AM.
reading the comments it seems there are alot of nurses who might b that bit older than those shown an sure enough these are the ones who seem to have a problem with this calender,
do i get a little hint of the green eyed monster. . .
an like somebody said. . if it was firemen there wouldn't even be a comment. . but cos its women and omg !! women cannot be photographed in this way cos its porn!! shock horror . .it changes everything...
change with the times people... if you walked into hospital and saw the people caring for you had a sense of humor, an were so happy about their job they felt they could express them self's in this way.. it would make the nervous waiting 2 be cut open experience a hole lot more relaxing. .
some people need 2 see this is no different 2 firemen covered in baby oil... and that times have changed...

That's a smart point...for sure

"Lack of professionalism". Is that showing gratitude to the people who made all the sacrifices saving lives over a few tastefully captured photographs. "No sex please, we're British" - most farcical and pretentious thing to say . Get a life, we are British, more please...

What's the big deal?
I don't see any women getting up in arms about firemen calendars that every middle aged bored housewife gets for Christmas each year. They even get put up in corporate offices that don't allow men to put up pics of their girlfriend in a bikini.
Hypocrites.
By David Peacock. Posted November 29 2008 at 7:52 PM.
It was obviously done as a bit of fun, however, nurses are in need of a positive portrayal at the moment, all this calendar does is confirm stereo types of nurses... I'd rather not be assosicated with this kind of thing, instead I'd like people to be aware of the outstanding work nurses do, what pressure they work under and how caring they are.
By Anon. Posted October 30 2008 at 5:08 PM.
does that mean nurses arn't allowed on the beech in their bikini??
By anon. Posted October 28 2008 at 4:12 PM.
If these girls were real nurses they would have their pin number taken away from them. I have been a nurse for 31 years and I am ashamed to say I am one after seeing these nurses. Why train for 3 years which is no easy feat to protray nurses have they have done. I hope the NMC have something to say about this!!!!
By Jenny Smith. Posted October 25 2008 at 8:29 PM.
I cannot, for the life of me. understand why so many people are up in arms about this.. Its a fun thing to do to raise money and as other people have said friemen do calenders too. Plus its not as if they were on duty at the time the pictures were takin. If you study the pictures hard enough i cant see a single patient anywhere in the background so whats the problem. And all the people that are complaining should take a look at themselves and pause for thought. Wise up and grow up

As someone who teaches student nurses and was asked about this, I do wish some the comment writers had read some the first posts on this page. Several people have rightly pointed out that registered nurses (and in this country 'nurse' is a title protected by law) are expected to adhere to a code of conduct. The code is freely available on the NMC website (www.nmc-uk.org) and contains a pretty clear statement that individaul registered nurses 'must uphold the reputation of your profession at all times' I would have thought, from previous decisions of the NMC and it's predecessor, the UKCC, that appearing in such a calendar might not be seen as the most appropriate behaviour for a registered nurse. The regulator (the NMC) regards any activity that brings into question a persons fitness to be a nurse or the affect of a persons actions may have on the standing of nursing as avery serious matter.

Why is everyone giving these girls a hard time... this calendar is done year after year firemen do a similar one and so do teachers - it doesnt stop them from being outstanding at their jobs. This is just a bit of fun done every year and to be honest I really do think people are blowing it out of proportion it doesnt stop the health workers featured in them doing their jobs with the same dedication as all the other health workers in the NHS. For all you are are going out of your way to put them down, I dont see why you dont put your energy into real issues to do with nursing in this present day - some of which are the fault of registered nurses workin within our local hospitals such as patient malnutrician, patient neglect and infection control.... but instead people are going out of their way to try get the girls in the calendar nothin less then sacked or thrown off their courses when, actually in "reality" they will be hard working, damn good nurses/student nurses/NHS workers. Its pathetic. There are much more serious issues that need looking at.

i am a fellow nurse and cant believe that they think so little of themselves....3 years training, for what? how to look sexy. and as for miss april claire i wouldnt want her nursing me ever she loves herself

There are so many negatives in britain today what is wrong with these pics?. I am a nurse with a degree a degree that I worked dam hard for. We work extremly long hard hours, with little gratitude. Nursing is an empathic profession but what you do in your private life has nothing to do with how you care for your pts. Well done to these girls for having the guts to do this. My partner loves seeing me in my uniform, it dosnt stop me giving my pts the best care they require. Lifes to short so all you negatives out there get a life and stop moping.
By Dawn. Posted October 21 2008 at 8:28 AM.
Well what can we say if nurses do this its so unprofessional they need the sack if there real nurses they need a disciplinary hearing for unprofessional conduct and if student nurses they need to be thrown out im affraid its terrible.
By lady trucker . Posted October 20 2008 at 11:03 PM.
why dont they make a bit extra money and be hookers too? better pay than nurses.
By anon. Posted October 20 2008 at 7:09 PM.
its disgusting, if ya wanna be a stripper go and get a job in liverpool clubs. supposed to be caring not sharing....!!!!
By anon. Posted October 20 2008 at 7:08 PM.
A bit of fun great...but what about us that are serious about the profession? Don't rub it in saying you are real NHS Nurses, as the NHS won't stand for behaviour like this. Caring about pts doesn't mean stripping off!
By Sara. Posted October 20 2008 at 6:46 PM.
I'm a nurse and I'd love to do a calendar like this!
I'm disappointed at the people, and fellow nurses, who say this makes a mockery of our profession. Calendars are not real life!!! It's not like the nurses (although I doubt they are nurses, but rather HCAs due to the NMC code of conduct business) in this calendar actually care for patients with their boobs hanging out, or their tunic halfway up their backside!
People should stop taking themselves so seriously. Professionalism is for work!
And just think of how a calendar like this could benefit charities etc! It could raise thousands of pounds.
Although I reckon I could've done a better job at designing it...the photos are a bit drab! Where are the rubber gloves (ooh err!) and some novelty syringes being aimed at bottoms.
By Isabelle. Posted October 20 2008 at 5:25 PM.
that Rachel should be a p3 model never mind a nurse. ooo eerrrrrr missis.
By george. Posted October 20 2008 at 4:51 PM.
All i can say is....expect to hear from the NMC as they are aware of this already. It's concerning to see that "student" nurses are bringing a caring profession into disrepute by doing this.
By Concerned. Posted October 20 2008 at 4:11 PM.
ha! i used to work with miss december
By scott conroy. Posted October 20 2008 at 12:12 AM.
Nothing wrong with it, it shows that some nurses can be fun and not all boring like the ones here moaning about it, go on girls is what I say.
They aren't doing it on the job so they should be free to do what they want to do outside of work, how can they be fired for living their lives and doing what they want to do.
No job can control what you do 24/7
By Jimmy. Posted October 19 2008 at 7:58 PM.
I can't believe all the negative comments these beautiful nurses are getting. Some people really should get a life and lighten up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
By Kevin. Posted October 19 2008 at 6:33 PM.
WLM - Please please please explain to me why you feel they are being disrespectful, esp to you because maybe I'm missing something here but what exact harm are they doing??
If this national newspaper can see fit to run the story then it has certainly got to be for a very good reason and its pretty simple... To cheer us all up and have a bit of FUN??!!
No wonder people hate going into hospitals with depressive, moaning busy-bodies like yourself stalking the wards policing out any enjoyment that may be had to any of your (unfortunate) patients.
And this was written from the comments made by 3 close family members who are all nurses. Please lighten up and take it for what it was meant and plant your tongue firmly in cheek??!!
By Tom. Posted October 19 2008 at 4:58 PM.
omg this is a bit pathetic dont you think the girls look stunnin and have every rite do do wat they are doing its called fun you might exspeariance it one day
By conor. Posted October 19 2008 at 5:19 PM.
Good on you girls!!!
Well done for taking the plunge and showing everyone that public sector workers know how to have a bit of fun and don't take themselves too seriously.
You all look fantastic - I know I'd feel much happier being treated in a hospital by you guys! Much rather that than the misery-guts commenting below anyway...
By Bob. Posted October 19 2008 at 2:49 PM.
we ask to be treated with respect, would like to see how they are treated by a drunked patient who has seen the pictures
By WLM. Posted October 19 2008 at 2:22 PM.
ohhh my god why is it that everyone is going mad about it firemen do one ?????
By carisse. Posted October 19 2008 at 1:09 PM.
Oh hark at the PC brigade below?!
Mark you are spot on and hit the nail right on the head, my partner is a nurse as is my sister and brother in law and I speak for all of them who think this is great for the NHS as it brightens a day in an otherwise current gloomy profession just now.
Please get a life and take it for the fun it was intended and stop being so repressive and PC.
By Tom. Posted October 19 2008 at 11:40 AM.
Can not be a real registered nurse as not on the professional nurse register, perhaps a health care assistant?
By smith. Posted October 19 2008 at 11:41 AM.
Not a very professional way to behave, is it? Not if they want to be taken seriously.
By Emmy. Posted October 19 2008 at 11:34 AM.
Why should it matter? The nurses are underpaid so surely this will help in their need? Dont know what all the fuss is about. Catherine, i really cant see what your jumping on your high horse about, its only a little fun. The fireman do it so why shouldnt the nurses. Half of the women who are moaning are either jealous, femanist through and through, or just plain awful that no one would want to view them! Not being sexist just facts. Before you start, the wife is a nurse and she too cant see what the fuss is about. Naked or completly topless then yes, different story. Only a bit of extra pocket money which you all deserve. Instead of suspending these nurses, if in fact they are, why dont we just get of one more consultant and pass the extra money onto you girls and lads so that people wouldnt have to pose for calendars? Is that a better idea?
By mark. Posted October 19 2008 at 10:26 AM.
Ooh nurse, I've got a slight swelling!
By Dean Baker. Posted October 19 2008 at 10:00 AM.
If they are real nurses, they will face disciplinary hearings for unprofessional conduct.
By roger. Posted October 19 2008 at 9:53 AM.
Thay cant be real nurses? if thay are then thay wont be for much longer. You are cant do that if you are a nurse, im a student nurse and we are told over and over againe about the code of conduct. You can not act in that manner if you are a real nurse, if you want to do things like that then you are not a proffesinal nurse.
By cassandra thompson. Posted October 19 2008 at 9:24 AM.
Doesn't the NMC have something to say about this?!
By Stephanie Anne. Posted October 19 2008 at 8:52 AM.
They obviously aren't real nurses.... Real intelligent nurses wouldn't risk getting the sack for bringing the profession into disrepute. Nurses have to adhere to a code of conduct placed by the NMC [Nursing &Midwifery council] .So all out of a job now then????? Why train for three years plus to lose your job over a calender?
By debs. Posted October 19 2008 at 8:39 AM.
Makes a complete mockery of our profession.
