PRINCE WILLIAM is taking girlfriend Kate Middleton to Balmoral to meet the Queen, fuelling speculation they may soon marry.

It is the first time she has been invited to the Queen's traditional break at the Highland retreat.

William, who is 27 today, plans to spend the August bank holiday weekend there with Kate.

Her meeting with the Queen and Prince Philip will be seen as significant.

She met the Queen at her grandson Peter Philip's wedding to Autumn Kelly last May. But the fact that she has been invited to Balmoral, during a royal shoot, will be seen as important. A source told us: "Kate loves shooting so she will fit in well with the Royal Family. She will take it in her stride."

William was celebrating his birthday with Kate, also 27, at his father Prince Charles' Highgrove estate in Gloucestershire. The pair have kept a low profile recently as Wills trains to become a full-time RAF pilot.

But in May they were pictured together for the first time in five months. They looked closer than ever as Wills, in a rare public display of affection, put his arm around Kate at a polo match.

Bookie William Hill is offering odds of 2-1 ON that they will get engaged this year.

What does Laura mean that Prince William is 'damaged goods' because his Mother died? He is a person not a parcel!

By Daphne. Posted July 23 2009 at 10:42 AM.

Her parents are self-made and all credit to them for it. I've bought from party pieces and the service is excellent and prompt!

As for William, he is damaged goods losing his mother when he did. It is great to see him happy and as we all know from the funeral if any arms could have given him lasting comfort we all approve. And now it has come to pass.

There is a very snobish element out there who hates the ideas of KM marring him but hey get over yourselves, this is the 21st century, nothing is for certain as it wasn't for his parents but Love, that is his right and her right - leave them alone.

Wow. I feel sorry for William. Life in a royal goldfish bowl. Huge decision to make about his future. History of his parents' marriage as a backdrop. And everyone's nose in his business. You know what? I think William is probably very eager to "get it right." If he gets it wrong, it will be a tragedy. Let him do his thing. And all of those who knock Kate around in these postings -- when was the last time you got together with the girl for lunch or dinner or a chat on the phone. You don't know her. Amazing that so many of you spout news press as your "reasons" for wanting to see William avoid marrying Kate. When William marries, whether it is this girl or another, I will be cheering, and hoping in my heart that he has "got it right" because I really do wish him happiness and success. Wow. What a concept!

am not sure they will get married just yet. they should take as much time as they want anyway. i do wish for william to take the crown over charles tho hes much much more responsible i think. happy birthday to you william!

By louise roder. Posted June 22 2009 at 10:04 PM.

I certainly think it would be great if they did marry soon. I just hope if they do marry that William treats Kate better than Charles treated Diana. On one hand, if Diana had REALLY listened to what Charles said when asked if they were in love...his comment was "whatever in love means", she might still be alive today, but then we wouldn't have this big strapping image of Diana here today. Both William and Harry need to "grow up", stop the partying and show they are dedicated to the memory of their mother, and to their royal duties.
I wish them both well, should they indeed marry.

By Faith. Posted June 22 2009 at 1:53 PM.

If William really wanted to marry Kate, he would have done so by now. Everyone knows what eventually happens to couples who date for years and years and then marry - they don't last. Why? Because while they may love eachother, they are not in love with eachother (or atleast one of the two is not) and anyone who waits is hesitating because he is not 100% sure of the girl he is with. Simple as that. If William has not decided after this long that Kate is the one, he needs to let her go and date other girls until he meets the right one. He will know it straight away. Yes, he has Royal responsibility and is busy with his career etc and that takes up a lot of his time. And also, people are marrying older these days but surely they would atleast have gotten engaged by now. William could do better and I think deep inside, he knows it. It takes a special girl to be a princess. He might feel obligated to her know after all this time, but if he has doubts, it is far better for him to deal with them now than later on.

Hahahahaha. I'm not betting this year. But best wishes to Wills this birthday.

By yv. Posted June 21 2009 at 11:59 PM.

I really don't understand the vicious attacks on Ms. Middleton. None of us know anything about her. She is discreet and apparently loyal, as are those she is surrounded by. She will be an asset to the royal family.

By Aisha. Posted June 21 2009 at 10:40 PM.

Who are we to decide who is or isn't suitable Royal material?? I'd rather Kate than some snooty
upperclass false socialite. William and Kate are clearly very much in love, and that is a great foundation for a marriage, rather than just marrying someone from the "right" family. Kate has dealt with the media attention with class and grace, and has supported William for a very long time. Money grabbing? She could have married anyone else if she was just after money. Being a Royal is a much bigger responsibility than being a WAG of some footballer/sportsman (well they've got money too). I just hope Kate knows the kind of partnership she has got herself into. Her life will not be easy being married to Prince William.

By Suzanne. Posted June 21 2009 at 10:30 PM.

Why did she bother going to uni only to help out with the tacky family business selling princess parties. A waste of a degree. Poor old England, another royal on the taxpayers payroll.

By Alex . Posted June 21 2009 at 9:11 PM.

Most of you really are coming across as bitter and pathetic! The royal family costs about 67p per person per year - good value for money when contrasted with the international wealth generated for Britain by us HAVING a royal family! Let William marry her if he wants to. She may not be aristocratic by birth, but if he did marry an aristocrat, you'd all be attacking him for being elitist. As for marriages not working in the royal family, show me a British family where divorce doesn't happen! Let them be happy. I for one can't wait for a good royal wedding.

By Ben . Posted June 21 2009 at 8:14 PM.

Did you ever stop to think that William is trying to protect Kate from the rage of the media as his mother once had to face when she became engaged to Prince Charles? As far as Kate becoming queen, better than Camilla. God save The Queen. I still believe The Queen Mother was the most royal of them all. As for the current royal family, except The Queen, out of step with reality.

happy birthday to prince william.

Happy Birthday William XXXXXXXXXXXXXX

By Lorna Wanstall. Posted June 21 2009 at 7:36 PM.

Good luck to them. If they do decide to get married I hope they have happiness together.

It is sad though that they will look to the public purse to fund their wedding. I would vote instantly for a Republic but for the prospect of getting President Blair.

What a dilemma.

By Ian. Posted June 21 2009 at 5:20 PM.

Firstly, Joan,....Diana most certainly did NOT have a low profile, she was the worst offender of them all. As for Kate Middleton, you only know of what the media have forced you to believe. It is almost as though the public want her to fail.
The Monarchy is your heritage, be proud of it, support it, don't condem it on heresay from the nasty newspapers.

By Kate. Posted June 21 2009 at 4:40 PM.

It's time UK got rid of them all and their hangers on. They are an anachronism like the hereditary peers. There is no place for them in modern society.

By MMCW. Posted June 21 2009 at 3:42 PM.

I suggest people leave william and kate alone

and let them make their own choice. After 8 years

they know their own minds. Good Luck to them both.

By June. Posted June 21 2009 at 2:24 PM.

I'm not sure that the parasitic royals will continue to be financed by the public once the Queen has gone. She is the one who is holding them together. William and Harry are pretend servicemen who appear to come and go when they like. The young princesses, Eugenie and Beatrix are simply mega-expensive wasters who already have cost us a massive amount of money in security alone. Let's never forget that the name Windsor was chosen to detract us from their Saxe-Coburg family name.
The country can no longer afford this bunch of delude people who believe them selves to be superior beings.

By George. Posted June 21 2009 at 2:15 PM.

If William marries that money grabbing trout, we should abolish the monarchy. She auditioned for that job Apprentice style at University, I hope it was worth your dignity KAte.

By Jan. Posted June 21 2009 at 12:44 PM.

I agree with Liz, Kate, Linda, Tricia etc ....
Kate Middleton is a DISASTER waiting to happen. The British Royal family has class and she has none of those. Miss Kate and family is drawing too much attention for themselves, eg. wearing princess hats to sell party favours etc. Diana, Sophie, Amber and the rugby player all kept/keep a low profile. Kate is a BIG time wannabe. She is LAZY. Wills, you would dissapoint your mother greatly if you marry this woman.

By Joan. Posted June 21 2009 at 12:57 PM.

Yes and if they get married, we the tax payer will have to foot the bill. Let the lazy cows family pay. The marriage will not last, they never do with this family. People can say what they like about the late Princess Diana but at least she was a worker not like the Duchess of Cornwall who does very little expect sit on her fat a--e. Miss Middleton will be the same. She certainly has her feet under the table.

By Thomas. Posted June 21 2009 at 1:12 PM.

I think she is wonderful and am getting tired of sloaney types being jealous. As for those that say she is not royal material - do you mean you need to be aristocracy for a royal to fall in love with you? I think not. I think the nation will warm to her if she is given half a chance.

By Christine. Posted June 21 2009 at 12:04 PM.

Hard to warm to Kate Middleton. She looks sort of corporate. She has no identity. And she has a mother who thought chewing gum at a formal military event with cameras on her was appropriate behaviour. Sophie has an identity. She ran a PR company and shows us a personality. Chelsy Davy has an identity. She is a brainy girl with an aura of warm charm about her. And her personality is something you can see openly. And she has dignity. Really sorry she is not with Harry any more.

To justify having Royalty there has to be a clear sense of understanding and portrayal of "the role". It is a formal, figurehead life in a goldfish bowl and it signals to the world an idealised picture of how Britain wants to be seen. It involves the sense of a country that has a past, a present and a future. Solid and continuing.

Princess Diana (her insane love life and eurotrash tendencies apart) understood to perfection how to stand on a pedestal and represent Britain.

Prince Charles has steadfastly promoted the green message (killing animals apart and shame on him), has taken a special interest in what Britain looks like and how its architectural identity can be spared the savage greed of developers and the career chasing, selfish, name-making creative contortions of architects. Hurrah! And he has never been tempted to climb out of the goldfish bowl and party on with the chavs.

What will Kate DO that we will respect and want to see taxes paid to support?

By Tallulah. Posted June 21 2009 at 11:29 AM.

Can't we just get rid of them all?

By Lolly. Posted June 21 2009 at 11:28 AM.

God what a load of nasty people you are. Would hate to be any friend of yours, nasty minds the lot of you. Leave them alone.

By Jackie. Posted June 21 2009 at 11:13 AM.

Do not care one way or the other.........but who pays for the ridiculous wedding? After all this time though,he does not seem to be bothered,if he was sure he would have married her ages ago!

By Helen Faulkes. Posted June 21 2009 at 11:03 AM.

Kate Middleton and her mama are not social climbers, they are social mountaineers. William needs to meet other potential brides before he decides whether to settle on this one.

By CrystalClear. Posted June 21 2009 at 10:51 AM.

Not keen on Kate becoming Queen at all but would prefer a Queen Kate to a Queen Camilla. Camilla is a lazy old hag who despite being born into a renouned family always comes across like a well dressed bag lady. I will never understand what Charles saw/sees in her she is vile.

By Kate. Posted June 21 2009 at 10:50 AM.

She will fit very well into this family from hell. She as never done a days work in her life. Like the Duchess of Cornwall she will be able to swan around doing nothing. When anything happens to the queen, we should do away with the monarchy. They are parasites in society.

By Jonathan. Posted June 21 2009 at 10:11 AM.

Who would people prefer? A Diana clone? Leave them alone to do their own thing.

By Alan Malan. Posted June 21 2009 at 9:51 AM.

I hope they get married. They are a lovely couple and they are very much in love

By Yolanda. Posted June 21 2009 at 8:32 AM.

NO!!!!!! We do not want this lazy, useless, talentless, pointless parasite of a woman to be in our Royal Family.

This money-hungry hanger-on has shown herself to be everything the modern British woman should NOT be. She's not done a single day's work in her pathetic life, she lives off her parents and she's in her mid 20's and she prances around London as if she's achieved something. She hasn't achieved a thing in her life!

By James. Posted June 21 2009 at 8:52 AM.

None of you really know Kate Middleton so why are you being so mean about her?

You're only believing what you read in the press.

By JO. Posted June 21 2009 at 8:38 AM.

Who cares???? Are we going to allow the media to create another monster marriage and soap opera starring the disfunctional Windsors??? Let them live their Hooray-Henry privileged lives in obscurity

By CaptCamshaft. Posted June 21 2009 at 8:39 AM.

I think they make a great couple and kate will be good for william
she has never spoken out of turn or put a foot wrong and she is more mature and worldly-wise than was Diana when she married Charles.

By liz. Posted June 21 2009 at 7:53 AM.

This is a future Divorce waiting to happen.
She has stuck to William like glue since he was out of his teens. He needs to get out in the world a bit more and date a few others, before he decides to settle down and marry.
Kate and her mother are in love with social climbing and making Kate Queen.
I can't imagine the Middleton family running the House of Windsor, which they eventually will if William marries Kate.

By kara . Posted June 21 2009 at 6:47 AM.

The love between these two is very obvious and they have come a long way. Kate deal with a great deal of pressure and criticism from the media and even bloggers but she handles everything with lots of grace. William is a very lucky guy and I hope they marry next year. Go William and Kate, I'm behind you all the way.

By Richard. Posted June 21 2009 at 5:52 AM.

Just leave them alone! They are old enough to know their own minds if they want to marry, or not. Kate seems a lovely lady and supports William.
He is a lucky man and his family do not want him to undetake the same mistakes his mother and father made. Good luck to them both His mother, Diana, would be so proud of him.

By Julie. Posted June 21 2009 at 5:40 AM.

A year from now they will be engaged and planning a wedding - or even having one in June. If not, it will end because I doubt Kate will wait past William's 28th.

By Chris. Posted June 21 2009 at 4:55 AM.

THEY WILL NEVER EVER GET ENGAGED NOT EVEN THIS YEAR & NOT EVEN OTHER YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NEVER!!!!!

By Lucy. Posted June 21 2009 at 4:03 AM.

I think the Royal Blood has been enriched with enough trailer trash over the last twenty years. Time to marry another Greek girl I think that way Thick curly locks will be reintroduced into the male line. No more Bobby Charlton comb overs.

By David. Posted June 21 2009 at 2:56 AM.

I agree. Ms, Middleton is NOT royal material.
The bar could have been risen much higher had William chosen correctly..

By Kate. Posted June 21 2009 at 2:26 AM.

Willliam should not marry Kate. She simply does not have the class to be a Princess. She and her pushy mother and sister Pippa are as common as muck. Kate will turn out to be another Fergie.

By Victoria Kerst (English Expat). Posted June 21 2009 at 1:30 AM.

Sorry, I can't stand her or her pushy mother. But it was only last week that I read William did not want to be photographed with her in order to "avoid the dreaded engagement rumours." That sounds like he has no intention whatsoever of marrying this woman, surely he would have done it years ago if he really wanted to. So why can't the media give it a rest and stop trying to force him into it?

By Cabbage. Posted June 21 2009 at 12:46 AM.

I agree with the comment about shooting from Tricia. If Wills is in love with her and she him then good luck,to them both, she will need it as love was not enough for his mum. Wills please don't let the "Establishment" rule your life. Do your duty but remember your wife and that you have a life together it should not be all about your duties.

By Claire. Posted June 21 2009 at 12:36 AM.

I hope they get married eventually. It's obviously true love or they wouldn't have lasted for 8 years.

The media have tarnished her with an unfair reputation and I for one believe we should give her the benefit of the doubt.

By Lizzie. Posted June 21 2009 at 12:30 AM.

I hope they do, I am so bored of this story. Sad they have to kill animals for pleasure - they must have empty lives.

By Linda. Posted June 21 2009 at 12:11 AM.

I bet she didn't "love shooting" until it was necessary to bag a prince. How can we possibly respect such a cruel and out of touch couple? With Charles interfering with architecture which is none of his business, a republic can't come soon enough.

By Tricia. Posted June 20 2009 at 11:53 PM.

sorry am not keen on her media profile she seems far too manipulative.

not a good role model
