Louse of Commons | Gordon Brown's pal Nigel Griffiths cheats on wife on Remembrance Day in House of Commons

Remembrance Day, 11.35pm: MP Griffiths is having sex with naked brunette in his Parliament office

Image Flag

A SENIOR Labour MP cheated on his wife in a midnight sex romp INSIDE the House of Commons.

Former minister Nigel Griffiths, a close friend of Prime Minister Gordon Brown, cavorted with a naked brunette in his Parliamentary office on Remembrance Day.

Then the shamed MP, 53, LIED about the shock breach of Commons Rules of Conduct, branding our story "outrageous." Now he stands accused of bringing the House into disrepute.

Griffiths could not have chosen a more shameful date for his sordid House of Commons sex romp- Remembrance Day.

On the very day Britain was honouring its fallen heroes, Griffiths-a former Deputy Leader of the House-dishonoured the Mother of Parliaments and disgraced his privileged position.

The married MP, for whom the PM was best man, smuggled a brunette into his oak-panelled study and cavorted with the naked woman on his sofa.

The pair even recorded their hour-long encounter on camera.

Blatant

One shot, which appeared in the print edition of the News of the World, plainly shows a numbered doorkey in a lock, with the label clearly marked 'POW'-Palace of Westminster.

The lovers then moved on to another London location where Griffiths also stripped off and joined the girl in a variety of sex acts.

The MP's outrageous behaviour on November 11-the 90th anniversary of the signing of the First World War armistice-was a blatant breach of the strict Parliamentary Code of Conduct.

OLD BUDDIES: Gordon Brown on campaign trail supporting former flatmate Griffiths
OLD BUDDIES: Gordon Brown on campaign trail supporting former flatmate Griffiths

The code lays down "guidance on the standards of conduct expected of Members in discharging their parliamentary and public duties".

Clause 15 decrees: "Members shall at all times conduct themselves in a manner which will tend to maintain and strengthen the public's trust and confidence in the integrity of Parliament and never undertake any action which would bring the House of Commons, or its members generally, into disrepute."

And as a high-ranking MP with 22 years representing Edinburgh South - including two spells in Tony Blair's government as Under Secretary of State at the Department for Trade and Industry AND two years as Deputy Leader of the House - he would have been in no doubt about the risks he was taking.

WHAT A RAT: After 30 years' marriage Griffiths betrayed wife Sally in his office
WHAT A RAT: After 30 years' marriage Griffiths betrayed wife Sally in his office

Griffiths - so highly connected he was one of the few British politicians invited to US President Barack Obama's January inauguration - now faces a possible charge of bringing the House of Commons into disrepute and could be suspended.

After 30 years' marriage his wife Sally will have questions, too.

Despite our solid photographic evidence, published in the print edition of the News of the World, Griffiths tried to lie his way out of trouble when we put the scandal to him.

Ironically he is a respected member of the Commons Public Accounts Committee, scrutinising the way government handles its finances.

And Griffiths' repeated denials of misconduct come as another Commons committee is considering "Press Standards, Privacy and Libel" amid speculation that Parliament might introduce tough new privacy laws.

Such legislation could mean that newspapers who expose errant MPs misbehaving in their private life would be PROSECUTED.

Interestingly, Griffiths, a university buddy and one-time flatmate of Gordon Brown, has championed the cause of "family friendly" working hours at the House of Commons.

But his family and colleagues will be sickened to learn how he CHOSE to stay late at his desk on Tuesday November 11, 2008, just to cheat on his loyal wife-and to capture the scene in pornographic photos.

The pictures, published in the print edition of the News of the World, dated by the camera's digital clock, show Griffiths and the brunette taking part in sex games from 11.35pm to 12.33am, early on Wedenesday November 12.

One shot reveals the woman in a pair of black stockings and G-string. She then sits and kneels on the standard green House of Commons sofa-next to a litter bin containing a file marked 'Confidential' and bearing the MP's name.

The file is from the influential Public Accounts Select Committee.

Also in shot is a side-table with a 1970s style ball-bearing ornament. And there are books on the history of art, Oriental painting and the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain.

Trouble

The final photos from Griffiths' office show his lover getting dressed again in high-heeled boots, blouse and black skirt.

She moves behind a cupboard door and poses for the camera, thrusting a stockinged leg into view.

In the background the distinctive arched doorway to Griffiths' room is clearly shown. Just 32 minutes later, the camera captures the pair again-with date and time-in another location, probably a flat nearby.

Now the brunette lies naked on a rug placed on the wooden floor. Smoking a cigar and looking at a laptop computer screen, her dark hair is tossed over her shoulders.

The porno picture session continues until 2.24am. At one point Griffiths is seen naked and smirking as he lies back and puffs on a cigar.

When we visited Griffiths at his office in the heart of the House of Commons on Friday, March 6, to confront him the setting was already completely familiar to us from the Remembrance Day pictures.

There was the sturdy oak door framed by its elegant arch, the panelled walls, the green sofa, the side-table with ornament, the plush carpet and bookcase near the door.

But when asked about his secret sex session astonishingly Griffiths chose to brazen it out by denying everything and storming: "Absolutely groundless!"

We asked if he wanted time to think over his response before committing himself on the record. He replied: "No, I don't need time to think about it."

When we pointed out we had incontrovertible evidence, he claimed: "Fabricated evidence! You must have some fabricated evidence! Outrageous! Absolutely outrageous!"

He then said he needed to "take counsel." But 16 days later we have yet to hear from his lawyer.

In the meantime we have offered Griffiths numerous opportunities to respond to our story but his only reply has been a text message saying: "I have nothing to add to the statement I gave you. NG."

It's not the first time Griffiths has been in trouble.

In 2002 a Commons standards committee found he had been claiming £10,000 a year expenses, since 1997, for rent on an Edinburgh office that he he OWNED outright.

It emerged the money had been paid into a trust fund he set up for his autistic sister Hilary, 56.

Griffiths also failed to disclose the £227,000 fortune left to him by his late father.

But despite the complaint being upheld, and Tory calls for him to resign, no further action was taken after Gordon Brown, Chancellor at the time, waded in on his pal's behalf.

But today's revelations will severely embarrass Griffiths' old chum. For the disgraced MP has often been wheeled out by Number 10 to defend the Premier.

Antics

His most recent display of loyalty came last month after Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson apologised for branding the PM a "one-eyed Scottish idiot".

Griffiths stormed: "He should give a more fulsome apology, especially for commenting on somebody's disability."

In the 2005 election Gordon Brown was quoted on Griffiths' campaign literature, endorsing him as "an outstanding MP and one of our most effective ministers".

By the book: Griffiths broke MP's strict conduct code

Brown added: "I look forward to working even more closely with Nigel in the future." Griffiths has been regarded as a respected pillar of government north of the border. Until today.

His appalling Remembrance Day antics could now trigger his downfall.

If a complaint is received from any member of the public the Speaker of the Commons will launch an inquiry.

Griffiths will then be summoned before him to explain his actions and could face suspension from the House.

His conduct will also shock constituents and his local party in Edinburgh where he holds a slim majority of 405.

It could trigger moves to deselect him as candidate at the next election.

Look on the bright side.

At least the taxpayer didn't get stuck with having to pay for an hotel room for his performance.

Well done that man you will certainly be having my vote at the next election and as a grandson and son of first and second world war survivors I can say with complete impunity that they both would have totally apprioved of your own special little tribute to the true spunky British spirit in the face of overwhelming opposition.Good Show!

so what? a guy is having sex at his office, got caught and like in most businesses he will get a minor disciplinary action. I am not British but given the state of the British economy (and the rest of the world, btw) there are more important issues right now than having the government dealing with this.

The taxpayer is responsible for all their needs and
even lie to fill their pockets with more cash. And they had the cheek telling the former RBS executive to pay back his pension that is considered too much.
What a CHEEK from a bunch of moronic idiots, who uses parliament as a GET-ME RICH OVERNIGHT department.

All who vote cameron and co. will face the same.
Time for a governnment that stops immigration in the face of incomers taking jobs that belong to Brits. Re patriate all who do not belong here. Stop benefits to young people who have not paid anything into the system . Stop giving 16 year old girls flats and money just because they opened their legs.
The list goes on.
Just who will rectify this situation???????
Certainly not those in power at present

By Ron Roy Chalack.. Posted March 23 2009 at 1:40 AM.

The only thing on Blairs, Browns and Presscotts agenda was to bring Britain to it's knee's, and they have done it with flying colours. Pat on the back old chaps.
Let me line my pockets, whilst I fleece urs.
What will happen with this latest own goal. SWEET F.A

Clearly the emotional build up to Rembrance Day is something MP's find diffcult to cope with and justifies MP's letting off a bit of steam after the event. This is what, at least, John Prescott would argue after, I recall, reading allegations about John Prescott having a simialr dalliance after a Remberance service.
