Gary Pennant, 44, sold drugs from his tower-block council flat in Nottingham to our investigations editor Mazher Mahmood.
You can watch excerpts from the video that nailed him by clicking on our player.
Gary Pennant - who sold three wraps of crack and one of heroin worth a total of £35 - was described as "a hopeless drug addict" by Judge David Price.
He had convictions for drugs, violence, theft, arson and resisting arrest stretching back 28 years, Nottingham Crown Court was told.

Judge Price said: "Anyone selling drugs must realise that a custodial sentence of some length must follow. You had access to a supply of drugs which you were willing to sell to all-comers.
"It is clear you were letting others use your flat to inject themselves with drugs."
Police have praised the News of the World following our investigation.
Detective Sergeant Neil Fountain, who investigated the case, said: "We are pleased that Gary Pennant has been sentenced and hope this sends out a clear message that drug dealing will be investigated and those responsible put before the courts.

"In this case the News of the World brought Pennant's drug activity to our attention, and enabled us to conduct a thorough investigation. We would like to thank them and hope this encourages the public to come forward with information about others dealing drugs that cause misery within their community."
The sentence came 11 days after ram-raiders tried to smash into the home of Liverpool footballer Jermaine.
