THE QUEEN has called in a team of top Royal mandarins dubbed the Three Wise Men to knock Wills into shape as a king in waiting.
She has asked career diplomat Sir David Manning, her former private secretary Lord Janvrin and her new top aide Christopher Geidt to sharpen up her grandson's public performance.
She wants to build on William's recent success on a tour Down Under, so he can become Britain's roving royal ambassador.
Wills meanwhile has promised to work twice as hard so he can continue his career as an RAF rescue pilot AND fly the flag for Queen and country.
A source told the News of the World: "Things have moved up a notch or two.
"William rose to the occasion in New Zealand and Australia. It gave him a real sense of purpose and raised the profile of Britain and the monarchy across the world.
Duty
"He is determined to play down talk of him being a shadow king - his father has that job after all. But he knows he has a royal duty and will work shifts back to back with the RAF so he has the time to carry out Royal visits and duties."
Her Majesty wants the three wise men to improve William's public speaking - as it is felt he needs to talk more slowly and clearly.
They must also ensure the 6ft 3ins Prince has the right knowledge and equipment - even small things like having a lectern that's high enough.
Manning will teach him about diplomacy and world affairs, Janvrin will cover his charity role, and Geidt will lecture on strategy and how the monarchy functions.
But they have to be careful he doesn't eclipse Charles. Our source said: "It is a difficult balancing act.
"We've never had a monarch, an heir to the throne and the second in line to the throne all competing before."
Wills's next big outing is to South Africa for the World Cup on June 18.

Prince William had the best teacher any lad could have,his mother. If he is anything like her he will do well. That is providing the firm, as his mothercalled them dont manage to destroy the good work Diana did. She brought light and laughter into the windsor family. I hope the two lads can follow in her footsteps. otherwise the windsor family are doomed, left to rot in the history books,probably in a German library

Fair comment, @Chris. As a teenager he was good looking. I think the 'hunk' image that stemmed from that time has outlasted the looks themselves.
