MP Iris Robinson had her membership of the Democratic Unionist Party terminated after handing £50,000 in "donations" to Kirk McCambley to launch his own cafe.
Mrs Robinson, 60, could leave Westminster and her seat on the Northern Ireland Assembly next week after it emerged she obtained £50,000 from two property developers to help Mr McCambley set up the business in her Belfast constituency.
But when her affair with her then 19-year-old lover soured she demanded the funds back in two cheques - one to her and another to her church.

A party source said: "There was no question that she had to go, and now. There was no sympathy for the position she found herself in."
Mr Robinson, 61, was last night fighting for his political future after insisting he didn't know about his wife's irregular financial dealings with Mr McCambley, now 21. He has ordered an official inquiry into his own conduct.
Northern Ireland Secretary Shaun Woodward told BBC Radio 4's Today programme the DUP leader must be given the chance to clear his name.
