Family pay respects to soldier killed on New Years Eve
SOLDIER - David Watson
THE devastated family of a bomb disposal expert killed on New Year's Eve paid tribute to the "man mountain" hero last night.
Sapper David Watson, 23, on his first tour of Afghanistan, died from his wounds after a roadside bomb exploded in Sangin.
His proud family said in a statement: "He lived his dream and did what a true soldier is ready to do for his country. A true hero."
David, of Whickham, Newcastle, joined the 33 Engineer Regiment in 2007 and was named the top student in paratrooper training. His Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Gareth Bex said: "If ever there was a man born for soldiering it was him."
