Brian, 66, from Northampton, was diagnosed with mouth cancer in June.
A scan then revealed a tumour had wrapped itself around the vital arteries in his neck. "I had to tell my wife Susan and my four children I was going to die. It was hell," said Brian.
He was given a year to live, but treated with 11 days of radiotherapy.
At best doctors hoped the tumour might shrink, but a scan three weeks ago found no trace of it.
Brian said: "I'll make the most of every day. I've been given a brilliant Christmas gift, a second chance."
