Prince Harry's war over

Young royal WON'T be going back to Afghanistan

PRINCE HARRY'S dream of a return to front-line duty in Afghanistan has been dashed.

Army top brass say sending the prince to war is now "virtually impossible".

Taliban infiltration of the Afghan police force would make it impossible to keep the prince's presence secret, putting Harry and his comrades in danger.

DREAMS: Harry in combat zone

One military source told us: "Getting Harry back on the front line is certainly not a priority right now. The situation there is extremely volatile and an operation involving the third in line to the throne would require a lot of planning and secrecy."

Another high-ranking Whitehall source told us: "The negatives of his redeployment far outway the positives. It is not on the agenda."

Harry, a lieutenant in the Blues and Royals, is currently taking military helicopter training. In 2007, he spent ten weeks as a forward air controller directing jets dropping bombs on Taliban positions in Helmand province.

When Harry was in Afghanistan he was treated like any other soldier. He was forced to dive for cover once as a rocket exploded just 50 yards away from him.

A news blackout on the posting was broken by an Australian magazine and then a US internet site and Harry was forced to return to Britain in late February last year.

The decision is a blow to Harry. After his tour was cut short, he said: "I would love to go back out."

MEANWHILE brother William took Kate Middleton to the Queen's country house this weekend - with Her Majesty's royal seal of approval.

Wills, 27, was given the run of his gran's 600-acre Sandringham estate in Norfolk for a shooting party and girlfriend Kate was top of the guest list.

As much as I support the enthusiasm of Harry to serve his country and be treated as a 'normal' human being, I have to agree with the decision that has been made to not have him return to theatre.
The risk to our troops is already high and with recent events of infiltration into the ANP I can see no other option.
With my husband working alongside the ANP I would be in an even worse emotional state if that risk was made greater by the presence of Harry.
This has been taken out of his control and I feel sorry for him not being able to lead his men as he was trained to do but the safety of other needs to be put first.

I'm really disappointed with the negative attitudes some of you people have...

It is not a question of him not wanting to go and for those of you who suggest he wouldn't want it to interfere with his night life obviously don't have close family in the armed forces as I do and can't see the situation for what it really is, protecting all of the OTHER troops.

Due to the infiltration of terrorists into the Afgan Police Force it would result in anyone working alongside Harry in even MORE danger than they currently are.

Why on earth would some of you people want our troops to become even more of a target? You should be ashamed of yourselves, it has nothing to do with him being 'better' than us or 'to important to send' of 'it would affect his social life'.

It is about trying to protect our troops...

Some of you people just dont have a clue do you. Harry wants to go and has already been out in theatre. The problem is he's a member of the royal family and if anything happened to him the taliban would have their biggest recruitment drive ever. He wants to do his job and lead his platoon and i agree keeping him on rear party. Not everyone in a battalion can deploy on ops and some are needed to stay at home. So get off the wee mans back he's more a man than any of you snivelling civvies will ever be.

If it is ok for our boys to be there then it should be the same for him. Wouldn't it be great if we had the choice to pull our own boys out if it is too dangerous for them. Oh it is as it's a war!!! Send him and give him the same chances as our lads but I bet he will have all the proper equipment. He can either be Royal or a Soldier not both. God be with those real soldiers out there fighting with out the proper protection and without the easy escape of having a royal parent. What is good for the goose is good for the gander.

If he cant fight, kick him out and get him a cupcake making job instead. The army would do with someone else to replace him and can fight.

It is quite stupid of people to suggest he is shirking his duty, he wants to go but it has already been pointed out:

"Taliban infiltration of the Afghan police force would make it impossible to keep the prince's presence secret, putting Harry and his comrades in danger."

Get real, especially you ex service people.

i dont think that it is his fault he is not going back ithink he wants to be there but it also puts so many more soldiers in even more danger than they already are ,it would be a big feather in the taliban cap to either capture or kill prince harry

Going to Afghanistan would interfere with his night life, SOHO, CHELSEA etc. they will probably strut around eventually like their father, with a chest full of medals, disgusting and phony ,ex Royal Navy
