It put David Cameron's party on 37 per cent - just six points ahead.
The gap is the narrowest between the two in the polls for nearly a year.
The Liberal Democrats were on 17 per cent in the Ipsos MORI survey.
If the percentages are repeated at the General Election it would result in a hung parliament.
Mr Cameron needs an extra 1.9 million votes to win, new research shows.
The Tory leader requires 10.6million people to back his party to achieve a working Commons majority.
They got just 8.7m last time so must persuade almost 2m voters to change their minds, according to UK Polling Report.
They could in theory win a tiny majority with a fraction of the extra votes if they took Labour's 112 most vulnerable seats.

I was going to vote Conservative but now I'm also voting UKIP after David Cameron because the third political party to renage on it's Cast Iron pledge.
Everyone I talk to wants the UK out!

Humm seems i was right the main reason the polls are going against dave is he wont give us a referendum on in or out of the EU so maybe UKIP can win this one. Wake up 'call me Dave'

Cameron will say or do anything if he thinks he'll get a few extra votes from it. He has a weak shadow cabinet mostly from the tory old guard (who tried to ruin this country in the 80's) and George Osborne as chancellor is a joke, I wouldn't trust him to be in charge of the petty cash let alone the country's finances!!! Camerons only policy seems to be to talk this country down as much as possible so he can justify the huge cuts he wants to make in public spending to line the pockets of his rich pals who fund the tory party.

I am considering voting UKIP as I want out of Europe. I am 59 years old and had the opportunity of voting on wether Britain should join the then EEC although I was young I voted NO! and 99% of my generation when I have asked them how they voted said they also voted NO! so maybe we were stitched up even back then. It is not fair to all the people who could not vote to not have their say and I agree with the view that we should have a vote about wether we stay or pull out of the hated EU.

Dave... he is a chameleon. Brown might not have been directly elected; I have this nagging itching that Brown will do a good job in the long run. Dave is out of his depth.

Why play musical chairs any more with this lot. Cameron is weak, and will go anywhere the votes are. Two issues will dominate the election. The EU and immigration. You have to pull out of one to do anything about the other, and he just hasn't got the guts. The BNP will do both, and bring our soldiers home into the bargain. That's good enough for us thank you very much.

Every party is a waste of time.
90% politicians (being generous with my 10%) are out for what can get for selves and up there chums.
Rest of the world are laughing ass off at the state of Britain.

we want a referendum on EU,in or out
if Cameron cant promise this we must vote for
whoever will give this promise.
Recent revalations have shown Labour and the other Main parties are Lying to us all.

We are told we live in a DEMOCRACY,so we should be given the right to vote on the EU,stay in or out.
If Cameron wants to be PM he must promise us this right,EU democracy is what we are concerned with despite dishonest MPs and the Economy,if we get this,we can then deal with MPs

I was considering voting Conservative until call me Dave was the second person to deny me my right to a referendum if he gets into parliment next year. I will vote UKIP instead.

Mr. Cameron has lost a lot of ground over two issues, one the referendum snub to the public even if the vote would not mean much. At least we could see which way the public felt about the EU and decisions could be made accordingly.
Second is trying to impose women upon the public as their chosen candidate. This has no bearing on who is best for the job and to be fair should be left to the conservative party in that area.

We need a political party that stands out and does something different. Maybe a more ethical party that steps forward and does something about people eating our friends, the animals?
By Rupert.. Posted November 22 2009 at 12:55 PM.
David Cameron is weak, he tells us what we want to hear but in the end he wont follow through - at least Gordon Brown has the balls to do what he says, even if at times he knows that people are not going like it.
Cameron - you talk the talk but you certainly cant walk the walk.

Cameron can't give us a referendum, it's too late, it's been signed. Job done.. But what he can do is give us a vote on weather we stay part of the EU. I for one want out. We put more into europe than we get out of it and i dont like the thought of some unelected nobody telling us what we can and can't do. Give us the chance to have our say Davie lad otherwise im voting UKIP.

People aren't stupid. The Good British public know that Cameron is NOT to be trusted neither are his party. LIB DEMS ALL THE WAY.
By sambo.. Posted November 22 2009 at 11:50 AM.
Cameron should address the big issues that are driving people toward other parties. There are some that are glaringly underplayed, and people know it.
By RussN.. Posted November 22 2009 at 11:49 AM.
Think a lot of people are realising that Cameron is just an opportunist politician..he will say a lot of things if the public give him the thumbs up,or indeed if it causes Brown some embarassment..but the substance is missing. Also the fact that the 1st thing on the agenda will be to raise the inheritance tax to £1m,which will benefit his rich friends first of all, when a ot of working people in this country have'nt had a pay rise for 2yrs,certainly the alarm bells rang loudly for some!
In my case I remember Thatcher, who abandoned whole swaithes of people to their own fate! And was prepared to lie to that end. Ask the miners..especially in Nottingham!

The EU is the key. If cameron said he'd give us a vote on in or out of the EU he'd win a landslide, i was going to vote conservative but now i will vote UKIP and ive heard many others say the same.

Differeniate yourselef from Labour. RIP up the referendum.
By Steve Tea.. Posted November 22 2009 at 10:27 AM.
Dave Cameron blew it when he denied us the chance for a vote on the referendum. Also I don't think he's strong enough to stand up to the EU and fight for our rights! Is he pro Europe man I wonder????
By Cheryl Brown.. Posted November 22 2009 at 10:16 AM.
Europe is the key. Think about it Cameron. The British people are not happy with Brussels
