Dynasty of dossers

Scandal of benefit-grabbing family who live a life of idleness

Image Flag

MEET layabout Dosser Smith and his growing brood - the latest generation of an astonishing tribe of scroungers.

For Dosser is at the centre of a 20-strong dynasty of deadbeats raking in a staggering £450,000 A YEAR in benefits.

And the 28-year-old father of six - who wants even MORE children with his jobless wife Sarah - confessed: "I've never worked a day in my life."

His real name is Robert Smith - but he's as proud of his nickname as he is of the way his own family sponges nearly £32,000 a year off the country's taxpayers.

"I truly am a Dosser - I love being called that and no one calls me Robert. If I win the lottery I'll pay to get my name changed officially," he bragged.

And toothless Sarah, 27, is the perfect queen for this king of cadgers.

"The benefits we are given are s*** - they should double it at Christmas," she sneered. "Why should my kids go without? I want them to have the same as every other child."

Lavish

"There are about 20 in the whole family who claim off the state," said a disgusted relative. "There can't be a family in Britain like them.

"It's been passed down from generation to generation. Dosser could get a job and they could get off benefits. But why bother when the Government is giving them handouts?"

Last week it emerged that 300,000 people like the Smiths are getting more than £20,000 in benefits every year - TREBLE the amount since Labour came to power in 1997.

Dosser gets £203 a month in incapacity benefit - claiming he can't work because he has an alcohol problem. Sarah gets £353 a week income support.

They also claim £86 a week in child benefit, £1,000 a year council tax relief, £226 a year for school meals for each of their three school-age children and £400 monthly housing benefit to cover the rent of their three-bedroom home in Nottingham. It makes a grand total of £31,742 a year.

Despite the burden they put on the welfare state, Sarah bleated: "It's hard for us to get by. I have a lot of children, I should be given a lot more money.

"I come from a large family. My gran had eight children and my aunt has 16. It runs in the family. I don't work - I have the children to look after.

"I have to go without all kinds of things. I haven't even got Sky."

Yet they still plan to lavish presents on their children, all under 10 years old, at Christmas - including a laptop, a Nintendo DS and a PlayStation 2. "They all want the latest things. And you have to give them what they want," she said. She has been with Dosser 12 years and accepts that he'll never get a job because of his drinking.

"He's alcohol dependent. He has to try not to drink and it is difficult for him so he can't work," she said. "Sometimes he can start drinking first thing in the morning and it's mayhem."

Then she begins to whinge about her benefits. "I even have to pay towards the rent of this house every month which is horrendous. That is £40 every month," she said. "We are a big family - we need a bigger house."

Sarah receives nearly £50 income support for each of her children and a further £64.30 for herself - totalling £353. She can claim this until her youngest child is seven and then she will have to claim Jobseekers Allowance.

But she said: "I have to pay £15 gas and electric a week and the TV licence is £10 a week. And I had some pictures done of the kids last Christmas - so I have to pay a loan man £40 a month for them. I owe him £600. Everything adds up. It is a struggle."

But Sarah's relative - who does not want to be named - is not sympathetic. "Sarah and Dosser are lazy slobs like Wayne and Waynetta. "

"Dosser basically got signed off on for being a drunk. The message that sends out is that you can sit around the house all day boozing and the State will pay for it."

Shocks

Susie Squire of the Taxpayers Alliance told us: "This is a very concerning case and it is staggering that this family is taking home far above the average wage in benefits every year.

"Where is the incentive for people to work hard and better themselves when they are living off the taxpayer? The system needs urgent reform."

In September, Tory MP Iain Duncan-Smith revealed the party planned to reform the benefits system that currently costs £170 billion a year.

His report called for a dramatic simplification of the system and would see the 51 benefits currently paid to the sick, low-paid and unemployed reduced to just two. Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary Theresa May said: "Things really have to change. The figures show the shocking growth of a dependency culture under Labour."

Last night a spokesman for the Department for Work and Pensions said: "The benefits system is there to help hard working people and families who find themselves in difficult situations."

And, of course, families like Dosser's.

Just thought I'd point out that the current system of UK benefits was brought in by the Tories in 1988.

Why don't they have their own reality tv program and get sponsors to pay their salaries?

By doreen.. Posted November 18 2009 at 8:29 PM.

There is a easy way to sort this problem out, make claiming the dole a 36hour a week job, as a employment advisor who worked with the the longterm unemployed that was their biggest fear, it would also stop people working and claiming dole. They could have 2 days a week job searching and 3 day voluntary work fixing the potholes that the goverment cant afford to fix because off these scroungers.

They evade work like the plague I had to check every application and letter that left our office off these people because they sent blank letters and gave answers on applications to make themselves unemployable. I even had a client who had a nazi cross on his forehead, I arranged 800 pounds to have it lasered off but he refused because that was his free ticket for life

The government needs to do something to stop our current/next generation relying on benefits.

The whole system needs to be completed reformed, to encourage people to work/study to better themselves, instead of doing nothing, and allow the working society to support these people.

If the government allows this to continue then it’s a slippery slope to bankruptcy, as there won’t be enough money left to pay for everything. The signs are already showing with the government in serious debt. The next government will have to make some difficult choices, otherwise it will only mean higher taxes for everyone.

What is the point in people like this!
I work a full time job and support my young family. The tax and national insurance I pay is a joke and it all goes to muppets like these.
My family have nice things like a ps3 and an xbox360 and two cars and holiday's abroad and in the uk and it's all because I work very hard..........I also have Sky TV (What a crime)!!!
If I paid less tax and national insurance I could treat my family to more of these nice things instead of treating other families.

Well done BENEFIT STATE

By Neil.. Posted November 18 2009 at 2:04 PM.

I left school after getting my exams and went into full time employment, even after I was made redundant I didn't claim a penny from the state as it's totally against my morals, I just got up early each day and searched for a new job until I got one, which I can quite happily say I'm in a job which I love.

People like this make me sick to be British, this country is too occupied fixing the rest of the worlds problems and not it's own.

Get a job you useless bums, the tax payer doesn't want to pay for you anymore and those who do, need their heads checking.

By Josh.. Posted November 18 2009 at 2:05 PM.

Well this is the unacceptable face of socialism. You have had numerous occasions to get rid of this government and change society for the better. Be it on your own heads for voting Labour in the first place.

Reporting such people in the papers is not helping the current situation. I, like many,am struggling to find work and having to rely on handouts. For most people on benefits the last year has seen an increase in bills and no rise in benefits leading to a situation of the poor getting poorer. I do not like being labelled as a layabout scrounger who lives a life of luxury on the dole. last week we ran out of food two days before our next payment arrived.

By dennis.. Posted November 18 2009 at 1:21 PM.

Don't blame Dosser or his wife and multitude of kids. Blame this outragous benefits system which allows it to happen. I agree with the correspondant who suggests child benefit should only be paid on three children. I would go further and suggest two. Stop encouraging large families or pay the price in future years. Glad I won't be around in 2050 to see the effects on our lives of unrestrained population growth. Get a job Dosser and show some pride in being able to support your family. You are a disgrace, but words are not enough. Action needs to be taken against you in a gradual reduction of benefits, but this won't happen under this weak kneed government. Over to you Mr Cameron.

By Pat Carolan.. Posted November 18 2009 at 1:33 PM.

This is not rare, its the norm in modern day England! The father of my partners children has 7 kids, grandkids from his 14 year old daughter and the only work he does is cash in hand bits and pieces to help his state sponsered cocaine habbit.
Its not just these peoples fault, the state know that they are breeding a timebomb of civil dissent so they try and subdue the masses with cheap alcohol (stay at home, have a drink) minimal policing (coke that will brighten your worthless life) its like putting kids in front of the TV 24 hours a day, there is no incentive to work or (importantly) no dissinsentive to skive!!
Sarah would work if she could?? yeah right, she would get the state to buy her another laptop so she could "lern 2 writ proparly" lost cause, no hope castrate him and steralise her, get them out of social housing into state run dormitory accomodation at least the kids will be looked after and we might not loose another generation.

There is a petition on No10 for urine tests for bennefits, get signing people! I am all for helping those that need help but I am sick of working like a dog to pay for junkies and drunks. If you want bennefits have a urine test for drink and drugs, no pass no cash. Thats how it works for me in the transport industry! Sign up now and try and wake the moron brown up

By Sick of the state.. Posted November 18 2009 at 1:29 PM.

stop having kids.kick the alcoholic husband out.or take the benefits off him.you see more of these types of people all the time in town centre, sand outside of greggs pie shops.i think i,ll emigrate and leave this washed up country to the scroungers, immigrants and travellerers

By tony.. Posted November 18 2009 at 11:44 AM.

For all you sympathisers out there - I too am a carer of a severely disabled son who requires 24hr care and will do for the rest of his life. HOWEVER, while he is at school I work part time and employ a carer for him at school holidays. Yes, its extremely tiring but I do it because I've always worked since leaving school, albeit part time for the last 15 years since I had my kids. Most allowances now are means tested and because my husband has a job, we are not entitled to any help for our son, so I have to work to bring money into the house. I've had to get loans to pay for basic items that my son needs, but the only help I've had from 'the state' was advice to give up work, divorce my husband and go on benefits!!! I'd get everything my son needs then. Thankfully I have a lot more self respect than some and I drag my sorry behind out of bed every morning - sometimes after only 2 hours sleep and go and earn my bit so I can pay taxes for scum to lounge around and watch tv all day and moan about how hard their lives are. So please, don't tar all carers with the same brush - some of us do work and contribute to society - its only the scroungers that get the publicity!

By Sue.. Posted November 18 2009 at 11:07 AM.

Simple solution - only allow child benefit for the first three children.

Other than that, leave the family alone, the kids sound well cared for and why should the mother not want nice things for her children for Christmas?

By dave.. Posted November 18 2009 at 11:12 AM.

Astounding, I am suffering from liver disease caused by a genetic blood disorder. At have been dignosed at end stage of this disease, it has been explained to me that my liver could fail causing death at almost anytime. I feel very week and tired, I continue to work for far less than these people are taking in state benefits. Because I have been told that I am not entitled to any benefits. What a system we have, when a drunken bum can claim from the state, while genuinly ill people have to continue to work to pay for these people, and just to make ends meet. Glad that I will probably be out of this system soon !

By Perry Smith.. Posted November 18 2009 at 11:00 AM.

OMG well i wonder how bad crime would get if we had no benefits system, maybe if we werent taxed so hard and paid so bad and let down by our 1st rate country's education system whilst the politicians and corperate world keep us down and waste our taxes on lining there own pockets then maybe certain people would find the strength to overcome there personal obsticles and contribute to an equal and fairer society.

By Sir spishus.. Posted November 18 2009 at 10:59 AM.

I have a certain amount of sympathy for Sarah. Everyone seems to be getting at her but forgetting that there is another adult in this household - "Dosser". Sarah is probably a very good mum and will be doing her best to support and raise a young family. The issue here isn't Sarah but her lazy drunken partner who can't be bothered to address his own issues and rid himself of alcohol dependency and get off his backside into a job. It's the people like him that are causing the problems in Britain. People seem to forget that being a mum and a housewife can also be a full time job - you're just expected to do it for free!

By Sarah H.. Posted November 18 2009 at 10:36 AM.

This is a prime example of why I left the UK, disgusting!!! Brown should stop thinking about how to make other countries around the world better and take a close look at his own! The UK is a laughing stock world over and this 'scenario' is a cold blood insult to every hard working family in the UK!

By James - UK.. Posted November 18 2009 at 7:52 AM.

Good old Mr Brown. ship them all out with Mr Brown.

By James.. Posted November 18 2009 at 4:42 AM.

Don't be fooled by articles like this into thinking that it is indicative of the mentality of most of Britain's unemployed, it's not. Many would love to get jobs and have a decent income instead of struggling on uemployment benefit and stuck in a rut of poverty and debt. The toll on self-esteem of being unemployed effects mental health as well as physical health related to the poor diet. The fact is this country has a real problem and it's called Capitalism, a system which serves the rich who are a very small pecentage of the population while the majority scrape along trying to cope with bills, cost of food, heating etc etc. Unemployed people I know cannot even afford to buy new clothes let alone christmas presents for their family or relatives. So the real question is when do we wake up to the reality that Captialism must go and be replaced with a system that does not promote greed and waste entire generations...

By Ariana.. Posted November 18 2009 at 1:26 AM.

mandy the paper knocked on my door last week and said they was doing a peace on familys at xmas so i said i would do it then they rang me up on the saturday and said sorry but they have put this i dident no and couldent do owt about it but why dont people listen when i say i cant go to work as i am a FULL TIME CARER so what the **** do u people want me to do stop caring for my son he needs me he has been disabiled now since he was 6 months what do u all want me to do give up on him my son needs me and these nasty comments need to stop now if i wasent a carer i would work i would love to work to meet new people and to get me out of the house because at the momment ive got 3 kids at home i am still breast feeding my baby so i cant take him to work and at the momment i am working with the school to make my DISABILED sons life better at school so do u all want blood next i cant do much more and just remember if i could work i would work the papers must of forgotten to put that

By sarah.. Posted November 17 2009 at 9:38 PM.

I made a lengthy comment yesterday which obviously failed this websites checking system. I know this family, I can't believe that Sarah has lowered herself and her children to this. They deserve a much better life than what keeps being exposed to them, come on Sarah, you know what you need to do. What or who is more important to you?

By Mandy.. Posted November 17 2009 at 8:24 PM.

Not being one for posting such replies on websites usually, after reading this article I felt an overwhelming urge to do so. I must admit that this article did particularly warm my heart and give me that giddy glow of joy and excitement. This is a true example of what makes Britain Great.
Now I'm worried, I don't know if I'll be able to sleep tonight worrying if those kids won't have a Playstation 2 this Christmas. I know, I’ll put in a few hours overtime and buy them one myself -I know I already do a full time job so I can look after my family but I'm not taking any chances on this one - those kids NEED a Playstation 2 and that is that!!! No SKY you say?????? My God, I find this revelation to be an outrage - I have spoken to my local Sky Representative and he has kindly agreed to provide this wonderful wholesome Brady Bunch-like family with every single channel available, in HD for the low low price of £79 per month, and I have first hand evidence that you have state benefits burning a hole in your Royal Blue Lacoste shell suite. Phew, that's a weight off your mind isn't it Sarah? I know what you're thinking and don't worry, of course I realise you need a 56inch HD ready LED television to enjoy those channels so I have taken the liberty of popping down to Curry’s and I have bought you 5 - one for each room in your flee ridden cesspit that technically I own -Don’t get me wrong you can't blame the kids it wasn't their choice to be brought into this world by such low life scum,. After all, all that many kids do is confirm that we’ve got yet another generation of this behaviour to look forward to. Cheers. Cameron might not get it as catastrophically wrong and might be prepared if he’s given the chance. I said might be – that isn’t a vote for the Torries.
I must admit that ‘Dosser’ Smith does have my full sympathy with regards to his alcohol dependency enabling him from working, I’m sure in my heart of hearts that Smithy would be more than happy to work given half the chance, he seem s like a decent chap even if he does look like Barry McGuigans homeless brother, he has just been unfortunate with this crippling disease. Fret ye not Dosser, chin up son.
As for continuing to reproduce, one question immediately springs to mind – ‘Are you having a laugh?’ Don’t you think you’ve inflicted enough damage on this country you scrounging leech. The only person that serves to profit from your existence in the entire country is Jeremy Kyle.
In conclusion I don’t think I can close this message without a few mentions to some very important people without whom none of this scandalous behaviour could be taking place. From the bottom of my heart thank you: Mr Blair & Mr Brown, talk about hitting the nail on the head. Last but by no means not least thank you to every single one of you hard working tax paying Britain’s (Or as Dosser would refer to us – Mugs). Churchill would be so proud.

i would like to comment on some things im sarah mother and i dont help her i work 5 days a week and the kids dont need to be in care at all they r well looked after and fed so why make comments like that tanya

By richard hart.. Posted November 17 2009 at 4:36 PM.

My wife and I work, we have a 900 quid a month mortgage. Our next door neighbour doesn't work, is getting a gastric bypass surgery on the NHS as he has gotten so large sitting in front of the TV for the last year, and has just been re-imbursed by a job centre scheme, for a new tent size interview suit costing over 200 quid.
At least he is looking for work!
It must make Gordon Brown very happy to know that the non working and working people are now on a financial level.

By tony.. Posted November 17 2009 at 3:48 PM.

i have just read the comment that sarah? has put be fare people how can she go to work with 3kids still at home and a dissabiled kid i bet its hard for her give her a break people

By shannon.. Posted November 17 2009 at 4:13 PM.

sarahs son had meningitis when he was 6 months and not has learning, speech and behavior delay and it is hard work and in her benefits she gets carers thats why she gets so much BECAUSE SHE IS A CARER so she hasent done owt wrong and when her other 3 kids are at school then she can go out and get a job because she would love one but not at this moment because she has a lot on her plate with everything so please just stop judging her shes done nothing wrong

By kerry.. Posted November 17 2009 at 4:06 PM.

I cant believe what i have just read!Three years ago i had an operation that ended up with me having a damaged spine...Everyday is a struggle for me in everything i do,i have damaged nerves which has given my body so much pain.I pray for the day i can go back to work and earn a honest living again, three years is a long time to be sat at home staring at four walls.People like that family are worse than scum but this is an example of what this labour goverment has done to this country.Stop his benefits and force him to work if he doesnt work then he shouldnt get anything!!

By john james mcglade.. Posted November 17 2009 at 2:52 PM.

I agree with a great deal of the other posts, this is an unfair and disgusting situation that us common people know is wrong but the government seem to be blind to. I do work very hard and my wife does to, we have to watch when people around us have their house paid for them, theyhave their council tax paid, they get given cash allowances and have the free time to spend it in the pub, they then get in their free motorbility car that they pay no car tax or mot on and drive to the swimming baths and park in a disabled slot outside the main doors, they then go swimming for free. Whilst they do this their children get free dinners at school, if there pitbull gets ill they get free vets assistance, mind you not that its cold in their houses as the council or association fit new boilers, fires and double glazing as well as grants for loft insulation...the list of assistance goes on and on and on...what do I get, bigger tax bills and deductions from my pay, and no I am not rich but a simple serviceman who does his duty to his family and most of all country. Please please will the government take head and stop all these extra's it is the only way to encourage people to do a days work for the rewards we all want.........lets see how many people have alcahol abuse problems when they have to work for a pint.

By Nige.. Posted November 17 2009 at 3:00 PM.

the papers forgot to tell you about her son he is disabiled and needs she 24/7 thats why she cant go out to ork and sarah is not a drinker she has never drank the papers just put all af the bad things then twisted it

By kerry .. Posted November 17 2009 at 3:43 PM.

the papers have only wrot bad about me and forgot to tell u all that i would like to work but not at the moment because i have 3 kids at home and i have a disabiled son so at the moment he takes up alot of my time as i am his CARRER but u lot have just juged me on what the papers have said i would love to go out to work and robert has had jobs in the pass he just went thru a bad patch when his family started taking the **** and now he is recovering so judge as much as you want but just remember the papers dont always print the truth about people

By sarah kemp .. Posted November 17 2009 at 3:43 PM.

I,m 54, worked all my life in the agricultural community. My hours have been long, hard, cold and dirty, but if I took home a fraction of what this pondlife recieve I would not winge. What this scumbag needs is 2 years National Service and at the ripe old age of 54 I would join up just for the shear pleasure of seeing him wriggling and squirming. The thought of some hardfaced army sargeant shouting "get off your lazy arse you horrible little man" would make my day !

By Roger.. Posted November 17 2009 at 1:19 PM.

i have been reading up on a few things and to say the leased i am shocked!!not only do these people get the money off the state they can also have loans paid to them from the state,if you are on income support you can have a £1000 loan if you are claiming,WHAT A JOKE!!!!,these people can live a life of reily for sitting round doing nothing,PLUS'they can other kinds of loans,if they are getting all this they will never work,no wonder they can have holiday's,new TV's and other things, includings cars and bike's,maybe i should pack in work and join this scum!!!!!

By baz colins.. Posted November 17 2009 at 12:32 PM.

I understand the anger coming through in most of the posts here but I would suggest that people take a minute to think about the situation first. I do not blame these people who abuse our benefit system, neither do I blame all of the immigrants who come to this country and get handouts. Most of us dream of a better life, somewhere in the sun perhaps? I know I do. My view is this - don't blame the people who take advantage of the system, blame the government for allowing it. If the Spanish government had the same lax rules and allowed people to get the same amounts in benefits or announced that anyone could go and live there and get benefits and a council house, most of us would be on the next plane out of here. The whole system needs an overhaul.

By Heather.. Posted November 17 2009 at 12:06 PM.

i'm sick & tired of hearing of scum like this!
Ive never had a holiday abroard for 4 yrs, mainly cos we have worked hard to get our house the way we wanted. This yr we went to Cypres. 1st day there I broke my ankle!
Got back & within a fortnight I got a letter saying I had to go for a medical! Whats not to believe with a bloody pink cast on my leg!!!
I'm self employed (Dog Grooming) A1 Pretty Paws. I love it. I dont want to be off work & I certainly dont want to get £64 per week instead of £300! Health & safety, I would slip all over the place.
What on earth is going on in this country!
Please!
Its about time something was done about layabouts. Stop paying them for having kids, make them work.
This bloke has probs with drinking! obviously too much money then. we cant afford to go out & thats with both of us working, running a home etc.

By Gail O'Donnell.. Posted November 17 2009 at 8:44 AM.

THis story should open the governments eye to the state of this country a country with low life like dosser who have no morals. BROWN OUT!!!!

By otis.. Posted November 16 2009 at 9:09 PM.

I work full time to support myself im 55yr's old now...on min wage so not much money each month ..
In the past i brought my 3 lads up and working.
Yes i would have been better off on the dole...but im not a dosser ...and i can hold my head up !!
I do know some local people that claim..always got new things holidays and not short of money..
The system is so wrong, and these so called dossers should get out and support there familys.

By Elaine.. Posted November 16 2009 at 7:59 PM.

what is this government thinking, people like them should be made to work and if they cant find any work then they should be given any job like cleaning toilets or something. They are just lazy slobs!

By Daniel Kittlety.. Posted November 16 2009 at 6:07 PM.

Its the kiddies I feel sorry for..............should be in care because their mum wont get them away from the violence. I live near this family. Sarah is ok, but needs to be more independant, her mum lives next door and helps too much.

By Tania.. Posted November 16 2009 at 5:53 PM.

people like this make me soooooo angry. Myself and my partner don't earn that much between us - and we both work!! I really wonder why i bother sometimes!

By Natali, wilts.. Posted November 16 2009 at 5:40 PM.

it is absolutly pathetic how they get so much money for sitting doing nothing all day when my partner and I work all day and still cannot afford to put our daughter into nursery, I think the tax office needs to look again at what benefits they are giving out to people because they are causing more problems then solving them!

By Nicole.. Posted November 16 2009 at 4:56 PM.

My daughter brought a letter home from school about music lessons.
I was disgusted to read that if she wanted to take the lessons I would have to pay £7.00 a term where as if I had been receiving free school meals I would only have to pay £3.50.
Not only do I have to suffer by paying taxes to let these lazy slobs stay at home my daughter has to miss out because I can't afford to pay the extra for the lessons.
All children in schools should be treated the same.

By Sarah.. Posted November 16 2009 at 4:50 PM.

I just cannot believe it! - Myself and my partner have both worked all our adult lives and in June this year the company my partner worked for collapsed and he was made redundant - he was forced to sign on and we had problems paying the mortgage etc so turned to the government for help - WHAT A JOKE!! - you have to be out of work for 3 months before they will even help you with anything - what kind of a system is that the longer you are out of work the better off you are! and apparantly if I was to give up my job we would be even better off - fortunately my morals are too high to do that! - my partner is now trying to start his own business and approached the authorities as to how he could do this without breaching the rules and they advised him to work under 15 hours per week unpaid whilst trying to get the business off the ground and then some bright spark in the Department of Works and Pensions decided to suspend his joke of a jobseekers allowance because he was trying to launch a new business to support myself and our two children, and the spokesman in the paper says they are trying to help hardworking people and families who find themselves in difficult situations - what a load of bull!! - they offer no help at all to hardworking people who have paid taxes and need some short term help! - he is still getting no help at the moment and we are struggling every day - perhaps I should jack my job in, stay at home look after my kids, and just give up and turn to the bottle - then I will be able to buy the things my children want for christmas - that family make me sick!!

By Claire.. Posted November 16 2009 at 2:26 PM.

HOW MUCH??????????????? WELL BASICLY SOCIAL ARE TO BLAME, IF THEY WASNT GIVING OUT THAT MUCH MONEY THEN THE DOSSERS WOULD HAVE TO WORK. ME AND MY PARTNER HAVE TO WORK, BUT I MIGHT HAVE MORE KIDS AND BECOME A DOSSER, WHY NOT? EVERYBODY ELSE DOES AND THE MONEY IS WELL WORTH IT........................ HAHAHAHAHAHA.................. PS. FANTASIC STORY REALLY MADE ME LAUGH, GO ON SARAH!!!!!!!!!!!!1

I am disgusted. I work in an extremely demanding job, sometimes working 18 hours a day, then my taxes contribute to these 'dossers' who earn three times as much as me in a year!!!!!
I dont have children beacause I know about contraception - meaning when I do decide to have kids I will make sure I am financially stable enough to provide them with what they need, not what they want.
Your children dont have the same things other people have,as other people work hard, earn their own money and go without their own luxuries to provide for their kids.
Get off the drink, get off your backside and get a job and teach those kids how to be a decent human being before they grow up and claim more of my hard earned money.
And as for doubling benefits to afford Christmas, were will the money 'MAGICALLY' appear from, would they double the amount of tax I pay?!! Im struggling to afford christmas myself as it is.

The Goverment need to re-establish right and wrong in all aspects not just the benefit system starting with a review of the human rights law. A Goverment review of laws that have been taken to the extreme thus protecting no one and the whole benefit system needs changing so that the people who need support get it without being made to feel inadequate. People who have more children whilst claiming should not get additional money changing the idea more children more benefits. People who are unemployed should attend training schemes to enable additonal support for our old age pensioners and support people on incapacity benefits also offering a buddy system for alcholics and drug addicts. National Service should be instated along with army boot camps for people who won't conform and prison should be prison not a bloody holiday camp where, guess what? yep you can even claim benefits... People who break the law need to answer for their crimes realising that they for-go their human rights once found guilty and being locked away in prison means that your locked up for 20 hours a day.

Why don't we pull all of our troops out of war zones and put scumbags like you in there and then at least ya might contribute because lets face it there are lot of people like you in this country.
How can you be so proud of being a lazy dosser?and there's a great invention to help with the amount of children you have...IT'S CALLED A CONDOM!!!!!! you can get them free from your GP so if its free surely that would interest you!!! Its people like you that I describe as a leech on the arse of society and you will never be anyone!I just feel sorry for your children who have such a crap role model.
I am a nurse work with people with mental health problems and see people suffer on a daily basis. Why can't you work? And double your benefits for Xmas, get a job ya lazy ****!
Did you get paid for te article that they published?!
I am going to stop writing because you make me sick!

By Stuart .. Posted November 15 2009 at 11:20 PM.

HOW MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My dad suffered post trumatic stress for a number of years, which eventually led to a break down, after fighting for his country in the Falklands. He tried his hardist to hold a job down and managed most of the time, my parents got NO help, and never even asked. When things finnally started to look up he sufferd two heart attacks within the space of 3 weeks which left him seriously ill and unable to work, when he asked for help, he was assessed for DLA and was told "No you are not ill enough" when he asked for incapacity he was given £72 a month, and this joker gets £203!!!!! We all sit and wonder why the country is in recession when people like this are eating up all of the country's money and still demanding more as they cant afford SKY!!!! Maybe DOSSER Smith should see how genuinley POOR people live out of no fault of there own!!! Myself and my lesbian partner will have to spend thousands to have a family of our own and these people POP out kids for fun just to get more money!!!

By Kirsty.. Posted November 15 2009 at 10:04 PM.

i agree that this family has no excuse as none of them have worked a day in their misserable lives. i am in their possition right now i have 5 kids and me and my partner ended up on benefits when the company my partner worked for went bankrupt and shortly after that my business had to be folded. but instead of sitting back looking into a lifetime of benefits i have gone back to college in the 9 months i have been unemployed and retrained. I am now looking for work hopefully in the very very near future we will both be back working. point is DON'T PUT EVERYONE ON BENEFITS INTO THE SAME BOAT as some of us end up in this situation through no fault of our own and do go back to work. i would also like to point out that the money that is given is ample money to live on if you don't feed your kids on rubbish and don't throw your benefit money down your neck in booze

By clare.. Posted November 15 2009 at 10:27 PM.

This is the way that the system is now run. This couple are third or forth generation claimants. People dont realise that the benefit system in not a way of life, but a support to get back in to work. I think that the Government should only pay for two children, whether you are on the benefits system or not. It is time that the Government educated those on benefits, by cutting their benefits if they have been unemployed for 5 years plus. I dont think that people should blame Brown, as this system was this way with a conservative goverment and the govenments before. I think that people should be means tested again, then we will see how many dossers get a flat screens TV and top of the range mobile phones.

By Donna.. Posted November 15 2009 at 9:04 PM.

I have worked since I was 16. I am now 50. I have rheumatoid arthritus which is very painful and causes chronic fatigue amongst other serious symptons. I work full time and was turned down for disability living allowance which would have helped me to give up some hours at work which is what the hospital advises me to do. I cannot afford not to work so I have to carry on regardless how I feel.

By debbie bedford.. Posted November 15 2009 at 9:17 PM.

i am disgusted that these people can get away with this!, i am a full time health care support worker and have two children, three months ago my partner who has worked all his ife and is proud of it, was made redudant from jcb, and we have had little help through this horrible time, we have even had baliffes at our door! luckly my partner got himself a job, but we have now been told we will; have no help and he will not get paid for a month a a half! i feel that you only get help if you sit on your backksides and tell a load of lies, it's a shame because there are many genuine people out there who can't work but the government needs to put this right, it's not fare that we are treated like this when we work so hard at put into the sytem when these layabouts are worthless, why should they get help? we work hard because we want to create a good example for our children and have pride in our selves!!!!!!!!!!!!

By donna .. Posted November 15 2009 at 7:41 PM.

we have 10 children yet my husband works full time . Its should not be allowed to have so many kids while on benifits. If their well enough to keep having kids , then they are well enough to get a job.

By michelle.. Posted November 15 2009 at 8:06 PM.

What a joke, they get more money then me and my husband and we work full time. We have 3 children under 5, my husband works days and i work nights so we can put a roof over our heads and pay bills, we look after our own children and dont rely on anyone or get handouts, we choose to have children so we support them!!

By sarah.. Posted November 15 2009 at 8:01 PM.

I come from a large family and I am one of 9 children my 1 aunt had 8 and the other aunt had 5 my dad was out of work following being made redundant and my mum didn't work either, however all of the 9 children haven't followed the lazyness that was shown to us when we were bought up on a council estate..we have all left education and have worked since.. I have always worked part time on bank/agency work so this worked round the children and schools and my husband works full time and suffers with his back it was that bad at one point the doctor offered to sign him off but he refused has he loves providing for his family he could have easily took the easy option and we could have scrounged the benefits but at least we know what we have got we have worked hard for it. We have two children one of which is registered disabled and we are in reciept of carers allowance for now I am waiting to begin a permanent 25hr position then I will loose my carers allowance therefore I could say it's not worth it!! but I am taking the position due to the fact I like my independance and it will show our children you get what you work hard for!! This family deserve to have the benefits cut in half due to the fact that there is one of them capable of working I understand the other has a problem but I'm sure there is professional help out there for this. And instead of sitting about surely he could do voluntary work either within nhs sector or charity work. I work and I have been diagnosed with Arthiritis in my hands, knees and back since the age of 30 I also suffer regular migraine attacks and sinus infections which do halt my daily activity and I do have weeks off work because I suffer so badly and there is no cure for none of my symptoms I have suffered this since the age of 15yrs old and whilst suffering all this I work, look after the children, the home and the husband. Reading this story makes us ask WHY DO WE BOTHER?? we work hard we have to pay for nhs precriptions, optician test and glasses for the husband, and any dental treatment and bloody £97.00 each month council tax and are a low income family and we do get some help from other tax payers but at least we have some dignity has we are tax payers too.. There maybe more people claiming benefits these days but this is due to price surges making things so expensive bue at least most are contributing some of what they are claiming. What I'm trying to say is "THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH CLAIMING AS LONG HAS YOU ARE DOING YOUR UPMOST TO CONTRIBUTE!! which from what I have read you are not and I feel that is what is making people so angry.. if more people like you got out to work and at least done something then all of the other taxpayers may not have to pay so much tax in the first place. When my husband got made redundant from Rover Group all we got was job seekers allowance and I know you don't set the rules but you must understand where people are coming from we have always struggled, we never have any spare cash either, we don't get to go out and once the bills are paid the money is gone!! We only get the benefits we recieve due to the son being registered disabled but if it wasn't for that we would get peanuts so I think you really need to make a New Years Resolution where one of you at least decides to seek employment whilst the other one stays at home.. Oh and by the way surely if you have such a large lazy relative family then surely they could do the school runs for you if you were to be at work??

By Mrs Conn.. Posted November 15 2009 at 7:35 PM.

they get more money then some of us that are working .i cant see how her kids will go with out she gets more them most of us week who work .and as for him can work wont work .he would rather milk the systerm with all the immigrants .also just give them enough money for food and bills if thet spend it on alcoholic and cant afford food thats up to them .if you cant ford kids dont have them .

By edwards.. Posted November 15 2009 at 7:19 PM.

Im not saying I agree that these people should be getting so much money on benefits - but what about the MP's who conned us all over their expenses, look at the state of the country because of the bankers and their greed, think about all the multi millionaires who pay no tax! The difference here is "class" - these people are poor. This family is claiming benefits yes, but they didnt nearly bring the country to an economic standstill.

By Amanda.. Posted November 15 2009 at 6:25 PM.

PEOPLE LIKE YOU DISGUST ME.WHY DO YOU HAVE SO MANY KIDS WHEN YOU HAVE NO MONEY TO KEEP THEM BUT EXPECT THE TAX PAYERS TO PAY EVERY THING FOR YOU.YOU ARE OBVIOUSLY THICK AND DONT KNOW ANY BETTER.THE GOVERMENT SHOULD SET A LIMIT OF ONLY PAYING FOR TWO CHILDREN PER FAMILY THEN PEOPLE MIGHT THINK TWICE WHEN THERE NOT GETTING FREE HANDOUTS.LOVE TO BE ABLE TO HAVE A GOOD DRINK MYSELF BUT IM WORKING AND HAVE TO PAY FOR NOT ONLY MY FAMILY BUT YOURS AS WELL WITH THE TAX I PAY.

my 16 year old son goes to 6 form and does part tme work and a 14 year old goes to school and works a sat job im ashamed to say im english when the goverment giv that amount away and the soldiers get peanuts get them cleaning graves somthing to earn ther keep

By darren s.. Posted November 15 2009 at 6:16 PM.

Bring back Thatcher. We would not be in this state if she was till in power!!!! There would be no influx of immigrants and or as many benefit claiments. If you can't afford kids then don't have any!!!!!

By Tony.. Posted November 15 2009 at 5:43 PM.

I am a full time carer for my daughter who has Cerebral palsy.
I have tried to claim Disability Allowance because recently i have been diagnosed with Osteoarthritis and i have been turned down Twice .I have problems with walking on a day to day basis because i have alot of pain in my knees and because i have Arthritis there are those extra items that i have to pay for .I had to give up work because of my health problems and the only income i have coming in is my Carers Allowance, which is not enough to survive on.I am lucky that my Husband has a very good Job.
This family should not get all these benefits ,Her husbands Alcohol problem is self inflicted .My Health problems aren't and i do not get a penny from the Government to help me to cope with the day to day pain .It is disgusting how these people can get around the system when there are so many people in the uk with legite health problems that cannot get a penny.
.The Government needs to do more to stop these benefit cheats.

By Tracy Fife.. Posted November 15 2009 at 5:46 PM.

The goverment should give more money to the people who can be bothered to get of there backsides and work.my husband works full time,i work part-time,we have two children.they should give them alot less money on benefits so they will get a job.

genuine people out there on benefits are getting tared with the same brush.

By katrina.. Posted November 15 2009 at 5:53 PM.

it is just disgusting...these people don't take any responsability of their life and thinks that it isn't their fault if they struggle, but who forced them to have so many kids, to be alcoholic?
the society shouldn't help these type of people, society should help people who pay tax and in needs.

I can understand where people are coming from. My partner was in the royal engineers for 12 yrs and had a couple f jobs but hasn't worked for the past 2-3 yrs. he had a microdysectomy this august gone and has had pain come back. I worked years ago in a chicken factory but now have 4 children and the 6th on the way (unfortunately i lost a little boy 10 yrs ago). this wasn't planned and we are having no more children after this as it is hard to cope even though we love our family. I also have a disabled child who still needs to be dressed and bathed etc a lovely boy. We are on benefits and do the best we can my partner wants to go back to work and i would like to work from home the last couple of years i have done 3-4 courses and hope to find something soon but please do not put down people who have genuine reasons for being on benefits. It makes us sad for the majority who aren't genuine and gives us a bad name.

By sam.. Posted November 15 2009 at 4:17 PM.

I hope the tax man has given them the £300 that they were going to take me to court for would not want it wasted ,after 33years of working self employed this is the first year i could not pay all of my tax due to a huge cut in income and was treated like a criminal , i find it disgusting that while i am put further in debt by her majestys government these scum get all they want and desire am sad to say this country is just a joke but while all decent honest people put up with it the weak spineless politicians will do nothing which we all know is the one thing they are truly great at

By matt.. Posted November 15 2009 at 4:07 PM.

I NEVER THOUGHT ID AGREE YOU HAVE A REALLY GOOD POINT SAM WELL SAID. I WORK 40HOURS A WEEK WITH 4 CHILDREN AND IF WASENT FOR CHIL TAXCREDITS AND SOME HELP WITH CHILDCARE COSTS I WOULD STRUGGLE MORE TO SUPPORT MY FAMILY.

By lee.. Posted November 15 2009 at 3:59 PM.

This is your Great Britian, this is how great Britain is if you people was living in the caribbean, you would be shock.First when you give birth in the caribbean, you don't and i said don't get any support from the government. You have to fend for yourselve.Kids have to sell cakes and icicles during the summer or get a parttime job so that they can buy their school books and uniforms. So this government needs to take a look at how things are done in the caribbean, then do the same here in the UK.Then those layabouts will definately go looking for a job, cause if they don't then they stave. Hash words but thats how it is in the caribbean and we still servive, we are not lazy,we are very intelligent, and successful people, thats why the caribbean is one of the most expensive and lovely destinations in the world because we are very hard working people who don't depend on the government to servive.

By Wattsey.. Posted November 15 2009 at 3:48 PM.

write and complain to every MP, government worker, or anyone that you can, this labour government simply are insulting everyone who works or has ever worked, it is done deliberately, and already under them there has been a 3x increase of people doing this, it is a national disgrace!!

By adrian.. Posted November 15 2009 at 3:18 PM.

People like this should not get any money from the taxpayer at all but from the polticians who put this system in place.I work for just over the minimum wage a week and work on a 3 shift system(6am-2pm/2pm-10pm/10pm-6am)to fund these scruffy but very clever people.MAKES ME SICK!!!

By Darren.. Posted November 15 2009 at 3:11 PM.

since im a single mum of 7 kids myself and on BENEFITS.. i also must me a bum and a scrounger and bone idol??? you really have no idea and to tarn every1 off with the same brush as the dossers is insuling to me you dont know anything about me.The dossers are smiling and think its great there are 2 parents i agree 1 should get off there backside and get a job and the public can have there say but that is there situation not mine nor many others and very unfair in some of the comments i have read to talk about others with large familys on benefits.. for me i would be worse off my family would be worse off if i got a job right now.. i did not plan to have 7 children but there here and i do the best i can, i have worked in past so why shouldnt i be able to claim what i can to do the best for my family?? and a majority of people working also claim working family tax credits/child tax credts, to top up there wages ect so wait there also getting money from the goverment so dont that make them spongers too?

By sam.. Posted November 15 2009 at 3:09 PM.

WELL SAID DAVE!!!
300,000 ON BENEFITS OUT OF 28 MILLION HOMES,LETS GET THIS INTO PERSPECTIVE..
THERE ARE MORE WORKING PEOPLE CLAIMING BENEFITS THAN SINGLE MOTHERS..I COULDNT BELIEVE THAT WHEN I FOUND THAT OUT!

how to ruin someones sunday morning i cant believe they can get away with this whats worse why do we let them get away with this we need a new system if people want kids they should pay for them themselves my husband and i only have one as we couldnt afford 2 were both in full time work and very proud of ourselves times are tough already gotta sort out the scabs who are bringing this country to its knees great britian what a joke ..

By jo weymouth.. Posted November 15 2009 at 2:20 PM.

I work part time ( would love to work full time) my partner has a disability but nobody wants to employ him. we would love to have the up to date gadgets that this family wants for their ever increasing brood. if he knows he's an alcoholic he should do something about it. we dont drink or smoke but still cant afford the things they want and have. Them and the rest of there familys that beleive that sponging of the state is the way to carry on then this government should get them off our streets. bring back national service to make idiots like him realise what life is really like.

this all makes me laugh !! i'm a single mum who works a full time job ,raising a son with aspergers and a daughter and i also have a foster child but i choose to work to support all of us ,yes i recieve some help but my wages pay all my bills including ALL my rent !!! it drives me nuts when people claim they can't work ....well i'm sorry but if i can do it then so can they .Get off your backside get down the job centre and start working !!! they should have their benefits reasessed .its a mad world !!!

By sue.. Posted November 15 2009 at 1:54 PM.

I am a single parent of two and when I found a job I was told by a lady at the job centre it is only £10 more that what I was getting on beneifits it is not worth it my response my kids need to know that you have to work in life and not lay around dossing. I work just over 22 hours and have to pay full rent and everything else that goes to keeping a home. I let my kids know how hard it is that a Good education can help. I went back to college too help my situation. It's hard yes but showing my children what is right makes-up for all the hard times. If he can't work why can't she get a job in school hours.

By Paula.. Posted November 15 2009 at 1:36 PM.

i think the the goverment need to sort these layabouts and make them earn their benifits by compulsary comunity work and i think you will find more than half would get a job

By joe .. Posted November 15 2009 at 1:19 PM.

OMG.......my partner works his fingers to the bone for us and our 4 children, we're constantly skint but it looks like all we have to do is become an alcoholic and watch the benefits stream in. lazy waste of society, i moan about immigrants but these people are so much worse, they're milking the system for eveything its worth!! your a disgrace to britain!!

By sarah.. Posted November 15 2009 at 1:07 PM.

Am I mising the point here or have I been a complete fool all my life. I am a 69 yr old state pensioner, still paying income tax, who has never claimed any benefits in my lifetime, I don't consider my pension as a benefit as my national insurance contributions bought it, and I cannot believe that this Dosser and "family" are getting all these benefits and my income tax is helping them. Its time we all barracked our MP's and wrote to Gordon Brown to get this stopped. How can troops in Afghanistan not get proper equipment when people like this are kept in luxury. If they want more they should do what I and many others did, get off your fat arses and get a job. Its a very sad country we live in today and people like this make it even sadder. I myself am writing to Gordon Brown today to voice my opinions, not that it will make much difference to this family. Ann Shaw

By angela.. Posted November 15 2009 at 11:32 AM.

i cannot believe these people crying out for more money for doing absolutely nothing and they want to give thier kids everything that other kids get well all i can say is get a job like the rest of us, how dare they sit there saying they cannot live on what they get with six kids well let me tell you this i have a family of six and im mightily proud of them but i go out to work for my family and because i want to work yet i manage with my money giving my kids what they want and pay the rent, counsil tax, gas, electric and any other bills that come my way yet i get less money than them in wages and it makes me sick of people like them crying out for more money what about people who work long hours and don't get has much as these people get yet they manage ut should be people like us that should be crying for more money, i realy think the government need to take good look at this because its not right that they can get away with this and they are laughing at us working class people because we are the one who are paying for them not to work and to add to this even my wife has three part time jobs

By peter caunce.. Posted November 15 2009 at 11:10 AM.

myself and my husband also have 6 chiuldren, the difference being we both work to support our family, my husband works long hours so that we can give our children holidays, birthday and christmas presents, and the things they need, because of the long hours my husband works and the wage i bring in from my part-time job, my chilkdren don't qualify for EMA for stopping on at school, the three older ones all have weekend jobs. Our eldest is at university, the next at coillege, which we had to pay for, the others are still at school, for which we have to pay £76 a month for bus passes. This family should start earning their keep instead of the likes of you and me supporting them as well as our own families. It makes my blood boil!!!

By elaine bucknall.. Posted November 15 2009 at 11:03 AM.

I think we need a NATIONAL WORKING CLASS STRIKE! And watch as the country crumbles!

By Jay.. Posted November 15 2009 at 11:08 AM.

Sickening, the problem is there are to many of these kind of people out there. I know some of them and the attitude is why should I get a job, as I want to stay home and be a Mum. Fine do that but fund it yourself.
We have our own business which we work bloody hard to keep going and its doing good so we can afford nice things, but paying higher tax to fund these slobs is a joke.

By tracy.. Posted November 15 2009 at 10:54 AM.

I'm in the Army and when Im in barracks and there isn't anything to do I don't get to go home and put my feet up, I have to clean, sweep leaves and pick up litter. These dossers get to go home to the house they have been given and watch tv, but they don't even do that, they go the pub or bookies!

I can't believe that in 2009 when you have to account for every penny of income to HMRC, dossers get given cash to spend on; FAGS, BEER, GAMBLING, LOTTERY TICKETS, CHOCOLATE, CARS, PETROL, TAKE AWAYS and to my disbelief HOLIDAYS!!! There are even brits on incapacity benefit living abroad!!

I think they should be given redeemable vouchers to spend only on groceries and clothes in asda or tesco or their nearest recognised retailer. Alcohol and Tobacco are not a human right!

I want long-term dole to be ROCK BOTTOM! Soup kitchen and ten man room with bunk beds (like the Army!), not a sustainable lavish stress free lifestyle!

By James Ross.. Posted November 15 2009 at 10:55 AM.

How can this be right,i am a bricklayer struggling to find work, ive only done around a week,in 6 weeks, when i went down the dole office they wouldnt help me as im self employed, yet this is the first time in some 22 years at work when ive seeked help, yet these people get helped all the time and they have never worked, its just not fair is it,anyway you look at it!!!

By Michael John Davies.. Posted November 15 2009 at 10:44 AM.

listen folks, it's simple this is deliberate policy by Brown the unelected dictator, as was the mass immigration policy, and the bankrupt the country policy, and the breakdown of law and order policy, to enable a new socalist order to rise from the ashes, when will you learn that the extreme left wing in this country, Brown, Harmon, Straw etc hate the real working class and are doing everything they can to ruin OUR country, because they are all part of that generation that hate Britain and everything we once stood for.

By adrian.. Posted November 15 2009 at 10:38 AM.

I had been a carer since I was twelve looking after my phyically disabled brother. I then when my parents, who had both worked since they were fourteen until retirement age. I became their carer while still working full time and looking after my son. I myself became ill with cancer then a heart attack and had to live on incapacity benefit which isnt easy at all. Recently (yesterday infact) I received DLA which will mean I will beable to pay someone to help me in and out of bed, bath, help with the shopping ect. Oh and I received an appointment to talk to someone at the hospice about my complicated care package. I found applying and getting these benefits really hard to get and really stressful. How do these scroungers all know what to say on the forms?

What a disgrace this is, my husband is a bus driver and works shifts, his pay is not good, I work full time and we earn between us less than this lot do. When my husband lost his job a few years ago he was told that he was not entitled to any benefits because I work, he has worked for 40yrs and paid his tax and NI and I also have worked all my life and paid my taxes and yet we do not qualify for anything if we fall on hard times. Its about time this country looked at these scroungers and done something about them.. There is a couple in our street, the wife claims benefit as she is "unable to work due to ill health" the son claims benefit as he has a BAD BACK, yet both of them are seen to be doing different errands like lifting, cleaning, erecting tv aerials... where is the justice. All benefits should be calculated on the number of years you have worked, how much tax you have paid etc... or maybe we should all become alcaholics and claim. Reading this is enough to turn you to drink.. and they wonder why people are going to live in other countries,, its because this country now is a laughing stock.. easy Britain...

Isn't it high time the poor old taxpayers all said "enough is enough !" It's heart breaking to see how our taxes go to people who are too lazy to do a day's work. They are probably just the tip of the ice berg.
No wonder some of our politicians try and get away with not paying taxes;they obviously know where the money ends up.

good on them i say ,while the system keep paying for them why not. They are entitled to this way of living. At the end of the day somewhere along the line they have had family pay into the system ie taxes for them to be like this .No one says anything about the imagrants that come to this country and cream the system ,

@ Dave - refreshing to see an interesting point of view for once, instead of the usual 'why me' and 'I'm paying for them' replies.

Absolutely disgusting. My husband got made redundant last year from his job and could only claim job seekers allowance for 6 months due to our wonderful benefit system! He has now been in work for the last 2 months in a job where he has to work away from home most of the time but he would rather do that than sit on his arse scrounging. I cant believe they think they should be allowed more money for christmas!! If you want more money - get a job!
