Oooh, it makes you wonder . . . buying a stairway to heaven, perhaps?
Les Scadding, who last week scooped the £45million Euromillions pot, and wife Samantha have their hearts set on the £2.25 million former home of Led Zeppelin singer Robert Plant.
Les, 58, is a huge fan of Led Zep - famed for rock classic Stairway To Heaven - and now he can afford The Argoed, just 12 miles away from his modest £120,000 semi in Caerleon, south Wales.
Plant lived in the ivy-clad seven-bedroom listed pile - complete with paddock, stables and 11 acres - for four years.
Now it's on the Scaddings' shopping list along with a holiday home in Barbados and a Range Rover. They have already made inquiries about a £1million beach home on the Caribbean island, where they will renew their wedding vows in the New Year. Unemployed trucker Les, who is 59 today, and Samantha, 38, have admitted to pals that they started househunting before the cheque cleared.
And Les was "tickled pink" to find a genuine rock star's home for sale right on his doorstep.
A friend said: "Les is a real hard rock fan. He was delighted to find Robert Plant's country pile up for sale. Les and Sam could live anywhere in the world but they value family and friends so much they want to stay in this area. The house really appeals to them."
Les and Sam have not returned to their semi since they were identified this week as the winners.
But they did splash out on a £500 celebration lunch last Sunday - then had to ask the restaurant for £20 cashback to pay for a cab home.
They took Samantha's mum and sister for a lobster and beef banquet with plenty of champagne at Caerleon's Priory hotel.
But boss Miguel Santiago revealed that as Sam handed over her credit card, she said: "Sorry Miguel, can you do us an extra £20 cashback for a taxi home?"

It's probably haunted by now. Doubtless a drafty crumbly old place with many stain marks. Who wants to hang around a house anyway with that kind of winnings?

perhaps Camelot should give EVERYONE a few million, to get the nation spending / building/ working again!
they can afford it, and we need to beat this recession!

That's a truly wonderful house! After I finished school in the USA and decided to move here, my parents purchased The Argoed--before that we lived in a nice but not nearly as lavish place near there. On a few visits home I was fortunate to have stayed in the house and was so impressed, I just wondered why they couldn't have afforded it when I was still around. Anyway, when my father passed, my mother put it up for sale and that is when Robert bought, somewhere around 1980-81. It's been a while but a place like that has surely only improved over time! Congrats to the lucky, new owners!

Strange that Camelot would give a cheque, whats wrong with doing a bank transfer using CHAPS. If I won the lottery I too would have to borrow money to celebrate before the cheque is cleared.

They are graceful winners and deserve a big chunk of happiness. If only all lottery winners conducted themselves so well and it's nice to see them spend their money on tasteful things. I only wish they could send some of their luck my way!! x
