A spot of trouble on Venus
RIDDLE: Planet¿s blemish

SCIENTISTS are baffled by a mysterious bright spot that has appeared in the clouds of Venus.

It was first noticed by US stargazer Frank Melillo on July 19 and has been confirmed by Europe's Venus Express spacecraft in orbit.

Now it has been spread by winds in Venus's dense poisonous atmosphere. Experts say it might be the plume of a volcano.

Venus has been called Earth's evil twin because its surface is twice the maximum temperature of a domestic oven.

A dark spot on Jupiter last month was the scar from an asteroid impact.
