Oddball MP Lembit Opik today described his relationship with a 21-year-old ex-Wonderbra model as "a meeting of minds".

Mr Opik, the 44-year-old Liberal Democrat, spoke openly for the first time about his feelings for Katie Green - the Ultimo model not quite half his age, on talkSport radio.

We revealed the couple had been on a string of dates earlier this month. And the eccentric MP said he had not ruled out a long term future.

"We're very, very good friends indeed," he said, "It's a meeting of minds. As for the rest of it, it wouldn't be tasteful to talk about."

The MP - who has been engaged to Cheeky Girl Gabriela Irimia and weather presenter Sian Lloyd - also spoke of his campaign to rid size zero models from the fashion industry.

Curvy Katie who is 5ft 10in tall and a size 12, lost her job because she was "too fat", Mr Opik said.

This showed an unhealthy attitude towards body size within the industry and should be changed, he said.

He went on: "It's always very flattering that everyone is always very interested about who I'm having relationships with."

A friend said the couple met at a party two months ago. "They're very close and she's smitten," claimed the pal. "They've been on several dates. She finds him witty and charming."
