Staff brand customers fat, pikey t**ts

ATTACKED: Primark shoppers
ATTACKED: Primark shoppers

WHAT size can I get for you madam . . . you fat, pikey t**t?

And would you like a bag with that - or a punch in the face?

Primark's customer service has been taken to a bizarre unofficial level by fed-up staff on a Facebook page.

They've flocked to the social network site to slam shoppers at the cut-price chain's 125 UK stores. One storms: "The money is s*** and the place is a market for pikeys." Another from Essex says of customers querying bills: "You want to punch them in the face."

Meanwhile a women's department assistant moans at "hefty" shoppers who need to "lose some f****** weight" instead of insisting they are a 16 "when they are obviously a 22 or 24".

And one worker blasts "t**t customers" who leave folded clothes in a mess, saying she wants to "dropkick them to the homeware department".

A Primark spokesman told us: "We are investigating this." Customers of the UK's second biggest clothes seller hit back at mocking staff. "You can't ridicule the people who keep you in business," said Selena James, 41, of Brighton, East Sussex.

Chloe Brooks, 32, a size 16 from Maidstone, Kent, said: "Primark is good for large sizes - but it's gutting to know some of their staff laugh at us."

i agree with the staff!

By steph. Posted July 5 2009 at 10:18 AM.

Who cares what they call us. I like to buy some stuff in Primark. I've never had a problem with their clothes, they wash well and keep their shape.

On the other hand, according to their salaries, it's not the staff that should be laughing at us.

By Sharon. Posted July 5 2009 at 10:10 AM.

Good on the staff. They seem to have 'know your customer' sussed out.

By Gwilym Rhys-Jones. Posted July 5 2009 at 10:14 AM.

Id actually like a trading standards person to go to primark and actually measure a so called size 18 top and let us know if its actually a size 18.

By m. Posted July 5 2009 at 9:51 AM.

This is an outrage havin an site to slag of customers These staff are so nasty they should be greatfull they have jobs, lets just face it primark would be the last place youd want to work if you were out of work, its your job to have good customers service and tidy up the clothes .
if they dont like why work there ?

primark need to change there customers service cause the staff dont even say hello to at tills ,
its the only high street store that make profit and get customers in there stores

By lynn ,aberdeen . Posted July 5 2009 at 9:50 AM.

I have never laughed so much. I can sympathise with both sides.
I run a small Supermarket in Magaluf, Mallorca, and 60% of the customers that come in treat me and my staff like idiots, and no doubt the same happens in stores such as Primark, so no wonder they now feel the need to vent some frustration.
things I have to deal with
1. customer flapping arms open and closed to simulate opening a news paper and asking (you sell the news paper?)
2. mimicking putting lipstick on asking for (chapstick)
3. fingers to mouth (cigerettes)
4. speaking in broken English missing out key info
5. Asking, do you have milk, from cow? (can you get milk from a duck? i dunno)

By PETE. Posted July 5 2009 at 9:36 AM.

Alot of Primark customers are Uni students who haven't got a big clothes budget.Nearly everyone I know shop there - from all walks of life.

The only thing that bugs me is the queuing at the Tills, Primark should have way way more and plenty more people to cover them especially on Saturdays - No wonder the staff moan

I have walked out and left a basket of stuff cos I didnt have time to wait more than once.

By Lilly. Posted July 5 2009 at 9:24 AM.

it is all to do with the way people are now ,where are your manners can you say please and thank you ,do you have to live your life with a constant attitude problem and have no respect for any one or any thing ? try being nice to each other it wont kill ya .

By Neal. Posted July 5 2009 at 9:02 AM.

I've shopped in Primark, fair play to the staff!

By sarah langley. Posted July 5 2009 at 9:00 AM.

i would have a breakdown working there , customers are horrible! why would you chuck clothes anyway , its all about upbringing.

By jessica. Posted July 5 2009 at 8:59 AM.

Take a look inside lets say the big Primark in Birmingham cith centre. Take a look around at the majority of customers. And you'll soon start singhing another tune. The majority of people who go in there for their bargains think the workers are their slaves who they can speak to as they wish. Its shocking.

By mark yates. Posted July 5 2009 at 8:59 AM.

Bone-idle selfish nasty customers, not all but so many are, especially clothes shops. I have seen first-hand, customer me.!

By sue. Posted July 5 2009 at 8:51 AM.

Oh behave all service industry take a pop at the customers now and again. I worked in a college where staff nick named the hair and beuty students tounge draggers as they were as thick as to short planks (not all were) .Thats life i think most sainsbury shoppers are the rudests bunch of middle class oiks going and daily mail readers are cut from the same cloth.

By Finchy. Posted July 5 2009 at 8:56 AM.

I worked with the public for 50 years, and i must say 50% of them are an unsult to humanity.
They respect no one,and because you work in a shop your are totally below them. Most of them want to look in the mirror at some stage, and they will see that they are no different than the rest of us.SHOP STAFF UNITE,YOUR BETTER THAN THIS.

I was store manager once, there was a girl who came in all the time and left the biggest mess imaginable, she used to dump unwanted items all over the floor.

She applied for a position in my shop, as she was a brilliant applicant, I offered her a job. She soon changed her ways after seeing the mess that was left behind on a daily basis, after a month of working, she actually apologised to all of the staff, for she realised just how bad she had been..she ended up being promoted to Visual Merchandiser..which is ironic I ended up with one of the most tidiest displays.

By Cardiffgal. Posted July 5 2009 at 8:47 AM.

How do we know that the people on 'Faceache' are bona fide workers.
Anyone can join in with these groups, and some of these people could possibly work for New Look etc, and just saying this to give Primark a bad name.

By Richard . Posted July 5 2009 at 8:38 AM.

This article is so funny! So what if they want to let off steam with their own facebook page, leave them alone! Whilst they are doing this, they are less likely to abuse any of the extremley rude, arrogant cutsomers they meet on a daily basis, who throw their many items of cheap clothes onto the counter and have the cheek to moan if the item is not as cheap as they thought it was!! If I worked in primark I would feel exactly the same, people assume that because the shop is cheap they can treat it like a jumble sale!!

By m. Posted July 5 2009 at 8:25 AM.

I agreee with some of the comments that the staff have made speakin from experience.
Some cutomers are rude and think THEY are right when clearly they are not..and make a mess how hard is it to fold a shirt or hang a top back up?
if i went into a office building and started meesing all the stuff on someones desk bet they woukdnt like it..
Its called respect..Unfortuly some customers lack it and have not paitent what sooo ever..people want things quick and easy...

By Jason Marchant. Posted July 5 2009 at 8:26 AM.

LOL LOL LOL!!!!

I think most service industry staff mock customers behind their backs, it's a way of blowing of steam.

Sometimes the mickey taking is warranted, sometimes unwarranted. In Primark's case, I would have to agree with the staff, it's a magnet for overweight chavvy people who treat Primark's display like a jumble sale.

Furthermore, why should we feel sorry for the customers, when garment makers in India and China are treated like slaves and earn only a couple quid a day!

By Neo. Posted July 5 2009 at 8:26 AM.

Totally agree with the staff. I've been in primark a couple of times and a significant number of customers behave like animals. They treat the store like a junk yard and have no respect for themselves nevermind the staff.

By Lisa. Posted July 5 2009 at 8:16 AM.

I work for McDonalds, I am grateful to have a job - which I have had for 17 years. I have a degree in Economics, so I am not stupid - but a portion of the general public (including some of the people who have left comments here) assume that people who work in the service industry are a bunch of morons. In fact some people look and speak to me like I am something that they just wiped off the bottom of their shoe - this has become progressively worse since I started. Parents are teaching their kids that "it's what their paid for" when leaving a mess and acting as though just by spending money it gives them the right to be rude and uncivil to staff. While the majority of customers are great and make my job enjoyable some really should get things in perspective and have a little respect in general for other people (these are the same people who act unsocially in all aspects of their lives - eg unruly neighbours, people who drop litter in the street, drivers who are abusive etc).
People (like some on this page) who sneer and look down their nose at staff who work in this industry - who for the most part tend to be part time students and working mums - ought to be a bit more compassionate, afterall if we all got educated and left our jobs who would you abuse when you're having a bad day, and who would smile pleasantly and take it?

By Sarah. Posted July 5 2009 at 8:02 AM.

some of these comments on here are shocking, why are you having a go at these people for doing their job? ok so the ones that this article is written about should be looked in to but im sure all the staff are not like that.

By Kirsty . Posted July 5 2009 at 8:00 AM.

..they're the one's we laugh at.. in the're school like uniforms slaving away..

By Me one... Posted July 5 2009 at 7:48 AM.

The truly snobbish comments from people about sales staff shows in the main the problem that most in shop work come across every day.. These same people are probably the ones who look down thier noses at sales staff, and make a mess in the stores.

Manners cost nothing, without shop staff how would you purchase your goods? A thank you costs nothing. I'm a butcher before anyone sneers at my 'Lowly' position.. Most of my customers are smashing because we are a local shop. When the tourists pitch up that is when manners seem to go out of the window. I am not invisible, although the way most can't even manage to make eye contact , let alone say thank you, you would think I was.

A few of Christmases ago I went into town and into New Look, i was running late and the shop was near to closing. it looked like a bomb had gone off, with clothes all over the floor. I commented to the girl who was doing her best to sort the mess that I couldnt believe the slobbish nature of customers..she said that they didnt get paid after six, yet had to have the store in a pristine condition for the morning...You see, you lot can drop the garments where you want, but spare a thought for the people who come behind you and DON'T get paid to clear up after you.

Remember, shop assistants are doing a job.. they aren't claiming dole or dossing, and yes it is hard and thankless work at times.
Theuniversal saying is the customer is always right...Well they are, but only until they leave the shop.

By deborah. Posted July 5 2009 at 7:19 AM.

If they didn't have any customers, would the job be easy enough then? Maybe Primark should just post their wages to them and they don't have to come in at all?

By Marlene. Posted July 5 2009 at 6:45 AM.

I think the staff have a point !

By STEPHEN J COLE. Posted July 5 2009 at 6:40 AM.

And the point is ..... I get it there are many punters out there who have no respect and feel it's ok to leave a half eaten hamburger on the racks or leave a mess on the floor .... Yes the staff have a job but primark in general appeal to a sector who have no respect .

By Neil. Posted July 5 2009 at 5:20 AM.

shops like this shouldnt even be on the market where these clothes are made is slavery as for the comments made by the primemark staff u should be thankful you have a job at this difficult time u choose to work in this ''chavy'' shop if u think ur better than it bloody leave but then again ud probably miss ur discount card to much

By jojo. Posted July 5 2009 at 4:56 AM.

Cheap clothing shop staff are illiterate baboons, instead of getting your knickers in a twist, why not get an education so you can enjoy a proper career?. When you work in a clothes shop it's your job to tidy up and serve customers (even if they ARE just browsing), that's all the job is, and all it ever will be. If you want variety and job satisfaction, get your lazy simpleton ars*s back to school.

By Pamela. Posted July 5 2009 at 4:16 AM.

The staff sound more like chavs serving chavs so no surprise their as Primark is the Mcdonald of the fashion market and as long as the staff can use the till as in touch the big button with the letters "T-SHIRT" if a t-shirt is in front of them just like monkeys playing games in the zoo.

By john richard. Posted July 5 2009 at 4:06 AM.

Yes. I remember reading that Beatrice [as in princess] was a customer.

By mary millar. Posted July 5 2009 at 3:11 AM.

Omg what the hell is wrong with these ppl in this climate where theres a lack of jobs they should be grateful that they got one, primark is bargain basement fashion its kitsch and cheap, ppl go there knowing its not designer and love it

By justine preece. Posted July 5 2009 at 2:57 AM.

why the hell would you want to shop in primark .its for chavs like kerry katona etc .

By Irene . Posted July 5 2009 at 2:40 AM.

I could never ever work in Primark. I work in a clothes shop and people piss me off on a daily basis. One of my pet hates is spending hours tidying the shop only for customers to come behind me and wreck the place there is no need for it. Some customers are so damn lazy all I ask is for you to at least put the item of clothing back on the hanger once you have finished trying it on. Some think it's acceptable to just dump unwanted items on the floor. How the employees restrain themselves from drop kicking them is beyond me. Give these employees a pay rise! O

By Jenna. Posted July 5 2009 at 2:10 AM.

If they want to have a moan about the customers so what. The only stupid thing they did was do it on the not at all private site facebook. Who hasnt had a moan about some customer or client they are dealing with. Dont take it so personal. No one is perfect. I bet some of you curse about the sales people, from time to time. Leave them alone.

By Angela Walters. Posted July 5 2009 at 1:34 AM.

maybe if primark shell out on air conditioning their staff won`t be so grumpy-it`s like a bloody greenhouse in there.

By lana. Posted July 5 2009 at 1:34 AM.

The staff have to take their frustrations out somehow. I work in a customer services for another company and one day I may flip and punch one of these rude whinging, stupid, self important moron, customers in the face.

By Phil. Posted July 5 2009 at 1:16 AM.

i have never get anything from primark. they are cheap and tacky. all the clothes looks like cleaning cloths. shame that primark is opening a store in the city centre of Edinburgh, it will attract all these people into the centre. i am definitely staying away from there. surely i don't want to get rob or beat up!

By tina. Posted July 5 2009 at 12:47 AM.

If you don't like it - get another job.. why not try McDonalds?

By amanda forth. Posted July 5 2009 at 12:28 AM.

Easy to have a go at customers. Stick with an education love and you might get a job where you can deal with the type of customer that is better suited to your high standards!!!!!!!!!!!!
Remember who pays your wages.

By Shocked. Posted July 5 2009 at 12:34 AM.

If they dont like the customers, they should quit and look for a job somewhere else.

By Kelly. Posted July 4 2009 at 11:40 PM.

retail has gone customer crazy

the employer says the customer is always right but do you know what the are not....

they spend less and think they are doing you a favour they spend a fiver as if it was a million pounds and expect you to smile and say have a nice day when they have just trashed your store and left with nothing.....

better still tried everything available and say...i will think about it ....

do you know what dont go to the store if you do not have any money do not try anything on of you have no intention of buying

and just remember the staff in the store are just doing there job and most of them are very good at it

so if you are not spending keep the place tidy do not try on and keep it real if you are big you will look big and if you have a face like a bag of hammers i will not change with a heel .....

have a nice day :-)))

By john hollinger. Posted July 4 2009 at 10:48 PM.

Oh come on all staff in any job hate there customers, from working in retail to call centers most customers are nice but the majority are always so rude to staff and often when challenged to take things up with a manager are to gutless to do so because they like to bully the staff! This is the UK we are talking about, the saying that the customer is always right is rollocks in my opinion.

Chav staff for Chav customers!
What do the latter expect?
I will stick with Austin Reed thank you very much.

By Susan Delaney. Posted July 4 2009 at 11:27 PM.

I know they have said these things but i think its more the staff being unhappy at work that having a jib at the customer, I have worked for many customer service roles and we you are over worked underpaid, with bad management you do get unhappy and take it out on the customers bescause you really don't care, however i have worked for a company which treated everyone well with training and progression, they gave excellent customer service because they were happy, on the next not i do shop at primark and there are some horrible people shopping there screaming kids that are out of control and people do pick up clothes and throw them about - they wouldn't do that in next, don't pick on the staff this is a management issue!

By Boltonbird. Posted July 4 2009 at 11:07 PM.

Nasty, nasty people, why do these morons work with the public if they hate them so much, what is their problem ? You need to sort this out, pronto, Primark.
