Killers paid to study

SOME of Britain's most evil killers are being paid GRANTS to study for Open University degrees at Broadmoor.

A loophole means they qualify for the £250 payments because they are classified as patients at the high-security psychiatric hospital - not prisoners, who are banned from applying for funding.

Moors murderer Myra Hindley got a humanities degree at Broadmoor.

Patients study under supervision and bank the dosh because they have no outgoings.

Yet ordinary cash-strapped students struggle to obtain funding.

The OU - under threat of closing eight regional centres - has 33 students in secure institutions receiving financial support.

The West London Mental Health Trust, which runs Broadmoor, said: "Patients can apply for financial awards from the Open University in the same way as the public. Educational therapy is encouraged."

BABY P's evil stepdad has become prison mates with child killer Roy Whiting and paedophile Sidney Cooke.

They play CHESS, cards and watch TV together at Wakefield Jail, Yorks. The stepdad, 32, was jailed indefinitely over the Baby Peter's death and for raping a girl of two.
