Wayne Rooney talks baldie cure

ON me 'ead, son! England star Wayne Rooney is to be treated with a controversial drug to cure his baldness.

The £100,000-a-week Man United striker will take a daily tablet of Finasteride plus scalp lotion to block hormones causing his hair to fall out.

Until this year the drug was BANNED in sport as it could mask steroids. Now it's legal and Rooney, 23 - who shaves his head to avoid the Bobby Charlton look - has already had a consultation.

After years of "slaphead" jibes from team-mates he plans to kick off the £100-a-month treatment as soon as the football season is over.

null

A pal said: "Wayne's wanted this so long. It won't suddenly give him a head of hair but will stop the rot."

There was just one word of caution from the drug's pioneer. US doctor Robert M. Bernstein said: "One in 500 people can suffer breast enlargement from the treatment."

Now that WOULD spark some ribbing in the dressing room.

Tell no one to touch your head again especially chris Ronald, who thinks he's handsome and skillful of which he is.

I think he should be allowed to do what he likes, and not what other people think he should do. It's up to him, it's his hair, he should do what HE THINKS makes him feel good and look good. Some people just so insensitive, they just don't understand the psychological effect it has on some people, and I hate the saying 'oh, just accept it'. That seems to be what everyone says, and that makes everything alright does it? I don't think so. Why should you accept it.

There's a good story about Rooney's hair loss on the Belgravia Centre blog. Type 'Rooney hair loss' in Google and it comes up at the top. It contains a before/after photo of Rooney's hair since 2006 - huge difference.

Hi Wayne congratulations to you and the rest of the lads for making me so happy after seeing Manchester united, lift the premiership trophy.I do believe that you are like myself,in the way of being a fairly quiet type of guy that sometimes snaps and looses the plot when others make fun of you.I'm well awhere of the so called british houmour that is so cold and jealous that it makes people feel happy to make fun of another person knowing that their jibes make them feel low.I know you earn alot of money, but this may not save your hair and you may not have the looks of a model ,but remember this you have a beautiful wife and hopefully a beautiful child soon. You are an excellent football player,i'm a massive fan of yours, just keep striving for you and your nearest and dearest.let all the negative people who like to have a go rot in hell,i'm 100% sure if their child was constantley taunted they would scream "its bullying" chinn up Wayne Rooney, your a football star.!!!!

Seeing as he'll still shave his head anyway even if he does have hair why doesn't he just have a hair stubble tattoo?

By UrbanMagellan. Posted May 17 2009 at 2:09 PM.

you are never be as handsome as SHREK so why bother, and colleen did definately not marry you for your looks.

By maurice johnson. Posted May 17 2009 at 2:33 PM.

I tried the pills and lotion and they don't work, your wasting your time Rooney, much better just to accept it. After all, over millions of years of evolution, we have turned from very hairy creatures into almost completely hairless ones - who wants hair anyway. Be happy with yourself and you won't give a dam what other people say. Ignore them rooney and concentrate on your football and not your lack of hair on top.

Strewth! If I could stuff £100,000-a-week into my wallet, I wouldn´t care if I had hair on my head or not!

By Grimbo. Posted May 17 2009 at 2:20 PM.

What does it matter? Many women find bald blokes very sexy. As a bloke who lost my hair in my early 20's I've been told I look much better without it...

It's also a damn sight easier to manage than farting around with gel's & spending ages in front of the mirror !!! + I'll never have a "bad hair day" !!

Bald & proud !

By LondonGuy. Posted May 17 2009 at 2:30 PM.

For gods sake man!!
Just accept that your losing your hair, its not as though your going to lose your missus over it as she has already married you & is prgnant with your kid.
get a grip on reality, you look miles better with a shaved head.

By Vicki. Posted May 17 2009 at 12:31 PM.

Horrible, horrible nasty people commenting on this page, take a good look in the mirror - are you perfect?

By siouxy. Posted May 17 2009 at 1:02 PM.

He should stay clear of the pills. Yes, he's probably getting stick for balding at a young age, but so what? It doesn't matter and I'm sure Colleen doesn't care. I wouldn't!

By Jane. Posted May 17 2009 at 1:11 PM.

give the guy a break. i recommend he keep his hair short, look at a 'plant' when he has the time and use toppik to thicken what he has for now.

rooneys not going bald his head is growing through his hair

By wilf. Posted May 17 2009 at 11:04 AM.

Whats wrong with him having a 'babys head?'
He acts like one!!!!

By mike. Posted May 17 2009 at 11:01 AM.

Im a west ham fan. Wayne, you're a top footballer mate. Your life is played out in front of the worlds media and we can see your hair loss everyday. it would be starnge if you suddenly starting regaining it again. This is the real world mate, accept it and move on Your wife loves you as you are i imagine. Those people that say you're ugly are shallow. Why should you be pretty. You're a man and i suspect have no interest in winning beauty competitions. Just focus on your footy and your family and let nature do it's thing

By ricky broomfield. Posted May 17 2009 at 10:44 AM.

This treatmen wont work Rooney hair loss is too advanced. The poor chap cant even have a Hair Transplant - the donor area looks short of supply if went for it would be 5000+ grafts.

By jet. Posted May 17 2009 at 10:41 AM.

Who cares.Live with it-like loads of poor blokes have to.

By mrs_spratt. Posted May 17 2009 at 10:09 AM.

I can understand Wayne Rooneys desire not to look like the majority of English football spectators. Football crowds and pubs are full of fat, bald men sporting man boobs. You can understand Police struggling to identify one in the crowd as they all look like clones and not a pretty sight!

By Maria. Posted May 17 2009 at 10:01 AM.

I understand how he feels. My hair started receding when I was in my late teens. Luckily my condition was very mild but it was a worrying time for a young lad.

Wayne's hair loss is too aggressive and I don't think Finasteride will be enough. He's already lost too much, his best course would be to get a number 1 haircut and accept it. Until the scientists perfect hair cloning - then his hair can be restored properly.

Just ignore all the childish immature
comments wayne son...........BALDY.!!!

By Joe Shirley. Posted May 17 2009 at 9:39 AM.

will it be legal in the drug testing sportsman have to undergo? Or will being ugly be enough still for the nurses to avoid him.

Can't wait to see the new Mna Utd strip, comes in a b-dd cup and sponsored by playtex.
Get a life you ugly G*t.

By lea. Posted May 17 2009 at 8:54 AM.

shave your head wayne you will not be a laughing stock then its the in thing these days any way why worry about it its not a big deal its only hair

By gaz. Posted May 17 2009 at 8:52 AM.

He can be as baldy as you like as long as he still scores enough to keep liverpool in their rightful place-also rans.

By JOHN. Posted May 17 2009 at 9:29 AM.

so what if he is losing his her as long as his feet are ok he has the money for transplant but he wud not look right with her go bald lad good luck

By carrie. Posted May 17 2009 at 9:27 AM.

My daughter has a training bra at the ready for shrek

As for hair restorer......does it also restore good looks?..cos if so..he needs a shed load of it

By jaye. Posted May 17 2009 at 8:59 AM.

Some of the childish comments on here, say far more about the person writing them than they do about Wayne.
Male pattern baldness is very distressing and no I am not a man and not a Man U fan either.
This happened to my lovely son-in-law, so he shaves his head, now some years on, I cannot even remember him with hair and when I look at photos, personally I think he looks better without it. He is a very lovely, kind caring man, this is what counts not the condition of his hair/scalp.

By Liz. Posted May 17 2009 at 8:56 AM.

I think the some of comments posted so far in response to this article amount to BULLYING...you should be ashamed of yourselves...what's it got to do with you anyway ? ...mind your own business...and keep your nasty comments to yourself. And NO I am not a Manu fan either !!

By Linda . Posted May 17 2009 at 7:44 AM.

Will this drug stop him being ugly too?
As for the breast enlargement, no-one will notice.

By Joe. Posted May 17 2009 at 5:24 AM.

let it grow and wear a bobby charlton with pride!

By mark. Posted May 17 2009 at 3:58 AM.

HAHAHAH. Rooney using drug to cure baldness. wow. side effect: "One in 500 people can suffer breast enlargement from the treatment."

Bald+ breast=Rooney

By KOLA. Posted May 17 2009 at 3:48 AM.

I would tell my team 'mates' to concentrate on themselves and take a look in a charcater mirror before trying to become personal and rude. I would not change for anyone, only for myself. Stupid, childish footballers.

By Andy. Posted May 17 2009 at 2:36 AM.

Hair is over rated but I understand the worry it gives a bloke. I lost mine in my 20s but strangely had more success with women than I ever did with hair. Just keep it short and be confident.
The papers are full of ads trying to shame you into expensive and ineffective treatments by using words like "cure" as if it is a disease, they just prey on insecurities.

By Dave. Posted May 17 2009 at 2:26 AM.

Now all he has to do is find an antidote for ugliness

By Keith. Posted May 17 2009 at 1:21 AM.

rooney is a 32b cup now, heaven knows what he may develop, oooh fancy having hairy nipples too.he might even get caught offside more times.than usual because he is so out frontntell him to becareful

By phil. Posted May 17 2009 at 12:49 AM.

shrek has no hair..................

By paul. Posted May 17 2009 at 12:36 AM.

Rooney dont worry much about that,he will prefer to be like that rather that used that tablet,he is just a football not a model.

By tracy. Posted May 16 2009 at 11:42 PM.

Dont understand. As it wont grow his hair back wont he still have a 'slaphead'???

By Jon. Posted May 16 2009 at 11:31 PM.

finasteride can also kill sex drive for a lot of people (though that is reversed when you stop taking them), and can cause some men to grow breasts (which can only be reversed with surgery) so take it with care! As a pro sportsman I think he should steer clear!

By mart. Posted May 16 2009 at 11:22 PM.

Prince william should take note...
