THE tearful parents of a Para killed in Afghanistan on Friday have paid tribute to their "perfect son".

Pte Jason Rawstron, 23, was shot when his squad from 2 Para were ambushed by the Taliban in Sangin Valley.

Mum Mandy said: "We are all so proud of Jason- and although he was taken from us after 23 years, they were 23 years of joy. He was the perfect son, grandson, brother and boyfriend."

Dad Gary added: "I wish I could take Jason's place and have him home. I will miss you, son."

Jason, of Clayton-Le-Moors, Lancs, leaves his brother Graham, and girlfriend Michaela. He was nicknamed "Suspect" by pals due to his cheeky sense of humour.

My condolences to Jason's family I am so upset after reading this sad story. I have freinds and family who are in the army and it is a constant worry when you read and hear things like this happening. What makes it worse is that the British people do not seem to be behind or respect our armed forces and the dangers that they are facing but would rather listen the to media about their every little so called wrong doing. Wonder how the critics would manage if they were out there risking their lives.

We have too many articles in the newspapes regarding celebrities and not enough about the brave soldiers who are trying their best to bring about democracy and peace in places such as Iraq and Afghanistan. No people would rather read about jumped up people such as Paul McCartney or openly revile his ex-wife Heather who you would think had committed mass murder. It is time for the media to get its priorities right and highlight the plight of out troops. There is a registered charity called Troop Aid who help the injured soldiers once back in Britain.
