Kate's well-known face is plastered on a website and glossy brochure pushing EIGHTY-FOUR princess-theme products-from tiaras and dresses to wands and fairytale stagecoaches.
And it means her parents' multi-million-pound Party Pieces company in leafy royal Berkshire is directly benefiting from her five-year courtship with the 26-year-old Prince.
Last night an inside source said: "This is plainly cashing in on palace connections and the royals aren't going to like it. Kate is a famous woman ONLY because of William and it's clear to see that any product she endorses with a regal connection will sell.
"There's a very real concern that what she's doing trivialises the name of the British monarchy."
Kate, 27-dubbed "princess in waiting" by pals-has been involved with the party supplies business since early last year but started working full time in September after the Queen expressed concern about her lack of career.
She is in charge of the website design and helps to bring in new business. And since she went full-time, the company has introduced five EXTRA products playing on the princess link.
The princess range is a major chunk of the family business developed by Kate's parents Carole, 54, and Michael, 59, who live at Bucklebury, Berkshire.
Their selection linked to blockbuster movie High School Musical 3 boasts just 15 products and the hugely popular Harry Potter inspires only 13 items.
Most expensive is the Pink Princess Trike at £249.99, while a Princess Pink House bookcase costs a hefty £99.99.
Princess dresses cost £19.99 and the Princess dress-up doll is £12.99. Then there are Princess party invites, cups, treasure chests, table covers and place mats costing between 30p and a fiver. The pencil sharpener is £2.99 and a Princess wand-making kit goes for £9.99. They cover two full pages in the firm's latest catalogue, again emblazoned with Kate's face alongside Mum and a colleague called Vicky.
Our source added: "When the Queen wanted Kate to work she'd never imagine the family would use her connections to the monarchy in such an obvious way. It's no surprise the princess lines sell better than most. Cynics might think the company sees Kate's relationship with Wills as a marketing opportunity to exploit.
"It's no secret Kate would love to see Wills get down on one knee. It would be terrible if something like this jeopardised that."

Kate is doing a good job. I still don't see a ring on her finger.
Every girl likes princess items, and Harry Potter items. What? Should she run her own restaurant or something?
By mcnally.. Posted August 27 2009 at 3:56 AM.
For goodness sake. She works - she's wrong. If she doesn't she is wrong too. Really, what on earth do you want from this girl who's only "big mistake" was to fall in love!
By jacqui.. Posted August 18 2009 at 10:00 AM.
I have only seen Kate Middleton as very classy and likeable. Why not allow her to be a role model to little girls by including them to wear beautiful and tasteful costumes? I wish all little girls would look to Kate Middleton and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark as role models .... the world would be a more decent place!

Kate sounds like a horrific person. Nasty self absorbed and a not a person I would see as suitable to be the wife of the supposed King. She will be his downfall and the downfall of the royal family who are currently tolerated even with their excessive lifestyles and self absorded concerns. Do you really think they care about anyone else except themselves. They are discusting.

James.
You have perfectly described Camilla PB, Charles' 'wife'.

it's very cheap in someways and it shows how ignorant she is to think this stunt is not going to look bad for her.
By chai.. Posted April 10 2009 at 3:18 AM.
She does seem to be of parasitic tendendancies, freeloading off her parents through uni, then at their company and she is hoping to free load off the rest of us when the other bunch of freeloaders allow her into their club and prince william puts a ring on her finger. What on earth do we pay these people for? In this credit crunch time there is no way on earth this hypocrites need several castles to live in, oh yes except WE the tax payers are paying for all their excesses!, with homes, holidays, protection, tax fee everything, no inheritance tax, etc. etc. etc. hmm..... whom wouldnt want to be a princess ?

Do people really order this tacky rubbish?
By Alex .. Posted March 25 2009 at 10:28 PM.
Damned if you do and damned if you don't. If they didn't have themed Princess Parties they would be criticised as well. Its not as if they have recently invented them.

To all those with chips on their shouders and are plainly jealous of Miss Midldleton, get a life.

As much as I have doubts about Kate Middleton and her true motives, I don't believe this is a calculated act on the part of her parent's company. Prince William has an agenda as does KM she has plans to marry him at the earliest opportunity, I don't think selling 'Princess' items will sway PW down that aisle any quicker. I just think he has got into a rut and will marry the girl anyway because life is too hard for him to go out looking for anyone else. If he does marry her, she may be meek and mild and eager to please at the moment, but once that ring is on her finger, the worm will turn.......she will wear the trousers and make him pay for the years she has waited for him to make a decision about her.

Loyalty before royalty. The Middleton family is prosperous on their own. They raised a daughter and hired her to work for them. So what is she to do? But be loyal to the company that supports their livelihood. They are showing hard work and smart marketing. Excellent business sense I would say.The prince should be pleased to have a business woman at his side who can help him manage his Duchy someday.

What an interesting idea, giving little girls Princess themed birthday parties. I bet they NEVER would have come up with that idea if Kate wasn't dating Prince William.
Please, my daughter is 4 and doesn't even know that there are princesses besides Cinderella and Snow White.

Oh, I've just looked at the website out of curiosity and the photo is on the homepage but is quite small that you wouldnt even recognise it was Kate.
By Shannon.. Posted March 22 2009 at 9:20 PM.
Another mountain out of a molehill. Why dont she just become the Queens robot, that will satisfy the royals.
By Shannon.. Posted March 22 2009 at 9:18 PM.
also, she did have a job at a high end clothing company, but was told to leave (by 'them') as her royal duties came first...
so what is the girl to do??
By cc.. Posted March 22 2009 at 7:19 PM.
if she works and get paid (and pays tax)to earn a living, she is said to be cashing in on her relasionship with the royals,if she do'snt work she's a free loader, like prinsses diana, she can't do right for doing rong,i blame prince william,if he was to pull his finger out and marry her she would know where she stood and work for free!!!!!!!!!
By janet curran.. Posted March 22 2009 at 12:33 PM.
My question is which came first? The family business selling princess dresses etc or Kate's relationship with a prince. if it was business first good for them. If it was relationship first I would say the parents are cashing in on it and they are the ones to be condemned. I would also say it is slightly niave of Kate to think she can get involved with something like this without getting a lot of negative press for it.

Having 2 young children, I use Party Pieces regularly.
I had to check the brochure for her photo as I had never noticed it before reading the paper today!
Of course the princess range is popular, there are lots of little girls in the world who love to dress up and celebrate birthdays surrounded by all things pink and sparkly - it didn't matter to me who was selling the products, as long as I could get them! And I must say I am very happy with and will continue to use Partypieces in the future, regardless.
By Nicki.. Posted March 22 2009 at 10:27 AM.
Most little girls love a princess theme and if you look around, a lot of things have princess written on them! Some people just want to have a pop at her for some reason. Kate is not our girlfriend, she's William's. Leave them alone for goodness sake.
By MrsMac.. Posted March 22 2009 at 9:55 AM.
Why is there such an uproar? shes not using her 'royal connections' to promote the company - EVERY party company offers princess themed parties. What on earth has this poor girl done to anyone? She is obviously a sweet girl for william to be with her in the first place, just leave the poor girl alone!

Prince William is a bright intelligent young man and of course he will never get married to this girl. If he was really interested he would have got down on one knee by now but he hasn't.
Leave him alone to enjoy some fun and hopefully he will meet the woman of his dreams soon!!!
By Jeanette.. Posted March 22 2009 at 9:05 AM.
Kate Middleton is a pushy social climber with no proper career other than the job mummy and daddy created for her. If William really liked her he would have married her by now.
By Bunny.. Posted March 22 2009 at 8:06 AM.
Get a life - leave her alone.
By LJS.. Posted March 22 2009 at 7:18 AM.
well, well what a surprise advertise knowing the connection to the royal family, she will never be a good as Diane, she is going to be another fergie.
By jean.. Posted March 22 2009 at 7:13 AM.
What's wrong with you people???? She's done nothing wrong!!! Leave her along for God's sake!!! What's up with this common....too common..can't do nothing right....wisteria girl???? What's up with that?? She's damned if she does and dammed if she doesn't. You socialistic class stunted individuals need a life.
By sylvia.. Posted March 22 2009 at 6:43 AM.
Oh please, i'm no Kate fan, but she's hardly "using her connections to the monarchy in such an obvious way".
Princess themed parties are very common among young girls, it would be more newsworthy if a party company, be it the Middleton's or not, DIDN'T stock princess products.
By Kate.. Posted March 22 2009 at 5:56 AM.
Kate got a job after conserns were shown by the Queen that she had no carrear... lets think about this if she had got a job selling cars or even fast food or selling clothes they would have all been deemed unsuitable,as she would be used by the company due to her royal connections! Kate has gone to work with her parents in their company it just happens to be a party company.. every child at some point wants to be a prince or princess so they supply what is wanted by the customer, if Kate was wearing the costumes in the brochure then it would be differant but she is not . Party pieces is a well established company selling party items and has done so long before Kate became involved with William,
Leave Kate alone she got one of the few jobs she could have done because with her connections with the royal family anything else would have also been frowned on!
By Tracy Gardner.. Posted March 22 2009 at 5:24 AM.
Party, party, party. Is that al the young royals are about? Even this woman's job is connected to parties. Get a proper job.
By dee.. Posted March 22 2009 at 4:44 AM.
I sort of see this two ways. On the one hand you can't really fault Kate for several reasons:
1. As an employee, she has to do what her bosses want;
2. It is her parents business so therefore she has a personal interest in the success / failure;
However on the other hand:
1. She is not a princess, at least not as yet;
2. If they really intended to use her Royal connections to promote the business, she / they, should have checked with her royal connections regarding an ok to use her connection to the royal family (& the possibility of a marriage & therefore eventually becoming a princess in truth). Even if it was not initially intended to be seen in this way (I don't know since I have not seen the picture in question) and since others do see it that way, it should still have been approved by at least Prince Charles (I would have said Prince William, but he may be too close to the subject to make an unbiased judgement call).
By Kathryn.. Posted March 22 2009 at 3:08 AM.
Somehow I do not see Kate cashing in on her Royal connections. Party pieces have been selling these products for TEN years. She has only known William for 6 of those years.
By Betty Saunders.. Posted March 22 2009 at 3:43 AM.
This is ridiculous. I have used this company to host a Princess party for my daughter way before Kate and Wills were an item. Lots of little girls want to have a Princess Party and any party company worth it's salt stocks these items. Princesses will always be a popular theme with little girls whilst High School Musical etc will come and go. Leave the girl alone for gods sake.
By bee.. Posted March 22 2009 at 3:40 AM.
god leave her alone other people and companies do princess dresses etc, so why cant she there not replicers of the real thing
By liz.. Posted March 22 2009 at 3:48 AM.
Mmm, for someone who could one day be Princess of Wales she should really have more sense
By scotsguy.. Posted March 22 2009 at 2:57 AM.
They do say it's not what you know, but who you know!
By Sally.. Posted March 22 2009 at 2:27 AM.
I like Kate and her family have a party and celebration business of course there will be Princess creations as little girls love them. My little grandaughters love the Princess theme. William is happy with Kate but it always seems as if some people are to be spiteful and petty about her. As for being common I don't think so. Can hardly call her an opportunist either as William fell in love with Kate when they were at Uni together. I say good luck to both of them.
By Kathy.. Posted March 22 2009 at 2:05 AM.
For anyone that didn't know Kate's family have had a party company for years. As someone that works with children and having been a child myself, I can safely say that many young girls' birthday parties are princess themed. They'd be a rubbish company if they ignored that part of the market. As Kate now works for the company she has her picture in their literature. I'm sure that someone who is intelligent enough to go to St Andrews would not promote products in the way the article suggests. Let her get on with it, at least she's not a buyer for jigsaw anymore, let's face it, she hardly sets the fashion world on fire.
By Lauren.. Posted March 22 2009 at 1:32 AM.
She is so common and a opportunist.
Not Queen material

By gran.. Posted March 21 2009 at 11:22 PM.
Very good for her. The royal family will be happy...!
By Mary.. Posted March 21 2009 at 11:22 PM.
Oh, do get over yourselves.
Every party company, everywhere in the world, offers princess parties.
If the royals are so precious they want to exercise restraint of trade over this minor non-issue, wouldn't Kate (and the rest of us) be better of without this self-absorbed bunch of spongers and their fawning courtiers?
