CANCER victim Jade Goody was last night just hours from death.

As family and close friends gathered at her bedside yesterday one pal warned: "It IS now a matter of hours, she has deteriorated dramatically overnight. Sadly she is very close to the end."

The friend then told how, when the truth sank in on Friday night, reality TV star Jade cried out in terror, screaming for husband Jack Tweed.

"One of the problems is she's terrified of falling asleep because she's afraid she'll never wake up," said the source.

"That means she completely exhausts herself. It was terrible."

New hubby Jack, 21, revealed how he, too, panicked when told Jade's condition had taken a turn for the worse on Friday.

Fearing it was all over, he dashed to his wife's bedside at her home in Upshire, Essex, after asking Home Office officials to lift the curfew imposed after his early release from a jail sentence for assault.

"When I got the call I was absolutely terrified," he said. "The thought that our fairytale could be over already filled me with dread and sadness."

Big Brother legend Jade's spokesman Max Clifford confirmed: "She has deteriorated. She is very weak. The answer is, who knows? We are on the edge of a precipice." All but close family and friends have been told Jade, just 27, can no longer see visitors.

The new curfew rules set by hubby Jack's parole officers mean he can stay with her round-the-clock rather than having to report to his mother's house 30 minutes away.

And late last night Jade's grandparents Sylvia and John were expected to join the vigil.

FRAIL: Stricken star in ambulance

Yesterday Jade's mum Jackiey Budden was in tears as she passed on the sad news to pals that her daughter knew her precious time was finally up.

Jade was asleep most of the day but when Jackiey emerged to let in nursing staff she was clearly distraught.

A friend said: "She's been crying her eyes out, she's been in floods of tears because she too realises it's nearly the end of the road.

"The family were told maybe Jade would make it to Tuesday but after such a bad night that's been revised to Monday and maybe sooner.

"She's in a very bad way and has been in so much awful pain.

"They've given her a lot of medication and she's been in a deep sleep most of the day and hasn't woken up.

"But Jade's getting weaker and weaker and is looking very pale.

"We all knew it was getting close when she couldn't even raise a smile or give a thumbs-up when she was taken home from hospital on Wednesday.

"She's gone downhill a lot since then and everyone around her is really upset. Her mum Jackiey is in pieces.

"Everyone knew this was going to happen, but it's still desperately sad."

Reality TV favourite Jade is being cared for by a team of dedicated specialist nurses.

And yesterday Jackiey, 50, just couldn't stop herself giving the carer who looked after her daughter overnight a huge cuddle. The emotional mum clasped the departing carer tightly before opening the gates to the house at 9.20am.

Behind her sunglasses Jackiey looked drained and exhausted. She couldn't bring herself to talk about Jade's worsening condition but she was there manning the front door when two extra medics arrived at 11.30am.

Farewell

In a brief snatched escape from all the stress, Jackiey later took a 10-minute afternoon trip to the local post office and supermarket to buy some lottery tickets but it was all too much for her and she burst into tears again.

She was then taken for a drive by close family friend, and Jade's personal trainer, Kevin Adams. to buy fresh flowers as a gift for the nurses.

More flowers, in the shape of two bouquets from well-wishers, arrived later in the day.

Then came a moment of unwanted drama as two born-again Christians trespassed onto the property and shouted up at Jade's window in an attempt to speak to the ailing star. But the women were ushered away by a concerned neighbour.

The tension rose again at about 5.30pm when a doctor arrived in a silver Audi and, carrying his medical bag, entered the house. He left at about 7.50pm.

With time slipping away fast, Jade has already planned her funeral, insisting it should be a celebration of her life.

She wants a traditional burial and a service will be held at a church near her home.

Jade's spokesman said: "The funeral will be a reflection of how she's lived in the last seven years (since she first found fame in Big Brother)-full on.

DISTRAUGHT: Jackiey yesterday

"She wants to say farewell to anyone who wants to be there. It will mirror the happiest seven years of her life.

"There will be tears, but a lot of love and laughter as well."

Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty is making a dramatic dash from India in a bid to see Jade one last time before she dies. The pair clashed on 2007 Celebrity Big Brother, but later became friends.

Jade was starring on India's version of the show, hosted by Shilpa, when she was told she was suffering from cervical cancer last August. At first she was given a reasonable chance of survival but her cancer spread quickly.

Yesterday, there was no sign of Jade's two sons, five-year-old Bobby and Freddie, four, who are being looked after by relatives. The boys visited their mum on Thursday with their father, Jade's former partner TV presenter Jeff Brazier.

Knowing the situation, Jade discharged herself from the Royal Marsden Hospital on Wednesday so she could spend these final days at home with her loved ones all around her.

She has tried to keep life as normal as possible for her children, insisting they keep to their school routine.

A friend said: "Jade's been incredibly brave and is just so pleased that she was able to marry Jack in time and be christened with her boys.

"Those were her final wishes so that she could be close to them when she's gone."

SUNDAY 6PM UPDATE: Jade's young sons visited her at home on Sunday with their cancer-stricken mum close to death.

The former Big Brother star's condition had deteriorated over the weekend and she spent much of the day sleeping and under sedation.

But she was briefly conscious of boys, Bobby, five, and Freddy, four, and smiled when she saw them, her friend and publicist Max Clifford said.

The boys were seen arriving at the house holding books and DVDs.

Later, with their faces painted, they played in the garden of the Essex home, along with Jade's mum Jackiey and husband Jack.

The family had been hoping for friends and loved ones to visit over the weekend for an early Mother's Day celebration, but Mr Clifford said she had not been well enough.

"The boys went to see her and she was aware of them for a brief moment or two," he said. "She saw them and she smiled.

"She has put her house in order and faced up to everything in an incredibly brave way.

"Now we're waiting for the inevitable, it could be at any time, we just don't know."

A priest also visited Jade this morning to say prayers and blessings.

Jade has told her sons, who are staying with their father, TV presenter Jeff Brazier, she will soon be in heaven.

i just want to say i know what jade and her family and children are going through as myself at the age of 5 watched my mother be sick everyday with breast cancer even though she survuved till i was 13 it still was a shock and i dont know how much pain you jade could be in but keep up the figh till there is no more in you. my mother faught till the end and once she new me and my brother were in gud hands she eventually gave in. But ur boys will be very proud of u now and in the future. i hope u survive and fight the most u can but if u cant let go no one will deprive u or hate u for letting go u will alway have a place in my heart u and ur children will be in everyones prayers! xx

i have been reading about you now for about 2 weeks
its brings me to tears . You was my biggest fan in Big brother and now its coming to an end. Your such a brave lady.Its not nice reading that your in pain but you keep a brave face on for your son's that's a true mother, when your son's are older they will see how much you loved them how much you cared for them and how much you will miss them . my grandad died on christmas day 2008 from bowel cancer.. he had the poem Do Not Stand At My Grave And Weep at his funeral..... and i thought you might like to hear it....(I was really touched by it)

i feel sorry for anybody that dies of cancer and especially in Jades case.

What a insperation you are, I hope you will help make a change with the age limit on tests for Cervical cancer.
You letting everyone seeing what it can do to young women.

to all jades family my thoughts are with you at this sadderning time Friendship angel poems :

When your boys have no one to turn to
And they're feeling kind of low,
When there is no one to talk to
And nowhere they want to go,
they search deep within themselfs
It is the love inside they're heart
That lets them know your Angels are there
Even though your are miles apart.

A smile then appears upon theyre face
And the sun begins to shine.
I hear a voice, so soft and sweet
Saying, 'Everything will be just fine'
It may seem that I am alone
But they are never by themselfs at all.
Whenever I need my Angels near
All they have to do is call.

An Angel's love is always true
On that you can depend.

DEAR JADE,
I am forever seeing how you are, my thoughts are with you and your special family. You have done all that you can do and you should be sooo proud of what you have achieved. I love you and the way you are, loud, fun and forever making people laugh.
You have looked after your boys and provided for all their years ahead. Let the angels look after you in the same way.
You will be always in my heart and im having the same heart tattoo's as you have, so i can look at them and hopefully they will give me a small amount of courage and kindness you have given others.

Y is this happening, y are you taking her away from her sooo young boys, i really dont understand!
Its a good job she`s the strong & lovely person she is because i would never ever give up fighting to stay with my 3 children!!!! But with the cancer you have riddled through her body there is nothing the poor beautiful girl can do!
Im so so sorry this is happening to you Jade, i wish i could help in some way!
I for sure am going to miss you.
LIfe is so unfair & thats all i have to say becasue im so upset & angry.

i am so upset that you havent got long to live =( i was watching your wedding the other night and it just made me cry but i made it to the end =). you was just so happy and smiling with your lovely hubby Jack Tweed and Freddie and Bobby, im just so happy for you. your sons will be very looked after by their lovely, amazing daddys =) and when they come older, when they understand, your family will tell them how brave you were and how you did this for them, they will understand some day =).

You are an inspiration to me and other people out there! I have always followed you in what you do!
You are a credit to Bobby and Freddie and im sure they love you very very much. I watched your wedding documentries and they were really lovely and im very sure Jack is really proud of you!! This is going to be a hard time for your family and friends but they should also look at the happy times they shared with you.

Jade, I remember the first time seeing you on Big Brother and thought that you were so funny. You really made people laugh, whether they will admit it or not! I always read about you in everything you did. You were a true inspiration to us all. You worked hard to get were you did! Not everyone would agree with how you made your fame, but given the chance anyone would take it too!
I hope you aren't in too much pain and remember all the times you laughed. Your two boys will learn in time just how great and a truely amazing person you are.
