Even though hes done a bad thing how many of you people can say you haven't either. And dont say because he's a role model and your not, beacuse that isn't true your role models in your community. I still love Michael Phelps swimming. Wow, some people are too imature to see that everyone has regrets. Only his was caught on film and shown to the world. I would still love to get training by him and get to meet him someday. Michael, Your an amazing swimmer and i've never doubted you.

Weed isnt even that bad. alcohol kills more ppl a year than weed ever has so ppl who think he is a bad person for letting loose, give him a break. hes a human being. he isnt perfect. and he even made an apologee. he knows what he did was wrong. cut him some slack. i think he is a very RESPONSIBLE and INTELLIGENT, LUCKY MAN. he is an icon and many ppl look up to him. i will be cheering for him in the up coming olympics that he DESERVES to be in. thats all im saying.

Everyone who's getting all worked up over some weed is an ignorant tool or a kid. He's an amazing athlete, he's accomplished so much, you think a bit of weed is going to ruin his career or physical being? The only problem is that marijuana is illegal and people believe into all this drug war propaganda BS. A substance that you can't OD on, is used by millions of people, safer than alcohol and tobacco which are both LEGAL, the list goes on. Are any of you 14 time olympic gold medalists? No one is perfect. Michael Phelps made a mistake and he is sorry for that. He did apologise.

I also believe that he has learnt the biggest lesson in all his life, something that he will not wish to repeat again ever.

The best way that we really do learn is by making mistakes and correcting them. This is the way the creator has created us.

Phelps was, and still is an amazing swimmer. he is a hero to many, but now a dissapointment to many as well. I do agree that he is a role model to the entire world, but i dont think he should be chopped up and fed to the wolves (so to speake) because of a dumb decision. He is still a kid. When i think of the pressure he is under, it makes me wonder if he ever did things normal kids did. altho this was a drastic and stupid kid decision, im sure he learned from it. Mistakes can either make or break a person, and this one mistake shoul not completely break a world renound inspiration, and a national hero.

Michael phelps is a fantastic swimmer who does train his backside off for nearly 4 years at a time. In that time theres no parties, no drinking or socialising, don't you think thats hard for any person at that age. yes what he did is wrong and he should accept whatever punishment he gets but i don't think people realise the amount of time and effort that elite swimmers have to put in. If you read his no limits book it is fantastic in giving you an insite into his life before the olympics in 2008. It shows the dedication that has to be put in. Swimmers are always noted for their party antics so why shouldn't he be allowed to let his hair down, besides it not going to make him any quicker is it really.

after all of this, he still works his ass off for his sport. THAT is dedication. If Phelps is allowed to compete in the london, he'll rack up another 6+ gold medals, no doubt. He'll show the world what's what. Will he have your respect then??


Athletes shouldn't be considered role models anyway, stop putting unfair pressure on them. YOU be a role model and stop expecting others to be. Then, and only then, you can talk about how bad of a role model other people are.

I'm a swimmer and at my school a lot of our swimmers/water polo players will smoke because they say it makes them play better and swim harder. I dont approve of this but IF that is the reason he got into that bad habbit, hes a dumbass. yeah people make mistakes but America was rooting for him and he awareingly did this, which mayor may not ruin his career. how pathetic.

he's a hero that we all look up to, and i feel that by him smoking and drinking, he's saying that it's ok to always make mistake. yes, we are all human and humans make mistakes, but then again, we also learn from it. This wasn't the first time that Phelps was caught. The article had stated that he was busted for drinking and received community service, years before. yes, heroes should be given special treatments but then again, why...when they will only abuse it? same goes for police officers and boss, and etc.

Drinking alcohol is probably more physically harmful than smoking pot. Most of us are guilty of doing one or both. However as Michael Phelps is one of the greatest athletes in the world, in fact a swimmer, it is not so wise to compromise your lungs by inhaling smoke.

I quit drinking alcohol altogether because it can become addictive and I did not like the idea of purposely introducing toxic substances to my body. I never tried or had the desire to smoke pot. You can have more genuine fun and enjoyment without them.

All I'm saying is that it comes down to action and our reactions. We do have to pay for some of our actions. Mike, I love that you are owning your mistakes. My hope is that in the process of owning, you are also learning from them.
Its my experience, that mistakes, can show deeper core issues. I trust that you are going deep and that you are dealing with them.
More important then the things you've done, which are great, and more important then who others see you as, is the underlying truth of who you are in your core.

However, it could also be that Phelps was really drunk that night and just wanted to get a little crossfade on. If that is the case, I would be much more worried about the health, ability, and mental safety of Phelps from drinking so much, rather than smoking chronic.

he smoked pot. everyone has at some point. he made a mistake. he's human. he still is the same guy who won all the medals for us. don't hate on him! he deserves a little partying. lay off:]

get this the man trains HARD, more than you work in week. it was the off season if he wants to smoke some pot big deal its not like he earned our counrty 14 gold medals the highest honor in the sports world. get over it he young and having fun and its not an addiction for him hes passed 1,500 drugs tests thats got to say something

Whenever situations similar to this, people tend to take sides. The bottom line is that he did something illegal, and the proof is in the picture. He admitted to it, as well. Our country, ruled by the people, should be founded on excellent character and morals. He, like many others, should be punished. How can anyone find good in this? He may be human and make mistakes, but this is not acceptable. This will surely set a bad influence to our kids, our posterity. They are the future of this country.

We watched him, we loved him, but my daughter doesn't want the cereal box picture in her room anymore. Good for her! He is a great athlete! I am glad no one is looking at my skeletons. I pray Michael that you never do this again and that you lighten up on partying. No one ever starts something like that and thinks it will destroy their lives or families, but it will and it does. I am sure you have beaten yourself up enough. I know I have for my past transgressions. I do want to thank you though because it gave my children the knowledge that I have been trying to teach them for a long time. No one is above doing wrong or making bad choices and it is so easy when you are trying to impress people. Get back to swimming and training, hold your head high and thanks for admitting you shouldn't have done it! God Bless You!

Yo, i think this is so stupid how everyone is destroying Mike over something stupid like this. I think that this dude does nothing but eat, sleep, swim and do deals with corparations. he probably works harder than almost any individual in the country and we are going to shoot him down because he is moking weed. I have no faith in this country what so ever.

Michael Phelps made the mistake of smoking pot. It being illegal, he should not have done it, and it is very true that is sets a bad example and shattered the thoughts of people who liked him so much for how good he is at swimming. Since it is the law, he should not have. It was stupid.

But just as a family member of our could have done it just the same, we should forgive and forget. Our family makes stupid mistakes like this. An older brother or sister oftenly being one of the main role models of a younger sibling could easily do such things, but those younger siblings will still look up to them and love them. We need to still love Phelps for how greatly he did at representing the U.S. But at the same time, he does need to realize that if he continues, this will him and everyone around him.
